Abstract: Ink compositions for use in capillary type writing instruments containing amide compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is --H, --CH.sub.3, or --NH.sub.2 when R.sub.2 is --(CH.sub.2).sub.2 OH and R.sub.3 is --H or --(CH.sub.2).sub.2 OH, and --NH.sub.2 when R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are --H,R.sub.4 is --H, --CH.sub.3, or --NH.sub.2, andn is 0,1, or 2.These ink compositions, when used in capillary type writing instruments, allow rejuvenation of writing points which have dried out from exposure to the atmosphere.
Abstract: A horological device is provided with an alarm switch in the form of an alarm wheel having a conductive path extending from a topside of the wheel to a bottom side of the wheel. The alarm wheel is adapted to operate in an alarm circuit arranged to generate audible signals at a predetermined time. An alarm setting pinion is engaged with the alarm switch to prevent undesired movement of the alarm wheel in case of mechanical shock.
Abstract: A tampon inserter is disclosed of the type comprising an outer cylindrical insertion tube containing a compressed tampon in its proximal end and an inner plunger or piston axially movable within the outer tube for ejecting the tampon out of the proximal end of the insertion tube into the vagina. The outer insertion tube which is rotatable about the plunger is provided with (a) an outwardly extending annular ring to control the depth of insertion of the inserter and (b) an inwardly directed key or finger which depending upon the degree of rotation of the insertion tube about the plunger will extend into one of a plurality of elongated slots of various lengths positioned in the walls of the inner plunger which (slots) control the length of travel of the plunger and thereby provide a means for varying the depth of insertion of the tampon.
Abstract: A razor handle comprising a grip portion having arms at one end thereof for pivotally mounting thereon a shaving unit of the type in which a blade and guard are permanently fixed together, the shaving unit being free to pivot upon the handle during a shaving operation, the handle having spring structure thereon for biasing the pivotally movable shaving unit toward a central position, and structure permitting release of the shaving unit and engagement with a new shaving unit.
Abstract: This invention relates to materials and methods used in informational, testing, educational, amusement and other paper-based feedback systems embodying invisible images comprising a color-forming reactant material which can be rendered temporarily visible by the application of a coreactant. The systems may also include visible printed images and are suitable for multiple reuse.
Abstract: A shaving implement for raising and holding low-lying hairs in an erect position for cutting by a blade edge and for distributing shaving force which includes resilient hair raising means spring mounted on a flange having a skin contacting surface or guard member adapted to distribute shaving force to substantially prevent stretching of a user's skin. The resilient hair raising means have barbed ends projecting beyond and substantially normal to the skin contacting surface of the flange in close proximity to the blade edge.
Abstract: A mixture of air and steam is provided for facial treatment through a flexible hose at a temperature range controlled by the effective size of air vents. The interior of the apparatus as well as that of a boiler located in the housing is pressurized when a fan is activated. A one-way valve associated with the boiler permits fluid communication to the interior of the boiler only when the pressure or steam in the boiler is not sufficient to block incoming fluid.
Abstract: This invention relates to alkali developable, paper-based systems printed with invisible phenolphthalein inks and made reusable through many development cycles by employing critical concentrations of dye reactants in conjunction with a paper having a defined water soluble acidity-alkalinity.
Abstract: A safety razor comprising a handle portion, a platform portion molded integrally with the handle portion, and a cap portion molded integrally with the platform portion, a hinge portion interconnecting the platform portion and the cap portion, the cap portion being adapted by flexure of the hinge portion to overlie the platform portion, the cap portion being adapted for connection to the platform portion to securely fasten the cap portion to the platform portion.
Abstract: A shaving unit having blade means exposed forwardly of an overlying cap member and rearwardly of a guard member, wherein the blade means and guard member are movable in unison and relative to the cap means, the guard member having fixed thereto a leaf spring to provide a resilient restoring force in response to forces transmitted to the unit during a shaving operation.
Abstract: A new class of water soluble cationic dyes especially useful in the rapid dyeing of hair prepared by the covalent reaction of visibly colored optical chromophores with selected polymeric backbones containing at least one primary, secondary, or tertiary amino group per repeating unit.
Abstract: A scraper assembly comprising a housing having a head portion adapted to receive and retain a blade unit, and a cover member adapted to cover the blade retained by the head portion, the cover member being releasably retained by engagement with the head portion and completely separable therefrom, the cover member being further adapted to cover portions of the housing remote from the head portion, the cover member being releasably retained by engagement with a second portion of the housing and completely separable therefrom, whereby the cover member may be selectively positioned to cover the blade unit and may be removed therefrom and positioned on the housing at an end remote from the blade unit to expose the blade unit for scraping operations, and may be completely removed from the remainder of said assembly.
Abstract: The instant disclosure is concerned with martensitic stainless steel cutting edges such as razor blades which have superior corrosion resistance and which, although containing only between 0.30% to 0.45% carbon have hardnesses which are equal or better than cutting edges made from martensitic stainless steels containing 0.6% or more carbon which are widely sold commercially. Generally the blades are produced by treating them prior to hardening so that they will have a fine carbide microstructure comprising about 200 to about 500 carbides per 100 square microns, hardening them under conditions in which the fine microstructure will be substantially retained, i.e. subsequent to hardening they will still have about 200 to 500 carbides per 100 square microns, and forming the cutting edge.
Abstract: A circuit for providing an audible alarm, capable of having a characteristic sound. The acoustic/alert circuit includes a battery and a self-starting voltage multiplier including a capacitor which provides a higher source of voltage to power an associated binary counter and transducer element as well as providing a source of input frequency to the binary counter. The input frequency signal drives the binary counter with its plurality of fractional frequency outputs. At least two of these fractional frequency outputs are used in combination with logic circuitry to generate a modulated complex signal to a gated oscillator means which includes a sound generating transducer.
