  • Patent number: 7846427
Abstract: Stabilized liquid pharmaceutical composition comprising an interferon (IFN) or an isoform, mutein, fused protein, functional derivative, active fraction or salt thereof, wherein said formulation is a solution that comprises a buffer, a cyclodextrin, an isotonicity agent and an anti-oxidant are described here. Preferably the interferon is interferon beta-1a and the cyclodextrin is HPBCD. These formulations are stable at room temperature, thus bringing the advantage of lower costs for formulation storage and increased safety for the patient with respect to possible “errors” during handling. As a matter of fact, having such formulations stable at room temperature reduces the risk of formation of degradation products potentially responsible for adverse events (e.g. immunogenicity).

  • Patent number: 7846874
Abstract: The invention relates to the direct selection of metabolic pathways having a determined function in the transformation of a substrate {Ai} into a target product {B}, which is of interest in the industrial, pharmaceutical or agri-food sectors. More specifically, the invention relates to the detection, within metagenomic libraries, of novel biosynthesis pathways involved in a biochemical reaction having a known product {B}. The selection and characterization of said novel metabolic pathways enables {B} to be produced enzymatically. The invention provides an alternative to the chemical synthesis of the molecule in question {B}. Moreover, and above all, the invention can be used specifically to target and exploit the only metabolic pathways enabling the transformation of {Ai} into {B}, while eliminating the associated metabolic pathways that can catabolise the target product {B}.

  • Patent number: 7846104
Abstract: A method for monitoring an individual's physiological condition and detecting abnormalities therein, comprising concurrently receiving an electrocardiograph signal and a ballistocardiograph signal. The electrocardiograph and ballistocardiograph signals are conditioned to minimize background extraneous noise after which, each signal is concurrently processed and analyzed to detect repeating cyclical patterns and further characterized to identify individual components of the repeating cycles. At least one individual component in one signal is selected as a reference marker for a selected component in the other signal. The two signals are then synchronized, outputs produced therefrom and stored in a database.

  • Patent number: 7848896
Abstract: A non-contact detection technique of measuring both the frequency and the amplitude of periodic movement using a property of nonlinear phase modulation is provided. In one embodiment, the technique can utilize a 22-40 GHz radar sensor. Embodiments do not require calibration of signal amplitude for accurate measurement of movement amplitude. In addition, self-verification is possible. Furthermore, embodiments can provide measurements of frequency and amplitude using a very simple architecture. The method can be used to detect movements with amplitudes larger than 0.335 of the carrier wavelength for a fixed carrier frequency system and 0.214 of the minimum carrier wavelength for a frequency tunable system.

  • Patent number: 7846900
Abstract: The present invention includes a method of utilizing four peptide hormones to inhibit the growth of cancer(s). A dramatic decrease in the number of human pancreatic adenocarcinoma cells (i.e., the type of cancer with the highest mortality, with patients only surviving four months) was observed responsive to treatment. The application of the invention would be to utilize one or more of these peptide hormones alone and/or in combination to treat cancer. The ability of these peptide hormones to decrease the number of adenocarcinoma cells has implications for adenocarcinomas at other sites in the body with the majority of cancers of the breast, colon and prostate also being adenocarcinomas. Adenocarcinomas also occur in the lung and other tissues. Treatment of a wide variety of cancers in addition to adenocarcinomas is anticipated by the present invention.
