  • Patent number: 4604044
Abstract: A process and multistation apparatus for injection blow molding a thermoplastic material to form a blow molded container having an integral injection molded handle is disclosed. The process and apparatus feature an injection mold which is closed to form an injection mold cavity with a contiguous injection mold handle cavity. A preform pin is inserted into the injection mold cavity through a preform carrier to form a preform recess into which hot thermoplastic is injected to form a hollow preform having a solid injection molded handle. After cooling the thermoplastic preform the preform pin is withdrawn and the molds are opened. The injection formed preform may be optionally heat treated prior to the preform being enclosed within a blow mold. The blow mold forms a cavity having the final desired container shape and a cavity into which the handle is enclosed.

  • Patent number: 4592245
Abstract: A window regulator comprises a stiff but bendable elongated guide of general C-shape having inturned retainer flanges, and a flexible tape of a cross-section conforming to the interior of said guide, and slidably retained therein by the flanges. The bottom wall of the guide preferably has a channel therein contributing to its stiffness and providing spaces for fasteners for installing the guide or mounting structure thereon. The portion of the tape exposed between the edges of the flanges is formed with rack teeth for driven engagement with a drive pinion preferably mounted on the guide. A housing for the drive pinion has a connector for connecting to one end of the tape, and the end portion of the tape beyond the guide is thus formed into an expandable loop. In order to avoid subjecting the guide to large stresses due to tape tension, a relatively large gear carried by the guide engages the tape at a major bend of the guide. A spring is connected to the gear to act in window-raising direction.

  • Patent number: 4589301
Abstract: A linearly infinitely variable mechanism comprises first and second portions which are relatively axially positionable to establish the effective length of the mechanism. A rotary element is axially captured on the second portion. The operative connection between the first portion and the second portion is via a threaded connection of the first portion with the rotary element. The axial capture of the rotary element comprises a twist lock which, when locked, forcefully abuts the ends of the rotary element to preclude its rotation and prevent a change in the effective length of the mechanism provided that the first and second portions are constrained against relative rotation. When unlocked, the rotary element can rotate within its axial capture so that axial forces applied to the mechanism are effective to change its length.

  • Patent number: 4589148
Abstract: A toilet hinge for hingedly mounting a seat and/or cover on a toilet bowl comprises a hinge part which includes resiliently yieldable fingers for cooperative engagement with the hinge pin. The hinge part contains a circular aperture having a circumferential extent greater than 180.degree. but less than 360.degree., with the resiliently yieldable fingers extending from the aperture at a circumferential opening in the aperture. The resiliently yieldable fingers define a throat within which the hinge pin is received in response to downward loading applied to the seat and/or cover. The resilient yielding of the fingers allows the seat and/or cover to assume full support on the bowl rim so that the undesired stress levels in the parts, including the hinges, are avoided. When the downward load is removed, the resiliently yieldable fingers urge the hinge pin back into the aperture, thereby slightly elevating the rear of the seat and/or cover.

  • Patent number: 4587761
Abstract: An edge guard and method whereby the edge guard is used to substantially fill the gap between the trailing edge of a door onto which the edge guard is installed and an adjacent portion of the vehicle body. In the case of a two-door model car and the rear door of a four-door model car the adjacent body structure is a pillar or post. In the case of the front door of a four-door model the adjacent body structure may be the front edge of the rear door. When the rear door swing is such that its front edge swings slightly forwardly when the door is opened, provision is made so that the front edge of the rear door does not hit the edge guard on the front door. The edge guard is characterized by inner and outer legs of substantially longer length than other edge guards whereby the edge guard may have a variable engagement with the door edge to permit adjustment for a range of different thicknesses of gap.

  • Patent number: 4584876
Abstract: Test apparatus for on-site testing of an air compressor to obtain a measurement from which the operating efficiency of the air compressor and air flow rate may be calculated to enable the owner of the compressor to determine whether replacement or rebuilding of the compressor is justified. The apparatus comprises an inlet for connection to the air compressor being tested and branch circuits through which the air flow from the compressor is selectively passed. Each branch circuit contains a particular size orifice and an associated shut-off valve, and the condition of the shut-off valves determines the orifice selection. The orifice selection is made to match the running compressor and attain a balanced condition. In this regard a pressure regulator and by-pass control valve, in parallel with each other, are also in the test apparatus for adjustment to obtain the balanced condition.

  • Patent number: 4579046
Abstract: Improved lubricant control assemblies for reciprocating piston rods of an engine which prevent crankcase lubricant intruding into the cylinders and fluid from the cylinders from escaping into the crankcase. Each assembly comprises a tubular scraper fitting closely onto a piston rod and yieldably mounted within the bore between cylinder and crankcase through which the piston rod extends. The yieldable mounting is by means of a compliant housing. The compliant housing allows the scraper to be displaced radially and thereby follow limited radial displacement of the piston rod while maintaining substantially full effectiveness of the scraper's action on the reciprocating piston rod. The scraper is urged into forceful contact around the piston rod by means of a crown spring which is supported on a tubular part which attaches to the compliant housing.

  • Patent number: 4575967
Abstract: The window glass closure for a vehicle window opening occupies a closed position in which its outer surface is substantially flush with the exterior surface of the door or other body portion in which the opening is provided. This is accomplished by guiding the upper edge of the window along a path inclined slightly outwardly of the vehicle as the window completes its upward movement from its lowered open position. It further comprises guiding the lower edge of the window along a path which is inclined substantially outwardly from the vertical as the window reaches upper position. Preferably this is effected by a generally vertical main guide track which receives a follower carried adjacent the upper edge of the window constrained to follow the main guide track. An abruptly inclined diversion track is connected with the main guide track which receives a follower carried adjacent the lower edge of the window and is adapted to depart from the main track and to enter the inclined diversion track portion.
