  • Patent number: 8216463
Abstract: A water filter cartridge particularly suited for a water filtration system incorporated into refrigerators includes an outer housing, a water filtration media inside the housing, and a cap affixed to an end of the housing to thereby enclose the filtration media. A portion of the cap defines a large cylindrical cavity having a channel formed therein which is positioned so that an O-ring provides a substantially water-tight seal when the filter cartridge is in an operative position in a manifold. The O-ring prevents water from otherwise flowing through the channel and externally of the water filtration system. Under normal water pressure the water filtration system will immediately visually exhibit a substantial leak if the filter cartridge is coupled to the manifold of the water filtration system in the operative position without the O-ring being positioned in the large cylindrical cavity.

  • Patent number: 8215440
Abstract: A drive train of a vehicle is disclosed which comprises a permanently driven primary axle and a secondary axle connectable to the primary axle via a switch-on device with a switch-on mechanism, whereby the secondary drive train output via side shaft couplings is transferred to the drive wheels of the secondary axle. Because the switch-on mechanism and/or the side shaft couplings have frictionally engaged couplings, it can be that when the secondary axle is uncoupled, the shutdown section of the secondary drive train located between the switch-on device and the side shaft couplings is uncoupled both from the primary axle and from the secondary drive wheels, such that there is no more power loss in this shutdown section, whereby connecting the secondary drive train during travel is possible all the same and losses in comfort and practicability do not have to be tolerated.

  • Patent number: 8217507
Abstract: A semiconductor package which is structured to allow for the edge mounting thereof in a vertical mount orientation. The semiconductor package comprises a flexible substrate or “flex circuit.” The flexible substrate includes a conductive pattern disposed on a first surface thereof, and a plurality of conductive pads or terminals disposed on a second surface thereof which is disposed in opposed relation to the first surface. Mounted to the first surface of the flexible substrate are one or more electronic components such as semiconductor dies. The semiconductor die(s) is/are electrically connected to the conductive pattern, and thereafter covered or encapsulated by a package body applied to a portion of the first surface of the flexible substrate. That portion of the flexible substrate including the conductive pads or terminals formed on the second surface thereof is thereafter folded and adhered to a portion of the package body through the use of a suitable adhesive.

  • Patent number: 8211384
Abstract: A filter vial and piston are provided where the vial has a cylindrical wall with a closed bottom and open top and with the hollow, tubular piston therein. The piston has a distal end covered by a cup having a proximal cup seal extending outward to engage the walls of the vial to form a fluid tight seal with the vial during use. The distal end of the piston has a piston flange extending outwardly and located adjacent a recess in the piston so the cup forms a snap fit over the piston flange and extends into the recess. The piston flange causes the cup to bulge sufficiently outward to form a fluid tight seal with the vial during use. A filter is placed in the bottom of the cup and abuts an inwardly extending lip on the cup. The filter is held against the lip by a piston support at the distal end of the piston. A cup support at a distal end of the cup also helps support the filter.

  • Patent number: 8209835
Abstract: There is provided a splitting tool for use with a pipe defining a longitudinal pipe axis. The pipe includes an outer wall and an inner wall defining a pipe channel. A ferrule is circumferentially disposed about the outer wall. The splitting tool includes a pipe support member defining an outer periphery that is substantially complimentary in shape to the inner wall. The pipe support member is insertable within the pipe channel to extend at least through the ferrule and to provide radial support to the inner wall. The splitting tool additionally includes a splitter member operatively connected to the pipe support member. The splitter member defines a longitudinal splitting axis that is substantially perpendicular to the pipe axis when the pipe support member is inserted within the pipe channel. The splitter member is moveable along the splitting axis to radially engage with and pierce the ferrule.

  • Patent number: 8210029
Abstract: A pipeline pressure testing assembly has a fitting defining a flow path and having a port on a wall of the fitting into which a pressure testing device is removably inserted along a central axis of the port for pressure testing. The port is circular, larger than the interior diameter of the pipeline and located at or above the tube forming the flow path through the fitting. The fitting has a recess encircling at least part of the flow path and opening to the port to receive the testing and sealing devices. The recess is formed by two opposing walls inclined relative to the central axis of the recess. The recess walls at the top of the flow path by the port are spaced apart a distance as large as the pipe diameter for cleanout and inspection. A tubular valve stem screws into the testing device and has a rotary valve blocking flow through the tubular valve stem. Flow through the fitting is blocked with the rotary valve closed and the tubular valve stem in a first position.

  • Patent number: 8201580
Abstract: A valve positioner for controlling a valve closure element is provided. The positioner includes a positioner housing with a plurality of fluid flow passageways in fluid communication with a fluid supply source and the valve closure element. The positioner housing is configured to receive a detachable spool manifold assembly. The spool manifold assembly is positioned adjacent the plurality of fluid flow passageways. The spool manifold assembly includes a reciprocally moveable spool configured to selectively port fluid flow from the plurality of fluid flow passageways. The spool manifold assembly includes a diaphragm connected to the spool via a flexible shaft. The diaphragm is in fluid communication with a transducer for receiving a fluid causing the diaphragm to expand or contract and thereby displacing the spool. The flexible shaft is radially elastic in order to minimize axial backlash between the diaphragm and the spool. The flexible shaft configuration minimizes the spool stroke.

  • Patent number: 8184453
Abstract: Disclosed is a lead frame and a semiconductor device including the same. The lead frame is provided with a die pad, and first, second and third lands sequentially arranged on an outer circumferential edge. The lead frame can separate the first and second lands or the die pad and the first land using a plating layer formed on the lead frame as a mask, instead of using a separate mask by etching after the application of the encapsulant. As a result thereof, a plurality of lands can be formed at low cost, in comparison with a conventional method. Additionally, the first, second and third lands are exposed to the outside through a lower portion of an encapsulant, and can be surface mounted on an external device through the first, second and third lands.
