Abstract: A method of displaying a background sky in a navigation system, the method including: storing and maintaining map data and background sky image data with respect to one or more directions of the map data in a database; detecting a driving direction angle of a vehicle; computing a position of a background sky image corresponding to the detected driving direction angle; extracting background sky image data corresponding to the computed position of the background sky image from the database; and displaying the extracted background sky image data as a background sky with respect to the map data.
Abstract: The subject invention provides a modular six-degrees-of-freedom spatial mechanism for spinal disc prosthesis, with three rotational and three translational degrees-of-freedom. The prosthesis anchors to the superior and inferior vertebrae of an FSU and maintains mechanical linkage between those vertebrae for all normal motions and positions of the FSU. The prosthetic disc uses a novel, multi-curvate “ball-and-socket” joint with joint limits on all three rotational axes integrated into the design. A planar joint can further provide two, orthogonal linear degrees of freedom. Resilient spring elements, self-adjusting, in position and orientation, in conjunction with a double-layered, fiber and ring reinforced boot and toroidal belt, and a unique hydraulic damping system using dual segmented-walls can accommodate dynamic and static forces and sudden shocks on the FSU.
Abstract: The subject invention pertains to materials and methods for treating oncological disorders. The subject invention also pertains to materials and methods for preventing or reducing the development by cancer cells of resistance to an anticancer therapy, such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and/or immunotherapy. In one embodiment, a patient is treated with an agent that inhibits cholesterol synthesis or that prevents or reduces the increase in cholesterol synthesis observed in therapy-resistant cancer cells. In another embodiment, a patient is treated with an agent that increases the expression, activity, or amount of a Bim protein in a cell. In another embodiment, a patient is treated with an agent to inhibit or reduce cancer cell adhesion to extracellular matrices or stromal cells. In another embodiment, a patient is treated with an agent to inhibit expression of a gene of function of a protein of the FANC/BRCA pathway.

Abstract: Provided are an image sensor and a method for manufacturing the same. According to an embodiment, a semiconductor substrate is provided comprising a readout circuit. An interconnection electrically connected to the readout circuit and an interlayer dielectric are disposed over the semiconductor substrate. An image sensing unit is disposed over the interlayer dielectric and comprises a first doping layer and a second doping layer stacked therein. A first via hole is formed, exposing the interconnection through the image sensing unit. A fourth metal contact is formed in the first via hole to electrically connect the interconnection and the first doping layer. A fifth metal contact is formed over the fourth metal contact, the fifth metal contact being electrically insulated from the fourth metal contact and electrically connected to the second doping layer.
Abstract: A high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) capable of performing as a CO2 or O2 sensor is disclosed, hi one implementation, a polymer solar cell can be connected to the HEMT for use in an infrared detection system. In a second implementation, a selective recognition layer can be provided on a gate region of the HEMT. For carbon dioxide sensing, the selective recognition layer can be, in one example, PEI/starch. For oxygen sensing, the selective recognition layer can be, in one example, indium zinc oxide (IZO). In one application, the HEMTs can be used for the detection of carbon dioxide and oxygen in exhaled breath or blood.

Abstract: Provided are an image sensor and a method for manufacturing the same. The image sensor comprises a readout circuitry, an interconnection, an image sensing device, a first conductive-type ion implantation layer, and a via plug. The readout circuitry is formed in a first substrate. The interconnection is formed over the first substrate. The interconnection is electrically connected to the readout circuitry. Then image sensing device is formed over the interconnection. The image sensing device comprises a first conductive-type conductive layer and a second conductive-type conductive layer. The first conductive-type ion implantation layer is formed in a portion of the second conductive-type conductive layer of the image sensing device. The via plug penetrates through the first conductive-type ion implantation layer and the first conductive-type conductive layer to electrically connect the first conductive-type conductive layer to the interconnection.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a nitride semiconductor light emitting device including: a substrate having a predetermined pattern formed on a surface thereof by an etch; a protruded portion disposed on a non-etched region of the substrate, and having a first buffer layer and a first nitride semiconductor layer stacked thereon; a second buffer layer formed on the etched region of the substrate; a second nitride semiconductor layer formed on the second buffer layer and the protruded portion; a third nitride semiconductor layer formed on the second nitride semiconductor layer; an active layer formed on the third nitride semiconductor layer to emit light; and a fourth nitride semiconductor layer formed on the active layer. According to the present invention, the optical extraction efficiency of the nitride semiconductor light emitting device can be enhanced.
Abstract: Disclosed are a dual bit type NROM flash memory device and a method for manufacturing the same using a self-aligned scheme. The flash memory device includes a plurality of bit lines buried in a substrate in one direction while being spaced apart from each other at a regular interval; floating gates aligned at both sides of each of the bit lines on the substrate; and a plurality of word lines spaced apart from each other at a regular interval while crossing the bit lines. In the flash memory device of an embodiment, polysilicon is used for a trapping layer, so the programming and erasing operations can be performed at a higher speed, a threshold voltage (Vt) window is widened, and retention characteristics are improved.
Abstract: Common allergenic foods are made hypoallergenic with super critical fluid or critical liquid gas such as super critical carbon dioxide or liquid nitrogen. The treatment of foods with liquid nitrogen or super critical carbon dioxide also enhances the functionality of fat, so that the total fat in the food can be reduced while retaining the good taste of the food. Compositions and methods for oral delivery of a medicament or vitamin are also provided.
Abstract: A vertical field effect transistor (FET) comprises a gate electrode and a first electrode layer having a dielectric layer interposed between these electrodes and a semiconducting active layer electrically coupled to the first electrode. The active layer and the dielectric layer sandwich at least a portion of the first electrode where at least one portion of the active layer is unshielded by the first electrode such that the unshielded portion is in direct physical contact with the dielectric layer. A second electrode layer is electrically coupled to the active layer where the second electrode is disposed on at least a portion of the unshielded portion of the active layer such that the second electrode can form electrostatic fields with the gate electrode upon biasing in unscreened regions near the first electrode.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for autonomously mixing multiple devices capable of storing and playing audio signals is provided. Multiple devices can be mixed into one standard stereo signal that can then be played on any sort of powered speakers or amplifier. The apparatus is capable of receiving multiple audio inputs and can combine multiple iPods®, iPhones®, MP3 devices, or other devices capable of storing and playing audio signals, such that more than one device can be played at one time. No human intervention is required to control the device when the device is in autonomous mode. The autonomous mode can include random song playback using multiple devices.

Abstract: A single use reminder device (100) has a tamperproof housing which contains a counter circuit and a power supply. The device includes a status indicator (106) for indicating when a date or time period has elapsed. A traffic light LED system is operated, whereby a red signal is shown by the status indicator (106) if the date or time has elapsed, and whereby an amber signal is shown if the elapse date or time is imminent. A similar device comprises a laminated card structure having a portion, which can be pressed to provide status information via an LCD.

Abstract: A semiconductor device having a common source structure and method of manufacturing the same are provided. In one embodiment, the method includes: forming a plurality of gate lines on a semiconductor substrate, each constituted by a floating gate, a dielectric layer, and a control gate having a line form; forming a first dielectric layer on the semiconductor substrate including the gate line; forming a trench having the line form in the first dielectric layer, wherein the trench exposes the semiconductor substrate between the gate lines; and forming a common source in the trench. According to an embodiment, the common source is implemented as a poly line in the trench. Therefore, etching the substrate to provide a trench for a common source can be excluded. Accordingly, it is possible to inhibit the common source from being opened due to a remaining material in a trench, and reduce damage to the semiconductor substrate.
