    Abstract: A seal assembly is arranged to contain leakage of hydraulic fluid passing between a wall opening and a penetrant rod portion passing through the opening. The seal assembly includes a sliding-seal member mounted on a portion of the rod for sliding movement toward and away from an abutment surface and a non-sliding flexible-seal member arranged between the body and the sliding-seal member. The body, flexible-seal member, sliding-seal member and rod define a sealed chamber into which such fluid will leak. The chamber communicates with a fluid reservoir through a oneway check valve. The sliding-seal and flexible-seal members are arranged in parallel with one another. In one embodiment, a spring urges the sliding-seal member to move toward an abutment surface provided on the rod. In another embodiment, movement of the sliding-seal member relative to the body is limited by facing abutment steps.

The module is made by first providing a loose sub-assembly of a plurality of individual but interfitting sealant bodies on the fiber optic element and then inserting this subassembly into a metal sleeve, followed by swaging the whole assembly which eliminates clearances and provides sealed interfaces between the various contacting components.

    Abstract: A temperature probe has a metal casing, closed at one end and open at its other, in which a temperature sensor is buried in compacted hygroscopic mineral insulation having an exposed end face through which extend wires from the sensor. Such end face is sealed to keep it dry by a metal tube having one end surrounding and brazed to the metal casing, and plugged at its other end by a body of compressed sealant material. Lead wires extend through the sealant body and are electrically joined in a space provided between the exposed end face of mineral insulation and the opposing inner end face of the sealant plug.

    Abstract: A pressure generator for testing and calibrating pressure transducers has a body with an internal chamber. The chamber is filled with a liquid, statically pressurized. A piston is mounted in the chamber on a suspension member. A coil, mounted to move with the piston, is arranged in a magnetic field. The coil is supplied with varying current to cause the piston to oscillate or dither in the chamber. Such oscillation creates a dynamic pressure which is superimposed on the static pressure. Openings are provided in the body to receive the sensing end of one or more pressure transducers.

    Abstract: A pressure regulator has an element slidably mounted in a body. A through-bore in the element is arranged to be selectively opened and closed in response to the magnitude of a sensed pressure relative to a predetermined pressure. If such sensed pressure substantially exceeds the predetermined pressure, the element is displaced relative to the body to seat against a high pressure poppet. Such closure of the element through-bore by the high pressure poppet is thereafter maintained, even should the sensed pressure subsequently fall below the predetermined pressure, and requires a manual reset.

    Abstract: A vacuum package tester is capable of providing data by which the internal pressure and volume of residual gas of a flexible wall vacuum package exposed to atmospheric pressure may be calculated. A container partially filled with liquid is surrounded by a deformation-absorbing enclosure. A vacuum pump reduces the pressure in the head space above the liquid, thereby causing a submerged package to expand. Pressure gauges record the respective pressures in the head space when the package expands by first and second known volumes. From this data, the internal pressure and volume of residual gas of said package, when exposed to ambient pressure and temperature, may be calculated. In use, the invention also performs an improved method.

If the sensed pulse frequency is within the band width of the set frequency, the switch passes the first signal to an output terminal. If the sensed pulse frequency falls outside the band width of the set frequency, the switch passes the second signal to the output terminal.

    Abstract: Apparatus for measuring the permeability of a material to passage of a fluid includes a pressure regulator for varying the pressure of a supplied fluid, a pair of jaws which may be clamped onto the material specimen, a solenoid valve arranged between the regulator and the jaws, and a collapsible container arranged to be inflated with such fluid as may pass through the clamped specimen during the test. The permeability of the test specimen is determined in terms of the length of time needed for a known volume of such fluid to pass through the specimen, when fluid at a test pressure is applied to a unit area thereof. The apparatus may further include a pressure switch arranged to sense an inflated condition of the container, and a timer to disable the apparatus until sufficient time has been provided to enable the container to return to its deflated condition. In use, such apparatus performs an improved method of measuring the permeability of the material to passage of such fluid.
