Abstract: A device for the selection of address words each having n bit locations and serving for addressing m different receiving locations of a digital communication module, in at least one of the receiving locations, including a digital acceptance module through which address words can be selected. The device has an address word segmenting module through which each address word received by the receiving location can be subdivided into s address word segments with b segment bit locations each, wherein b=n/s and n is an integral multiple of s. The device further has z digital segment filters whose inputs can each be fed with an address word segment, with each segment filter having the function of examining one address word segment each with respect to conformity with a predetermined segment bit pattern, and a filter output signal being available at the output of the respective segment filter, which in accordance with the examination result is either a conformity signal or a non-conformity signal.
Abstract: A nozzle for producing an ultrahigh-pressure fluid fan jet is shown and described. In a preferred embodiment, the nozzle has an inner surface defined by a conical bore extending from a first end to a second end, thereby creating an entrance orifice and an exit orifice in the first and second ends, respectively. A wedge-shaped notch extends inward from the second end towards the first end to a sufficient depth such that the shape of the exit orifice is defined by the intersection of the conical bore and the wedge-shaped notch. As pressurized fluid passes through the nozzle and out the exit orifice, the shape of the exit orifice causes the pressurized fluid to exit in the form of a fan jet having a substantially oval cross-section. This fan jet may be swept across a surface to be cleaned thereby selectively removing a layer of material from an underlying surface evenly and completely, without damaging the underlying surface. The fan jet may also be used to cut a fibrous or hard material.

Abstract: The row decoder includes a predecoding stage supplied with row addresses and generating predecoding signals; and a final decoding stage, which, on the basis of the predecoding signals, drives the individual rows in the array. The predecoding stage includes a number of predecoding circuits presenting two parallel signal paths: a low-voltage path used in read mode, and a high-voltage path used in programming mode. A CMOS switch separates the two paths, is driven by high voltage via a voltage shifter in programming mode, and, being formed at predecoding level, involves no integration problems.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a radio receiver, particularly to a receiver for use in single-frequency applications, such as GPS, and to a frequency generator, which may be used in such a radio receiver, or elsewhere. The frequency generator comprises a tuned circuit connected between the emitter of the transistor and ground, such that a voltage signal at the basic frequency appears on the emitter terminal of the transistor. This arrangement has the advantage that the two frequencies appear on separate ports, and provides a radio receiver including radio receiver circuitry for connection to digital signal processing circuitry, reducing the complexity of the overall circuit. Additionally, there is a radio receiver wherein separate first and second local oscillator signals are generated from the terminal of s single transistor, avoiding the need for cascade multiplication stages, again reducing the size and complexity of the overall circuit.

Abstract: A computer system has a system memory, cache memory, system controller that process memory transactions. The system controller transmits a memory request to the system memory without waiting for the cache memory to be snooped to determine whether the cache memory stores information in an address corresponding to a selected address of the system memory. The system controller may transmit a snoop request to the cache memory concurrently with or after the memory request is transmitted to the system memory. The system controller may have a control switch that uses a first pathway for the memory request and a second pathway for the snoop request so that the snoop and memory requests can be transmitted simultaneously.

Abstract: A method for ensuring secure delivery of a computer system to a customer. The computer system includes a motherboard with a processor, a read-only memory, and a programmable memory. The method encodes onto the read-only memory an identification number for the computer system. The computer system is sent to the customer via a first delivery channel and the identification number is sent to the customer via a second delivery channel. When the computer system is initially booted after being sent, the computer system prompts for input of the identification number for the computer system. When the computer system receives an identification number that matches the identification number encoded onto the read-only memory, it stores an indication of the match in the programmable memory indicating that the identification number has been verified to be correct so that the computer system operates normally thereafter.

Abstract: A integrated circuit, such as a memory integrated circuit, includes a vernier clock adjustment circuit receiving an input clock signal and providing a rising-edge clock signal representing the input clock signal delayed by a rising-edge delay and providing a falling-edge clock signal representing the input clock signal delayed by a falling-edge delay. An edge triggered circuit receives data and the rising-edge and falling-edge clock signals, and stores data at the rising-edge of the rising-edge clock signal and at the falling-edge of the falling-edge clock signal. One form of the invention is a memory system having a memory controller coupled to memory modules through data and command busses. Each memory module includes the vernier clock adjustment circuitry.
Abstract: An analog reading circuit having a current mirror circuit forcing two identical currents into a cell to be read and into a reference cell. An operational amplifier has an inverting input connected to the drain terminal of the cell to be read, a non-inverting input connected to the drain terminal of the reference cell, and an output connected to the gate terminal of the reference cell. The reference cell therefore forms part of a negative feedback loop which maintains the overdrive voltages of the cell to be read and the reference cell constant, irrespective of temperature variations. The reading circuit is also of high precision and has a high reading speed.

Abstract: A method and apparatus employs a production system-like rule based routine to process signals, such as reflectance signals produced from machine-readable symbols (e.g., bar code symbols). Relevant features data is extracted from each peak or valley in the signal, such as width, height, and relative size. The routine then uses the extracted data for each peak and valley with a set of rules to refine the reflectance signals. Under one or more iterations, the routine selects and resolves conflicting rules and applies resulting rules to process the signal. The processed signal can then be more readily decoded. The routine preferably processes a reflectance signal in portions, such as on a codeword-by-codeword basis. Under an alternative embodiment, a fuzzy inference engine provides sets of values for height, width and relative size. Therefrom rules are applied to determine a size of each peak and valley in the signal.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of and an apparatus for controlling a plurality of mutually communicating actuators, each of the actuators having at least one signal sensor for determining the state of the actuator, with at least one control apparatus generating, in accordance with the state of at least one of the actuators, control signals used for driving controllers of the actuators. In order to avoid overheating of the individual actuators or the control apparatus in case of a large number of actuations by a user, it is provided to determine the temperature of the actuators and the control apparatus cooperating with the actuators and, in case a predetermined temperature threshold value is exceeded in an actuator or the control apparatus, to generate a control signal for non-driving the controllers of the actuators until the excessive temperature detected drops below the temperature threshold value by a defined temperature value.
