  • Patent number: 4981010
Abstract: A horse boot, for enclosing a horse hoof to at least above its coronet band, comprises a flexible enclosure molded and adapted to fit around a horse hoof. The enclosure has inner and outer surfaces, an upper opening, a bottom portion and a wrap-around wall portion integral with the bottom portion. The bottom portion includes upper and lower surfaces and the upper surface includes a marginal portion. The wrap-around wall portion includes an upper rim, inner and outer surfaces and a vertical slit. The slit intersects the upper opening and terminates substantially adjacent the bottom portion, thereby permitting the upper opening to be enlarged for putting on or removing the boot from the horse hoof. A belt and buckle assembly is operably associated with the wrap-around wall portion for securing the boot around the horse roof. The enclosure includes a layer of absorent cloth material bonded to the inside surface thereof.

  • Patent number: 4981056
Abstract: The process for securing a machine tool bed to a base includes the steps of providing a base having a horizontally disposed first surface wherein a plurality of cooperating grooves are disposed. A selected quantity of hardenable grout material is deposited into the grooves. A bed has a second surface from which a plurality of tongues extend, and each tongue has side surfaces which are relatively rougher than the associated distal surface. The bed is horizontally positioned above the base so that each tongue is received in an associated groove and each distal surface is spaced from the associated underlying groove, thereby causing the grout material to rise by an amount insufficient to contact the second surface. The bed is maintained spaced above the base until the grout material has hardened and thereby binds each side surface but not the associated distal surface to the base.

  • Patent number: 4981109
Abstract: A feeder tray for baby chicks comprises a peck-disintegratable bio-degradable fiber receptacle. The receptacle is adapted to be completely disintegratable into tiny particles by the end of the brooding period from the pecking of the chicks so that the tiny particles will substantially decompose on site, thereby eliminating the necessity to remove and dispose of a feeder tray after the chicks have outgrown the need for a feeder tray.

  • Patent number: 4974488
Abstract: The invention provides a rope splicing apparatus having an elongated tool portion including a main portion, a tip portion and a transitional portion. The main portion comprises a pair of straight and parallel main rod portions which are spaced apart at a main portion width along the length thereof. The tip portion comprises a generally U-shaped rod portion having a bend portion and leg portions which are spaced apart at a width narrower than the main portion width. The transitional portion has a pair of short rod portions flaring outwardly from the tip portion to interconnect the main rod portion to form a unitary tool. The tip portion is of a size which can penetrate strands of a single or dual braid rope to draw portions of the rope therethrough. The apparatus is used to practice a method of splicing such ropes to form eye splices, and marriage splices, with less difficulty than using conventional fids.

  • Patent number: 4972477
Abstract: The encoder/decoder comprises a spherical body on which is provided a plurality of different letters and/or numerals. Connecting means in the form of three circular members sharing the same axis encompass the sphere, two defining two parallel sighting hoops and the third defining a sighting ring. The connecting means are mounted on a support body so that the relative rotation of the connecting means and the body can be effected. In use, the body is rotated until two specified indicia lie usually between the two sighting hoops in a specified order. Then, one or more indicia are read from the sighting ring. The encoder/decoder may be used to protect computer software against copying, and may also be used to hinder unauthorized access to remote computer systems. Thus, the number of individuals using a system can be limited to the number interrogating the user, can determine whether he has in his possession a suitable encoder/decoder such as outlined above.
