  • Patent number: 3941393
Abstract: The spring installed on the sealing element of a seal is positively retained during shipping, handling and installation by covering the spring and at least adjacent portions of the sealing element with a film of wax. In the preferred embodiment of a lip type seal including a metal casing and an elastomeric sealing element having a garter spring installed thereon, the entire head section and spring of the seal are covered with a film of wax by immersing the head section in a melted wax-like substance. The wax film positively retains the spring and also provides lubrication to the sealing lip during initial installation and start up.

  • Patent number: 3938849
Abstract: An anti-skid control system for use with vehicle brakes which system comprises a control device which actuates a valve to interrupt the passage of brake pressure to a brake chamber in a cyclic manner should the wheel associated with the brake chamber tend to lock or skid. A pump generates a control signal according to the rotational speed of the wheel and the device compares this signal with a signal derived from the brake pressure. The control device operates in conjunction with a number of further valve devices to initiate the aformentioned cyclic interruption of brake pressure to the brake chamber should the control signal fall below a pre-set threshold level and this control sequence repeats itself so the brakes are successively applied and released until the wheel ceases to skid so that the control signal again rises above the threshold level.

  • Patent number: 3936964
Abstract: Microfilm is converted into microfiche by feeding the film through a cutter, cutting the film into one or more frames, and then mounting the frame(s) upon a transparent microfiche base. The microfilm has a pair of adhesive strips along the top and bottom edge of its bottom surface for attaching the microfilm to the base. The microfiche base is mounted on a fiche deck by means of registration pins; lights are provided below the fiche deck for informing the operator where to place the frames on the base; and a margin grid having guide bars overlies the base to aid the operator in mounting the frames in precise alignment on the base. The film cutter removes a slice from the cut frames to aid the operator to mount the frames. The microfiche is updated by mounting all "updatable" frames in the same row and pre-cut from each adjacent frame. A solenoid and its push pin are positioned beneath each updatable frame and a clearance opening for each push pin is located in the microfiche base.
