  • Patent number: 5998570
Abstract: A low molecular weight, ester-terminated polyamide may be blended with a liquid hydrocarbon to form a transparent composition having gel consistency. The ester-terminated polyamide is prepared by reacting "x" equivalents of dicarboxylic acid wherein at least 50% of those equivalents are from polymerized fatty acid, "y" equivalents of diamine such as ethylene diamine, and "z" equivalents of monoalcohol having at least 4 carbon atoms. The stoichiometry of the reaction mixture is such that 0.9.ltoreq.{x/(y+z)}.ltoreq.1.1 and 0.1.ltoreq.{z/(y+z)}.ltoreq.0.7. The reactants are heated until they reach reaction equilibrium. The gel contains about 5-50% ester-terminated polyamide with the remainder preferably being pure hydrocarbon. The gels are useful in formulating personal care products and other articles wherein some degree of gel-like or self-supporting consistency is desired.

  • Patent number: 5999481
Abstract: A self refresh decoder generates a self refresh command as long as the clock enable signal transitions low within a predetermined latency period after an auto refresh command is generated. As a result, an SDRAM is able to enter the self refresh mode even though the clock enable control signal differentiating the auto refresh command from the self refresh command is excessively delayed beyond the other control signals corresponding to both the auto refresh and the self refresh commands. The self refresh decoder includes a counter that is preloaded with a latency value and decrements to a terminal count responsive to the auto refresh command to terminate the latency period. The output of the counter is decoded to provide an enable signal as long as the terminal count has not been reached. As long as the enable signal is present, the self refresh command is generated responsive to receipt of the clock enable signal.

  • Patent number: 5998572
Abstract: Methods and devices for controlling the oxidation of a hydrocarbon to an acid by regulating the temperature hold-up time, and conversion in consecutive reaction zones. The temperature in the consecutive reaction zones progressively decreases, while the hold-up time increases. Preferably, the conversion also increases. One of the major advantages of the methods and devices of the present invention is that an outstanding balance between productivity and selectivity/yield of the desired acid may be achieved. In this respect high yields and selectivities may be obtained without sacrificing productivity.

  • Patent number: 5998931
Abstract: A plasma etching device is described which includes a planar coil electrode positioned adjacent to a dielectric structure physically separating the electrode from a reaction chamber in which a plasma is formed. The electrode presents a variable width adjacent to the dielectric structure, with the width of inner coil windings being less than the width of outer coil windings. The electrode is connected to a terminal capacitance, whose value may be varied to present different voltage amplitudes at different locations along the coil electrode. By locating the larger width coil windings near the reaction chamber walls, and by varying the capacitance value of the terminal capacitor during plasma etching processing, improved plasma ignition, etching uniformity, and contamination conditions may result.

  • Patent number: 6000002
Abstract: A protection circuit for the prevention of program interruptions of electrical equipment controlled on the basis of program step clocks, by too frequent occurrences of non-maskable interrupt signals. This protection circuit comprises a controllable interrupt signal passage circuit which, depending on an output signal of a control signal source, can be controlled to a state permitting the passage of the non-maskable interrupt signal or to a state blocking said signal. The control signal source comprises a clock counter with overflow resetting function, by means of which program step clock pulses can be counted starting from a predetermined initial counting value until a predetermined overflow counting value is reached. The control signal source comprises furthermore an interrupt signal counter the counting value of which can be increased by each non-maskable interrupt event and decreased each time the overflow counting value of the clock counter is reached.

  • Patent number: 6000022
Abstract: A coupling circuit for coupling a first signal generated in a first circuit operating in a first clock domain to a second circuit operating in a second clock domain. The coupling circuit includes a first gate for coupling the first signal to a first logic circuit unless the coupling circuit has already applied a signal to the second circuit. The first logic circuit includes a pair of second gates that are enabled by respective rising and falling edges of the first clock signal. Thus, each of the second gates generates an output signal on respective transitions of the first clock signal as long as the first gate is coupling the first signal to the first logic circuit. The first logic circuit also includes a pair of latches coupled to respective outputs of the second gates. Each of the latches is set by its respective second gate generating the output signal.

  • Patent number: 6000001
Abstract: A single queuing structure enqueues requests of multiple priorities. The queuing structure is especially well adapted for use with requests that are part of AGP operations. For instance, the queuing structure may enqueue low priority read/flush requests, high priority read/flush requests, low priority write requests, and high priority write requests. The queuing structure may be logically partitioned into logical sub-queues where each sub-queues is associated with requests of a given type and a given priority. Each of the logical sub-queues may be configured to operate in a first-in-first-out (FIFO) fashion. Separate pointers may be maintained for identifying the bottom of each of the logical sub-queues within the single queuing structure.

  • Patent number: 5999941
Abstract: A method and system for accessing a database management system running on a server computer from within a JAVA applet running on a client computer. The JAVA applet prepares a URL to address an active server page on the server computer, embedding a database query within the URL. The JAVA applet then accesses the active server page using the prepared URL. The server computer, upon receiving a request for access to the active server page, executes a script stored within the active server page that receives the database query embedded within the URL, passes the query to the database management system, receives from the database management system the query results, creates a HTML document, and stores the query results in the HTML document. The server computer then returns the HTML document to the client computer, where the JAVA applet reads the query results from the HTML document.

  • Patent number: 5995841
Abstract: A technique for sharing radio frequency spectrum in a multiple communication satellite system with a plurality of satellites in each of a plurality of non-geostationary (non-GSO) Earth orbits. A first satellite communication system uses a plurality of predefined non-GSO Earth orbits and a second satellite communication system uses a plurality of predefined orbits that are interleaved with the orbital planes of the first satellite communication system. In this manner, it is possible to achieve satisfactory discrimination between satellites and Earth-based stations. With near polar orbits, the topocentric separation between satellites decreases as the latitude of the Earth-based stations increases due to the convergence of orbital planes near the poles. To compensate for the decreased topocentric separation, the system utilizes one or more mitigation techniques to select one of a plurality of possible satellites to communicate with the Earth-based station in order to effectively increase topocentric separation.

  • Patent number: 5996043
Abstract: A command buffer for use in packetized DRAM includes a two stage shift register for shifting for sequentially storing two of the four 10-bit command words in each packet. After the first two words of each packet have been shifted into the shift register, they are transferred to a first storage register and output from the first storage register. After the final two words of each packet have been shifted into the shift register, they are transferred to a second storage register and output from the second storage register. The first two command words are output from the first storage register before the last two command words are applied to the command buffer. As a result, the DRAM can start processing the first two command words of the command packet before the entire command packet has been received. The command buffer also includes circuitry for determining whether a command packet is intended for the memory device containing the command buffer or whether it is intended for another memory device.
