    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device and a method of compensating for a luminance point defect of the liquid crystal display device. After a detective luminance point pixel is detected, a laser beam is irradiated from an excimer laser oscillator on a portion of a surface of one of glass substrates of a liquid crystal panel on which an illuminating light is incident, the portion being located on the same irradiation path of the illuminating light with the luminance point pixel. In this way, the portion is laseretched, thereby forming a rough surface in the portion. When such a panel is used in a projection device, the light transmitted through the luminance point pixel is scattered and so reduced. Accordingly, the defective luminance point pixel is inconspicuous to normal pixels around the defective luminance point pixel.

    Abstract: In a solid state imaging device, a horizontal transfer unit has first and second transfer paths which are disposed in parallel and in which the transfer direction of image signals is changed according to the mode of a driving signal applied to the paths. One end of the first transfer paths is connected to one end of the second transfer path through a third transfer path. When a driving signal of a first mode is applied, the first path transfers image signals from the one end to the other end to output normal image signals. When a driving signal of a second mode is applied, the first path transfers image signals from the other end to the one end to transfer the image signals to the second transfer path via the third transfer path, and the second transfer path transfers image signals from the one end to the other end to output mirror image signals.

    Abstract: A digital adaptive transversal filter includes an interface circuit for regulating and digitizing analog input signals, which comprise of multiple spread-spectrum signals, additive thermal noise and additive multiple narrowband interferers, to provide multi-bit digital input signals. A digital finite impulse response filter having a set of variable digital weight coefficients responds to the multi-bit digital input signals to generate digital output signals which contain a reduced amount of narrowband interference. A digital weight generator responds to the digital input and digital output signals for updating the digital weight coefficients, and a reset generator periodically resets the digital weight coefficients to zero initial values.In a preferred embodiment an 8-tap, 8-bit digital adaptive transversal filter operating at 22 MHz was implemented with discrete components and a processing gain of 30 dB was demonstrated.

A shared memory portion includes an encoder for encoding a data byte from the processor in the region into a number of data byte symbols from which the data byte can be reconstructed.     Abstract: In a liquid crystal display device having pixels arranged in a matrix form, light is allowed to pass or blocked depending upon whether or not a voltage is applied to electrodes each corresponding to the pixels, and the display operation is conducted by controlling the transmission/nontransmission of light. When a conductor or switching element connected to an electrode is broken, it is not possible to apply such a voltage to the respective electrode. Such a pixel is always at the light transmission display state, with the result that the pixel becomes a bright spot, thereby degrading the display quality. Therefore, a blocking piece for blocking light is disposed over the pixel which becomes a bright spot. This prevents the bright spot from appearing, thereby improving the display quality.

    Abstract: A process for producing charged uniformly sized metal droplets in which a quantity of metal is placed in a container and liquified, the container having a plurality of orifices to permit passage of the liquified metal therethrough. The liquified metal is vibrated in the container. The vibrating liquified metal is forced through the orifices, the vibration causing the liquified metal to form uniformly sized metal droplets. A charge is placed on the liquified metal either when it is in the container or after the liquified metal exits the container, the charging thereof causing the droplets to maintain their uniform size. The uniformly sized droplets can be used to coat a substrate with the liquified metal.

    Abstract: An FM carrier is FM-modulated with a video signal for recordal on a magnetic medium. The phase of the FM carrier corresponding to a tip portion of a horizontal synchronizing pulse in the video signal is reset to, and the phase is fixed at, a reference phase at a leading edge of the horizontal synchronizing pulse and is fixed during every period of the horizontal synchronizing pulse width. In reproducing the video signal, the FM carrier, with its frequency doubled, is demodulated by a pulse count type FM demodulator having a frequency-doubling function. The FM carrier is always maintained in phase with the horizontal synchronizing pulse in the video signal, so that beat stripes or moire do not appear on the reproduced picture, and interference due to the leakage appears as reproduced picture distortion in correlation with the video signal. A reference burst signal necessary to a time base correction is extracted from the reproduced FM carrier.
