  • Patent number: 7941106
Abstract: A method for controlling local oscillator (LO) feed-through in a direct transmitter includes detecting a signal level corresponding to LO feed-through in a radio frequency (RF) signal that is output by a direct transmitter. Responsive to detecting the signal level corresponding to LO feed-through, DC offset levels are modified for an in-phase (I) signal and/or a quadrature-phase (Q) signal in the direct transmitter.

  • Patent number: 7937049
Abstract: According to an exemplary embodiment, a transmitter system includes a power amplifier receiving a supply voltage and a supply current from a power control/current detection circuit, where the power amplifier drives a load impedance. The transmitter system further includes a power correction module configured to sample the supply current and to cause a change in a control voltage, which corrects the supply voltage in response to a change in the load impedance. The supply voltage is corrected to cause the power amplifier to have a substantially constant output power. The power correction module is further configured to output a corrected peak voltage determined by an average value of the supply current. The transmitter system further includes a predistortion module configured to determine the control voltage from a product of the corrected peak voltage and an amplitude modulation component and to output the control voltage to the power control/current detection circuit.

  • Patent number: 7929938
Abstract: Second-order intermodulation distortion can be suppressed in a direct conversion radio receiver having a downconversion mixer by calibrating resistors and a current source in the mixer. A test signal is applied to the signal inputs of the mixer transconductor. The resistances of first and second variable resistor circuits connected to the switching quad are then varied while also varying a variable current source. Each time the resistances and current are set to new values, the resulting mixer output signal is measured. When the measured output signal is determined to be at a minimum, the variable resistors and current source are left at the corresponding values to which they have been set. Adjusted in this manner, the current source counteracts the DC offset voltage at the mixer output.

  • Patent number: 7923842
Abstract: A gallium arsenide (GaAs) integrated circuit device is provided. The GaAs circuit device has a GaAs substrate with a copper contact layer for making electrical ground contact with a pad of a target device. Although copper is known to detrimentally affect GaAS devices, the copper contact layer is isolated from the GaAs substrate using a barrier layer. The barrier layer may be, for example, a layer of nickel vanadium (NiV). This nickel vanadium (NiV) barrier protects the gallium arsenide substrate from the diffusion effects of the copper contact layer. An organic solder preservative may coat the exposed copper to reduce oxidation effects. In some cases, a gold or copper seed layer may be deposited on the GaAs substrate prior to depositing the copper contact layer.

  • Patent number: 7894806
Abstract: A telecommunication system includes a processor, interfaces in communication with the public telephone network and a data network, respectively, and a memory. The memory comprises executable instructions that when executed by the processor direct the system to controllably permit access to a teleconference bridge in response to a communication from a mobile-communication device that includes information responsive to a previously communicated license key. Generally, the communication is in the form of a call from the user of the mobile-communication device. Upon receipt of the call, the telecommunication system confirms that the mobile-communication device communicates a pass code that was included in an encrypted form in the license key.
