  • Patent number: 8213005
Abstract: The method for discriminating between benign and malignant prostate tumors relates to analyzing samples of blood, urine and tissue by fluorescence spectroscopy in order to detect the presence of naturally occurring molecules in the fluids and tissue that serve as biomarkers indicative of cancer in the human body. The analysis can be carried out based on fluorescence emission spectra, fluorescence excitation spectra and synchronous (emission and excitation) spectra of bio-samples. The detection, diagnosis, and follow-up and also discrimination between malignant and benign prostate tumors may be made by comparison of ratios of fluorescence emissions and/or excitation intensities of tryptophan, tyrosine, elastin, collagen, bile pigments, NADH, flavins and various species of porphyrins.

Abstract: The method for lung cancer detection by optical analysis of body fluids relates to analyzing samples of blood, urine and sputum by fluorescence spectroscopy in order to detect the presence of naturally occurring molecules in the fluids that serve as biomarkers indicative of cancer in the human body. The analysis can be carried out based on fluorescence emission spectra, fluorescence excitation spectra and synchronous (emission and excitation) spectra of bio-samples. The early detection and diagnosis of lung cancer may be made by comparison of ratios of fluorescence emissions and/or excitation intensities of tryptophan, tyrosine, elastin, collagen, bile pigments, NADPH, flavins and various species of porphyrins.

  • Patent number: 8201373
Abstract: The liner for concrete forms is a plastic matrix for simulating the mortar grooves conventionally formed in masonry construction. The liner is placed within a concrete form, and the concrete is poured thereover. The form is removed after the concrete sets, thereby exposing the surface with the liner still remaining therein. The surface of the concrete panel may then be treated as desired to produce a surface finish resembling brick or other masonry construction, e.g., sandblasted or coated with stucco or other material, with the liner remaining in place to protect the simulated mortar grooves. Once the surface of the concrete panel has been treated as desired, the liner is removed to expose the natural concrete surface within the grooves, with this natural concrete surface closely resembling the mortar joints in a masonry wall.

  • Patent number: 8202432
Abstract: The wastewater treatment system includes a tank having first and second partition walls dividing the tank into first, second and third chambers. An inlet port is formed through the first chamber and an outlet port is formed through the third chamber. A first port is formed through the first partition wall for controlling fluid flow from the first chamber to the second chamber, and a second port is formed through the second partition wall for controlling fluid flow from the second chamber to the third chamber. Oils and sludge are removed from the wastewater in the first chamber. Anaerobic bacteria within the second chamber then removes organic material from the water. The water is stored in the third chamber is irradiated by germicidal ultraviolet light before discharge from the third chamber.

  • Patent number: 8196973
Abstract: The device for childproofing a door lock is a device that fits on a standard lockset and prevents a lever or doorknob from turning when the device is engaged. The childproof door lock includes a substantially rectangular base plate and a circular disk that mounts atop the base. A sliding plate mounted on the base has a cylindrical locking post that engages a notch on the circular disk and prevents it from turning. The sliding plate may be spring-biased to hold the locking post in the notch. • Patent number: 8191689
Abstract: The elevator safety rescue system is an electro-hydraulic system particularly suited for use in rack and pinion drive elevators installed with tall towers, mines, smoke stacks, and other structures having relatively large elevations or depths. The system includes a positive displacement hydraulic pump driven by the output shaft of an electric elevator drive motor. An electro-hydraulic valve is electrically powered to maintain an open condition to allow unrestricted hydraulic flow through the pump during normal operation. In the event of an elevator malfunction, electrical power is terminated to the valve, causing the valve to close and thus requiring all hydraulic fluid to pass through a restrictor. The restrictor limits the flow of hydraulic fluid through the hydraulic pump, thus limiting its rotational speed and the rotational speed of the elevator drive motor to which it is attached, thereby allowing the elevator to descend at a safe speed.

  • Patent number: 8195345
Abstract: The method for generating an integrated guidance law for aerodynamic missiles uses a strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm (SPEA)-based approach for generating an integrated fuzzy guidance law, which includes three separate fuzzy controllers. Each of these fuzzy controllers is activated in a unique region of missile interception. The distribution of membership functions and the associated rules are obtained by solving a nonlinear constrained multi-objective optimization problem in which final time, energy consumption, and miss distance are treated as competing objectives. A Tabu search is utilized to build a library of initial feasible solutions for the multi-objective optimization algorithm. Additionally, a hierarchical clustering technique is utilized to provide the decision maker with a representative and manageable Pareto-optimal set without destroying the characteristics of the trade-off front. A fuzzy-based system is employed to extract the best compromise solution over the trade-off curve.

  • Patent number: 8189775
Abstract: The method of performing cipher block chaining using elliptic polynomial cryptography allows for the encryption of messages through elliptic polynomial cryptography and, particularly, with the utilization of cipher block chaining based upon both the elliptic polynomial and its twist, regardless of whether the elliptic polynomial and its twist are isomorphic with respect to one another. The method of performing cipher block chaining is based on the elliptic polynomial discrete logarithm problem. It is well known that an elliptic polynomial discrete logarithm problem is a computationally “difficult” or “hard” problem.

  • Patent number: 8186031
Abstract: The bushing replacement kit includes components for reaming out a bushing passage in a mechanical structure, and for installing a new bushing in the passage. The reamer portion of the kit includes a reamer guide, which is secured precisely and immovably to the seal sleeve of the passage, the reamer having a pilot shaft that fits precisely within the guide. The guide is held in place by a guide retaining plate, which is clamped to the mechanical structure over the guide. When the reaming operation has been completed, the ream is removed and a threaded bushing installation shaft is passed through the guide and bushing passage. A new bushing is placed at the back of the passage, with a bushing installer placed in back of the bushing. A threaded fastener is installed on the installation shaft and tightened to force the new bushing into its passage.

  • Patent number: 8190307
Abstract: The control optimization method for helicopters carrying suspended loads during hover flight utilizes a controller based on time-delayed feedback of the load swing angles. The controller outputs include additional displacements, which are added to the helicopter trajectory in the longitudinal and lateral directions. This simple implementation requires only a small modification to the software of the helicopter position controller. Moreover, the implementation of this controller does not need rates of the swing angles. The parameters of the controllers are optimized using the method of particle swarms by minimizing an index that is a function of the history of the load swing. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the controller in suppressing the swing of the slung load while stabilizing the helicopter.
