  • Patent number: 6814161
Abstract: A stakedown assembly for a horizontal directional drill that multiplies the travel of a hydraulic cylinder so that the drive head travels twice the distance of the hydraulic cylinder travel. A gear pinion is pivotally attached to a top end of the hydraulic cylinder. A first gear rack is fixedly attached to a tower, and a second gear rack is fixedly attached to a drive head. The gear pinion floats between the two gear racks, thus, producing multiplication when the hydraulic cylinder is actuated. This allows the use of a shorter hydraulic cylinder and results in a smaller overall stakedown assembly height.

  • Patent number: 6561120
Abstract: A plastic barricade assembly and a method of constructing it. The assembly includes two leg and panel units pivotally interconnected. Each leg and panel unit comprises first and second leg members and a plurality of panel members. The members are separately blow molded of plastic. The first leg members of each leg and panel unit are identical to each other and, at the same time, different than the second leg members of each leg and panel unit which are, in turn, identical to each other. Each leg and panel unit is assembled by bolting a first and second leg member together with a plurality of panel members. The leg and panel members of each unit are bolted together in interlocking relationship.

  • Patent number: 6505989
Abstract: A ball joint includes a socket that defines an outer surface having multiple, annular, smoothly-curved teeth. A ball is received in the socket, and the socket is received in a recess of a housing. This recess defines complementarily-shaped annular, smoothly-curved teeth. The crests of the teeth are arranged along lines that are angled with respect to the insertion axis such that the teeth of the socket pass over the teeth of the housing without an interference fit therebetween during an early stage of assembly. It is only at the end of assembly that the teeth of the socket mechanically interfere with the teeth of the housing to create the desired snap lock. In one example, the ball joint housing forms a recess that receives a rod. The inner surface of this recess undulates and includes gradually converging surfaces and gradually diverging surfaces with respect to the rod axis.

  • Patent number: 6461321
Abstract: A hemodialysis catheter comprising a dual lumen tube with a bullet nose bolus at its distal end. A venous port is formed in one side of the bolus adjacent the bullet nose of the bolus. An arterial port is formed in the bolus circumferentially displaced 180° around the catheter from the venous port. The bolus contains a venous passage which transitions from a smaller diameter D-shaped cross-section to a larger diameter circular cross-section. The bullet nose is thinner than the tube but is inclined on an angle to the axis of the tube so that a portion of its outer periphery is substantially tangent to a hypothetical cylinder containing the trailing edge of the venous port.

  • Patent number: 6374927
Abstract: A dual purpose bracket assembly for a horizontal directional drill that retains pipes within a cartridge when the cartridge is detached from the drill and locks the cartridge to the drill when it is attached. The bracket assembly includes side plates that are installed within longitudinal support members. A pivot pin is installed through the side plates and the longitudinal support members and allows the bracket assembly to rotate between a pipe retention position and a locked position. A dual purpose removable pin supports the weight of the pipes in the pipe retention position when the cartridge is detached and locks the cartridge to the drill when the cartridge is attached.

  • Patent number: 6332413
Abstract: A seed tube for an agricultural implement having a seed metering mechanism for uniformly dispensing seeds. The seed tube defined an enclosed curved seed pathway extending between opposite ends of the tube. To promote control over the seeds passing through the tube, the tube has a smooth but decreasing cross-sectional configuration between the ingress and egress ends of the tube. The tube generally includes a front wall, a rear wall and a pair of side walls. The front wall is generally separated into an upper and lower portion. An opening in the front wall, which is provided to receive a monitoring device, is associated with the lower front wall portion. In addition, the lower front wall portion is stepped forward relative to the upper front wall portion. The enclosed seed pathway further includes a narrowed front edge extending in an upward direction from the egress end of the tube along some section of the front wall.

  • Patent number: 6325714
Abstract: A rotor assembly for an agricultural combine includes a rotor, a plurality of short thresher elements and a plurality of elongated thresher elements. The short thresher elements and a plurality of elongated thresher elements are arranged on the rotor so that the crop material contacts at least two short thresher elements before contacting an elongated element, thereby breaking up clumps of crop material before the clumps contact an elongated element. The agricultural combine has a rotor having a front portion, a rear portion a plurality of elongated thresher elements. Each elongated thresher element is aligned along a separate longitudinal line which extends from the front portion to the rear portion, to prevent a roll of material from building across multiple elongated thresher elements.

  • Patent number: 6296566
Abstract: An infeed assembly for a rotary combine has an impeller for directing crop materials outwardly and rearwardly. The impeller is arranged on the infeed section of the rotor and includes impeller blades that redirect the incoming mat-like crop materials into a whirling, circulatory motion and also translates the crop materials rearward towards the rotor's threshing section. Each blade has a leading edge that is swept back in two dimensions. Each leading edge is simultaneously swept back circumferentially away from the direction of impeller rotation and axially towards the rotor's threshing section. The pitch of each blade increases for a predetermined distance rearwardly.

  • Patent number: 6257818
Abstract: A tree skidder transport machine and method wherein the machine has a hydraulically operated boom assembly extending rearwardly of a chassis. The boom assembly includes a main boom and a stick boom which cooperate hydraulically to lift the bottom end of a tree, or tree bunch, near the butt, and drag it forwardly over a bogied pair of chassis support wheels. With the further cooperation of a hydraulically actuated heel boom, the tree or tree bunch is then rotated vertically in a counterclockwise direction to lift its top end off the ground and move the tree or tree bunch forwardly a sufficient distance to bring some of the weight of the tree or tree bunch onto the front wheels of the machine.
