  • Patent number: 6761275
Abstract: A liner disc for a bottle cap for sealingly closing a bottle includes an annular rim portion and a downwardly domed portion depending from the annular rim portion. The domed portion is convex toward the contents of the bottle. A seal layer is provided on the domed portion. Internal pressure of the contents of the bottle acts in a direction tending to flatten the domed portion which in turn expands an annular side wall of the domed portion outwardly to press the seal layer against the inside surface of the bottle to assist in effecting a seal between the bottle and the cap.

  • Patent number: 6527137
Abstract: A drinking mug with integral straw includes a cup-like vessel portion, and a straw portion having an internal passage joined in fluid communication with an interior volume of the vessel portion. The straw portion is preferably positioned in spaced apart relationship to the vessel portion, whereby the straw portion can be easily gripped for holding the mug during use. Notably, the straw portion includes a plurality of subdivisions in the internal passage arranged in series flow relationship, with each of the subdivisions including a pair of sections through which liquid can flow. Thus, as liquid is drawn through the straw portion from the vessel portion, the liquid flow is repeatedly subdivided and joined as liquid flows through the series of subdivisions. By formation of the present drinking mug from transparent plastic material, the flow of liquid from the vessel portion through the straw portion is readily visually apparent, thus enhancing enjoyable use of the article.

  • Patent number: 6415913
Abstract: A base excited vibratory trough conveyor includes a trough mounted on leaf springs to a base which is excited by a linear vibratory drive. The vibratory drive produces a linear force which is oriented to be perpendicular to the springs, and the linear force is adjusted to equal the reaction force of the springs on the base during the desired stroke. Such balancing results in no stroke or movement of the base. A more lightweight base can thus be used without requiring that the base center of gravity be aligned along the center of gravity of the conveyor and the trough, or that the base be excessively heavy.

  • Patent number: 6405549
Abstract: A portable heating and cooling unit intended to be used within a room or area of a building includes a cabinet supported on a plurality of wheels and a refrigeration circuit at least partially carried within said cabinet. The refrigeration circuit includes a first coil, a compressor, a second coil and a refrigerant reversing valve. In a cooling mode of operation, the first coil acts as an evaporator coil and room air is circulated by a first fan across the evaporator coil and delivered into the room. A second fan circulates room air through the second coil acting as a condenser coil and discharges the thus warmed air away from the room area to be cooled. In a heating mode of operation, the refrigerant reversing valve is activated to change the flow direction of the refrigerant through the circuit such that the first coil now acts as a condenser and The second coil now acts as the evaporator.

  • Patent number: 6398077
Abstract: A dispensing system is provided for two, constituent, fluent materials which are stored separately and then combined in a dispensing process to form a combination product. The dispensing system includes a container having at least two interior storage chambers, and each chamber has a separate discharge opening. Associated with each discharge opening is a separate, flexible valve. Each valve has an initially closed dispensing orifice which opens in response to a differential between the pressure acting against the side of the closed valve facing toward the associated discharge opening and the pressure acting against the side of the closed valve facing away from the associated discharge opening. In a preferred embodiment, a top is provided downstream of the valve. The top is movable between (1) a close position to occlude a dispensing flow path downstream of the valves, and (2) an open position which permits flow to be discharged from the system.

  • Patent number: 6393130
Abstract: A compliant hearing aid has a housing formed with an exterior peripheral layer of a deformable material. Electronic components located within the deformable layer can be encapsulated, at least in part, with a second deformable material. The second material also fills voids in the interior of the deformable peripheral layer. The second material can be cured within the deformable layer. Alternately, the second material can be cured apart from the deformable layer. The layer can then be attached to the second material.

  • Patent number: 6381817
Abstract: A composite nonwoven fabric is formed by providing a synthetic fiber web comprising staple length polymeric fibers, and a cellulosic fiber web, preferably comprising wood pulp fibers. Prior to integration of the webs, the synthetic fiber web is subjected to hydroentangling to form a partially entangled web, with the cellulosic fiber web thereafter juxtaposed with the partially entangled web for hydroentanglement and integration of the webs. Pre-entanglement of the synthetic fiber web desirably acts to minimize the energy input required for integration of the cellulosic fiber and synthetic fiber webs, and also desirably acts to abate loss of the cellulosic fibers during hydroentanglement and integration of the webs.

  • Patent number: 6382445
Abstract: A closure shell has an end wall and a sidewall. The sidewall has an inside thread for engagement to a thread formation of a container neck. The closure shell has a sealing flap extending radially from the sidewall and an annular vertical member extending from the end wall. The vertical member has an inside diameter greater than the diameter of a seal finish of the container neck. The sealing flap is sized and arranged to be pressed axially by the seal finish to the end wall, and radially pressed by the seal finish to the vertical member. A resilient element is formed between the vertical member and the sidewall to radially press the vertical member against the sealing flap to effect a tight radial seal.

  • Patent number: 6380846
Abstract: A pull station for an alarm includes a housing with a handle mounted for sliding movement within the housing. The housing includes a window for a user to access the handle for forcibly sliding the handle in a vertical direction. A latch is rotatably mounted to the handle and spring biased to rotate to a locked position upon sliding movement of the handle. The latch has a portion which moves to bear against a stationary element of the housing to establish the locked position. The housing can be opened to reset the handle without changing the state of the alarm. Closing of the housing automatically resets the alarm. An attached terminal block includes a plurality of U-shaped terminal elements each having a screw terminal, a solder lug and a press pin.
