    Abstract: Automatic guided vehicle system for guiding a driverless vehicle over a predetermined path of travel without any tracks, wires or the like. The vehicle is provided with an active optical navigation section for determining vehicle position and bearing by scanning plural beacons distributed within the zone of travel of the vehicle, a passive ground navigation section including a gyrocompass for measuring changes in bearing of the vehicle and a wheel encoder for measuring distance traveled by the vehicle's steering wheel. Memory onboard the vehicle contains a series of path vectors which define a predetermined path of travel for the vehicle. The ground navigation section updates vehicle position and bearing as determined by the optical navigation section.

    Abstract: An apparatus for measuring a radiation characteristic of a laser diode. An AC signal and a step-like DC voltage are applied to the laser diode and the radiant power output thereof is received by a photodiode having an output to which a first amplifier, a transformer, a capacitor and an AC amplifier for extracting the AC signal. The apparatus further comprises a first switch connected between the input of the first amplifier and the capacitor, and a second switch connected between both ends of the transformer. Every time the step-like voltage is stepped up, the first and second switches are closed for a short time as compared with the duration of a step period to protect the measurement from the influence of the change in the DC voltage.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining mass flow of fluid flowing within a conduit. The conduit is oscillated periodically transverse to the flow therein, and sensors sense the movement of the conduit at discrete, spaced locations on the conduit. The sensors generate periodic signals representative of the movement of the conduit at said locations. The method of the present invention comprises the steps of determining the instantaneous amplitude difference between the signals at a plurality of discrete adjacent intervals (which may or may not be of equal width), determining the product of the absolute value of the instantaneous amplitude difference and the amplitude of the interval for each said interval, determining the sum of said products for each interval over a cycle of oscillation, and generating from the sum a signal representative of mass flow.

The first section is sized for insertion into the second envelope after detachment from the second section. The first section comprises a non-releasable label having a first and second identification thereon. The first identification is located on the non-releasable label of the first section such that when the first section is inserted into the second envelope, the first indentification is in registry with the window of the second envelope. The second portion of the insert comprises a releasable label having the second identification thereon.

    Abstract: A precision power saw assembly which includes a saw table manufactured for exceeding close tolerance cutting of metals by a circular saw blade. The saw blade and its arbor are mounted for horizontal translation from one end of the saw table to the other by means of a servo controlled drive motor which is attached to a ball screw type drive so as to prevent backlash. The arbor is supported on a carriage way positioned vertically below the arbor and is stabilized by a second horizontally positioned carriage way. Each carriage way is attached to a single side of the support frame below the work piece support surface. The saw blade is driven by a constant speed motor having a variable speed transmission and gear box so as to permit selective adjustment of the cutting speed of the saw blade. The work piece is clamped on opposite sides of the cut and a precision work piece positioning apparatus is provided so as to further effectuate the cutting operation within a close tolerance range.

A calculating circuit responsive to the signal from the first circuit and the signal from the second circuit is provided for calculating the velocity of the projectile as a function of the time difference between the signals.

    Abstract: A two-part mould for moulding an article has the mould parts adapted to be moved together under vacuum to cause moulding material to be evenly distributed around a reinforcement structure. Sealing means for sealing the mold cavity against ambient atmosphere, comprises a primary seal operative during the movement of the mould parts, the action of the primary seal being assisted by a secondary seal which becomes effective when the mould parts reach the final closed position. A collection chamber is formed in one of the mould parts for collection of surplus resin through pinch-off means, including a flexible part, which closes off flow of resin into the collection chamber in the closed position, of the mould parts. The collection chamber is preferably located to permit drainage of resin back to the mould cavity until the pinch-off means becomes effective.

    Abstract: An apparatus for reinflating an object such as a punctured automobile tire. The apparatus including a valve assembly having a housing with two inputs which are connected to an outlet through passageways within the housing. A valve is provided such that the input passageway which receives the output from a compressed air source is connected, in its normal position, to the outlet of the housing for connection to an automobile tire or inflatable object. The second input to the valve assembly is opened by placing the valve in the second position. The second position of the valve closes the first input from the compressor to the outlet and seals the first input from the second input. The second input includes a threaded fitting on an aerosol type can which seals the input to the housing as well as it seals with respect to the can to which it is attached.
