  • Patent number: 5504067
Abstract: It has been discovered that it is possible to administer truncated tissue factor, not having the transmembrane region (tTF) in combination with factor VIIa (FVIIa) to treat bleeding disorders such as those resulting from hemophilia or cirrhosis of the liver. Preferably, the tTF is administered to produce up to 10 .mu.g tTF/ml of plasma. The FVIIa is administered to produce levels of between 40 ng FVIIa/ml and 4 .mu.g FVIIa/ml of plasma. The effective dosages of both tTF and FVIIa are significantly and surprisingly less than the administration of either alone to stop bleeding. Examples demonstrate safety and efficacy in normal and hemophilic dogs.

  • Patent number: 5494239
Abstract: An expandable ogive is disclosed which incorporates a plurality of sections (20, 22, 24) which move into an extended position. The ogive is locked in the extended position by mating tapered surfaces on the piston sections of an actuator (44) which are tapered at an angle of less than about 2.degree. relative to the center line axis of the missile or rocket. The mating surfaces lock sufficiently tightly to resist the aerodynamic loadings on the ogive during missile or rocket flight and therefore maintain the proper ogive configuration independent of the gas pressure in the actuator (44) which initially moves the ogive sections into the extended position.

  • Patent number: 5490569
Abstract: A boring apparatus (10) is disclosed which includes a casing (16) mounting a drill bit (42) and a deflection shoe (22). The cutting circle of the drill bit is offset from the centerline axis (18) of the casing (16). At least a portion of the deflection shoe (22) lies outside the cutting circle of the drill bit so that the deflection shoe causes the boring apparatus to deflect as the borehole is drilled. Rotation of the casing 16 a predetermined distance will cause the boring apparatus to change the direction of deflection. A continuous rotation of the casing will permit the boring apparatus to bore straight ahead. The drill stem (32, 68, 74) rotating the drill bit can be mounted concentric with the centerline axis of the casing and offset therefrom, at an angle relative to the centerline axis and can be sufficiently flexible to be curved to accommodate the signal beacon housing.

  • Patent number: 5490081
Abstract: The velocity of a working tool of a hydraulic excavator can be automatically decelerated and stopped just before the working tool would encounter an obstacle. Hazard regions and decelerating regions which correspond upward, downward, forward, and other positions of the hydraulic excavator are designated and a working tool decelerating pattern V.sub.2 where the working tool velocity decreases from 100% to 0% in a decelerating region is stored in a control unit. When a working tool velocity V.sub.1 which corresponds to the amount of operations of working tool levers (1, 2) intersects with the working tool decelerating pattern V.sub.2 in a decelerating region, the working tool moves at the velocity V.sub.2 and stops just before a hazard region. A restoring pattern where the working tool is restored from a just-before-hazard position to a safety region is stored as a working tool accelerating pattern V.sub.4 where the working tool velocity accelerates from a predetermined velocity just before a hazard region.

  • Patent number: 5482402
Abstract: A technique for in situ decontamination of an earth formation. High gas temperatures can be achieved at subsurface formations by supplying a fuel at a subsurface location, such as at the bottom of a wellbore. Pressurized air or gas preheated to a temperature of about 700.degree. F.-1200.degree. F. is supplied to the wellbore to ignite the fuel. The combustion heat produced by the fuel further heats the preheated gas to temperatures in the range of 1200.degree. F.-4500.degree., which heated gases are forced out of the borehole into the contaminated formation. Contaminants are thereby volatilized or oxidized and removed from the formation to the surface.
