  • Patent number: 4938605
Abstract: An apparatus for the mixing and continuous extrusion of a plastic mass having a first stage in which an intermittently operating mixer receives the starting materials batchwise and a second stage having a screw extruder which is supplied at periodic intervals, with material from the intermittent mixer. In order to provide a simple, inexpensive apparatus for two-stage mixing and extruding in which the full output of the first stage can be used and, independently of the state of the intermediate product, a continuous feed of material into the screw extruder of the second stage is effected. The second stage has mixing and kneading blades continuously rotating within a trough and an extrusion screw which extends along the bottom of the trough into an extrusion cylinder. A continuous drive motor for the extrusion screw is controlled so that the trough is always filled at least to 25% of its volume.

  • Patent number: 4927591
Abstract: A hollow body (e.g. a container) as well as a method and an apparatus for its manufacture in which an axially directed wall of the body primarily is made of oriented and/or crystallized plastics material. A tubular preform (10d) is fixed in a circumferential region (13d) in the vicinity of the mouth edge (14d) of the preform between mechanical forming devices (30,40), after which the devices, during continued clamping of the circumferential region, are displaced in the axial direction of the preform relative to a mandrel (50). Thus, the mandrel is displaced into the preform during simultaneous expansion thereof and the material is oriented and/or crystallized. In a preferred embodiment there is made a certain compensation of the stretching forces, which arise in the material when inserting the mandrel, by applying a force to the bottom of the preform by a bottom support (75).

  • Patent number: 4916757
Abstract: A glove is formed of plastic films which are sealed together along lateral edges between which is formed a peripheral seal in the form of a contour providing thumb, forefinger and further receptacles. The further receptacle is intended to accommodate three fingers. In this arrangement, interior seals are provided which are in part spaced from the lateral edges and parallel thereto but which merge with the respective lateral edges to form lateral receptacles between which is an opening for the penetration of the hand of the user. The films are processed by bringing two films together and forming the contour seal thereon while forming at the lateral edges a rectilinear seal having on opposite sides thereof the adjacent interior seals of two successive gloves. The successive gloves are made separable by the provision of a line of perforations which are formed in correspondence with the lateral seals.

  • Patent number: 4916632
Abstract: A vibration control apparatus detects a physical value influencing characteristics of a suspension supporting a vibrating body and a state value representing movement of the suspension, calculates an optimal target control force in consideration of an external force or disturbance acting on the suspension on the basis of the physical and state values as outputs from a state detecting system, calculates the detection control force corresponding to the detected physical value, and continuously variably controls the suspension characteristics so as to generate a control force corresponding to the difference between the target and detection control forces in consideration of the external force or disturbance acting on the suspension, whereby vibrations are prevented by equivalently applying the target control force on the suspension.

  • Patent number: 4913226
Abstract: A heat exchanger having an inlet duct for admission of a first fluid to be heated, an outlet duct for discharge of the first fluid after heating thereof, the ducts being arranged in substantially parallel relation, and an assembly of a plurality of heat exchanger tubes connected to the inlet and outlet ducts for receiving the first fluid from the inlet duct to convey the first fluid through the tubes for discharge into the outlet duct. The heat exchanger tubes are of U-shape each including a curved bend region in which reversal of direction of flow of the first fluid is effected. The assembly of heat exchanger tubes extends laterally of the ducts into the path of travel of a second fluid which flows around the tubes in a passage area to effect heat exchange with the first fluid in the tubes.

  • Patent number: 4905642
Abstract: A siamese-type cylinder block blank which is composed so that upon the pouring a molten metal under a pressure, a sleeve of cast iron is cast in each cylinder barrel of a siamese-type cylinder barrel made of an aluminum alloy and consisting of a plurality of cylinder barrels connected in series. The cylinder block blank is characterized in that each sleeve cast presents a substantially oval configuration in section with the lengthwise axis parallel to the direction of cylinder barrels arranged, as a result of the reception of the solidification shrinkage force of each cylinder barrel.

  • Patent number: 4907154
Abstract: In a vibration control apparatus, a physical value influencing characteristics of a suspension for supporting a vibrating body and a state value representing movement of the suspension are detected. A frequency distribution of these values with respect to levels is calculated every predetermined period of time. A target control force is calculated on the basis of the frequency distribution in consideration of a continuous change in external state. An actual control force (detection control force) is calculated by the detected physical value. The suspension characteristics are continuously, variably controlled so as to equivalently generate a control force corresponding to a difference between the target and detection control forces. As a result, the target control force is equivalently applied to the suspension, thereby damping the vibrations.

  • Patent number: 4902536
Abstract: A method for the production of a protective layer on a structural part against thermal, chemical and/or mechanical stresses, particularly structural parts of complex shape such as turbine blades in which powder of a starting material for the layer is suspended in a suspension liquid and the suspension is held at a temperature just above the freezing point of the suspension. The structural part to be coated is maintained at a temperature below the freezing point of the dispersing liquid and is dipped into the suspension so that a layer of the powder present in the suspension freezes firmly on the part. The thickness of the layer is dependent on the temperature of the structural part and the length of time during which the structural part remains immersed on the suspension. The structural part now coated with the powder layer is subjected to freeze drying and is thereafter heated to a temperature above the freezing point of the suspension.

  • Patent number: 4900156
Abstract: Apparatus for mixing material in a twin screw extruder by longitudinally advancing material by the interengaging threads of two screws in the housing of a twin screw extruder such that a plurality of separate streams of material are advanced by the threads of the screws, combining the separate streams of material in a thread-free zone of the screws in which the passage area for the streams of material undergoes uniform reduction and lateral displacement around one of the screws, and thereafter dividing the combined stream back into separate streams downstream of the thread-free zone. In the thread-free zone, a baffle element is mounted on the shaft of one of the screws, the baffle element being of conical shape and increasing uniformly in diameter in the direction of advance of the product.

  • Patent number: 4897996
Abstract: In a system for varying the output flow from a constant rate feed pump with low losses by chopping the said output flow into one flow fraction supplied to the load as a power flow and into another flow fraction returned as a pressureless flow, the loads are aperiodically supplied with proportionated amounts of fluid by chopping, the respective amounts of fluid and the chop frequency being inherently controlled in way dependent on the instantaneous requirement of the load in the system. The system for performing the method has a housing with a number of pressure spaces arranged to be acted upon by different flows and with one or more pressureless spaces, a piston with a piston rod arranged in a piston space, a compression spring preferably arranged in a hole in said piston rod and adapted to act against the sum of the hydraulic forces acting on the piston and spool. The method is applicable to complex hydraulic systems and more especially to hydrostatic drives.
