  • Patent number: 4753305
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for supporting a cutting member in a drag bit wherein the cutting member includes a cylindrical stud or body having an angularly disposed cylindrical portion projecting therefrom with a cutting wafer bonded to the face of the cylindrical portion. A hole is formed in the bit body with an angular recess intersecting the hole. The recess conforms generally to the configuration of the cylindrical portion so that in the preferred form of the invention, the bit body engages the cylindrical portion to prevent rotation of the cutter in the bit body. Also, the engagement between the bit body and the cylindrical portion occurs in such a matter as to avoid a contact between the bit body and the wafer thus avoiding imposing stresses on the cutting wafer. The engagement aids in preventing fluid erosion and in orienting the cutting member in the bit body during assembly.

  • Patent number: 4592681
Abstract: The automatic feed drill includes a spindle mounted therein for rotating in reciprocating movement. The spindle is rotated by spindle rotation gear that is engaged with the main drive gear which is ultimately driven by an air motor or the like. The feed and retraction movement (reciprocation) is caused by a spindle feed gear that is threaded onto the spindle. The spindle feed gear is engaged with a feed gear which, during feed movement, is driven by the main drive gear, and during retraction movement, is shifted into a position wherein the feed gear is prevented from rotating. The spindle also carries a collar or other abutment that engages a shift lever at the end of the feed movement. The shift lever is moved by the collar, and, due to its interconnection with the feed gear, moves the feed gear out of engagement with the main drive gear and into the position wherein it is prevented from rotating. The apparatus also includes a yieldable stop device that holds the feed gear stopped during retraction movement.

The spindle is rotated by a spindle rotation gear that is engaged with the main drive gear which is ultimately driven by an air motor or the like. The feed and retraction movement (reciprocation) is caused by a spindle feed gear that is threaded onto the spindle. The spindle feed gear is engaged with a feed gear which, during normal feed movement, is driven by the main drive gear, and during retraction and rapid feed movement, is shifted into a position wherein the feed gear is prevented from rotating. During rapid feed the motor direction is reversed by a reversing valve. The apparatus also includes a yieldable stop device that holds the feed gear stopped during retraction and rapid feed movement.

  • Patent number: 4575987
Abstract: The container closure and sealing apparatus includes opposed and oppositely rotating screw feeders for moving the containers from the feed conveyor to tacking apparatus which exerts sufficient force on a tape of pre-punched covers to dislodge a cover from the tape and temporarily secure the cover to the container. An infeed indexing apparatus works in timed coordination with the tacking apparatus and with the heat sealer to remove the containers from the screws and deposit the containers onto the heat sealer where localized heat is applied to the container and cover to perform the permanent sealing and securing of the cover to the container. The heat sealer transports the containers to an indexing ejector which works in timed relationship therewith to move the containers from the heat sealing assembly to a discharge conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4552717
Abstract: The process for making thin wall containers from plastic resins described herein includes the step of heating the resin, placing the resin between a product mold and a preform mold, and closing the molds thereon. It also includes the steps of applying a differential pressure across the resin to force the resin into the preform mold and applying pressure on a movable piston in the preform mold that forces the resin relatively into the product mold. As pressure is applied internally of the product being formed, the container is shaped in the desired configuration and during such formation, is biaxially oriented to improve the strength characteristics of the container.
