Abstract: Enhancement of the method and oral compositions for inhibiting adherence of Streptococcus pyogenes to pharyngeal and oral mucosa cells by treating these areas with a glycoconjugate comprising an oligosaccharide linked to a carrier. The oligosaccharide should have at least one fucose moiety or a galatose moiety which is free of digalactose and N-acetylneuraminyl lactose. The carrier may include albumins, starch or synthetic polymers.

Abstract: A dentifrice for desensitizing sensitive teeth wherein a potassium salt of a synthetic anionic polymer is present to close off subsequent penetration of pain to dental pulp.

Abstract: An antiplaque oral composition, such as a toothpaste, gel dentifrice, tooth powder, mouthrinse or mouthwash, tooth hardener, anticalculus composition, gum or lozenge, comprises triclosan as an antiplaque component, the antiplaque action of which is unexpectedly and beneficially increased by the presence in the oral composition of a phenolic flavoring agent, such as eucalpytol, thymol, methyl salicylate, menthol, phenol, halogenated derivatives thereof, and mixtures thereof. Preferred such compositions are toothpastes, gel dentifrices and mouthrinses or mouthwashes. Also within the invention are processes of repeatedly applying such antiplaque oral compositions to the teeth to obtain the antiplaque benefits mentioned.

Abstract: A visually clear gel dentifrice comprising a polishing agent having a refractive index of about 1.41 to 1.47, a water-swellable synthetic anionic polycarboxylate polymer and a liquid vehicle of about 25-30% by weight water and 30-45% by weight of neat humectant wherein at least about 30% by weight of said dentifrice is neat sorbitol.

Abstract: An oral composition dentifrice comprising an orally acceptable vehicle, about 5-30% by weight of a siliceous polishing agent, a substantially water-insoluble noncationic antibacterial antiplaque agent, such as 2,4,4'-trichloro-2'-hydroxydiphenyl ether (triclosan), and an antibacterial-enhancing agent which enhances the delivery of said antibacterial agent to, and retention thereof on, oral surfaces, wherein said antiplaque agent is substantially completely dissolved in saliva present during tooth and gum cleaning in a solubilizing agent therefor. The solubilizing agent may be a humectant polyol such as propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol and hexylene glycol; a cellosolve such as methyl cellosolve and ethyl cellosolve; a vegetable oil or wax containing at least about 12 carbon atoms in a straight chain such as olive oil, castor oil and petrolatum; or an ester such as ethyl acetate, amyl acetate, glyceryl tristearate and benzyl benzoate.

Abstract: An oral composition, such as a toothpaste, includes an anti-tartar proportion of a polyphosphate anti-tartar agent (preferably with synthetic anionic polymeric polycarboxylate or equivalent, and fluoride) and a desensitizing proportion of a tooth pain inhibiting potassium salt which passes through exposed dentin tubules to tooth nerves or neurons, which salt can be potassium nitrate, potassium citrate or potassium oxalate, so that it helps to prevent tartar from forming on the teeth and also lessens any pain experienced by persons contacting their sensitive teeth with the oral composition. Preferably the oral composition is a desensitizing anti-tartar toothpaste or gel which, when the teeth are brushed with it, aids in removal of at least some tartar and prevents its reappearance, and at the same time diminishes any tooth pain that the brusher would otherwise experience due to such brushing.
