Abstract: Disclosed herein is a symmetric cyclic phosphonate compound represented by the following Formula 1, a method of preparing the same and a flame retardant styrenic resin composition including the same: wherein R1 and R2 are each independently hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl or C6-C20 aryl. The styrene resin composition employing the symmetric cyclic phosphonate compound exhibits good flame retardancy and impact strength, does not release halide gas during preparation or combustion of the resin composition, and thus is environmentally friendly.

Abstract: A polycarbonate resin composition comprises: about 30 to about 99% by weight of a polycarbonate resin (A); and about 1 to about 70% by weight of a rubber modified aromatic vinyl based copolymer resin (B); and about 0.1 to about 40 parts by weight of a phosphorous compound (C) including a phosphate compound (C1) and a phosphonate compound (C2), per 100 parts by weight of a base resin including (A) and (B). The polycarbonate resin composition can have excellent flame retardancy and improved heat resistance by using a combination of at least two different phosphorous compounds.

Abstract: A weather resistant thermoplastic resin having excellent low gloss characteristics according to the present invention comprises a (meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester-based polymer (A) and an aromatic vinyl-cyanide vinyl based copolymer (B), wherein the (meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester-based polymer (A) forms a network-shaped disperse phase, and the aromatic vinyl-cyanide vinyl based copolymer (B) forms a continuous phase. Abstract: Disclosed is an optical fiber cable that includes optical fibers and a deformable coupling element enclosed within a buffer tube. The coupling element is formed from a deformable yet substantially incompressible material and features a number of raised members projecting toward the optical fibers. The design of the coupling element layer permits coupling of the optical fibers to the buffer tube without the use of a compressive cushioning layer. This arrangement distributes the compressive force applied to discrete points along the outer perimeter of the optical fiber element.
Abstract: A navigation system for portable communications devices may comprise computer programs for providing a geographical context for display in the portable device. The portable device periodically interacts with at least one of a telecommunications network and a GPS network to update an information portal with current location information. The navigation system includes displaying information on the portable communications device representative of a change in location of the mobile telephone device or a change in location of another tracked device. The information representative of the change in location can be overlaid on the geographical context and both displayed in the mobile telephone device. The combined geographical context and specific location data is scaled to fit a display on a portable communications device. Other embodiments provide means for obtaining information representative of a location of some object or of another object for display in the mobile telephone device.
Abstract: The invention provides a new tether or leash product in the form of a guide assembly that provides an alternative to wrist cuffs and harnesses that physically bind a dependent individual. The guide assembly, or tether system, allows a dependent individual to engage a security grip or handle in the shape of a character or other appealing design. The security grip is removably attached to a tether, lead, line, or other extension device that ultimately connects to another individual, such as a parent or a caregiver. The dependent individual is trained to engage the security grip by removing the security grip from the lead portion of the guide assembly and enjoying the security grip as a separate toy. By developing an affinity for the security grip, the dependent individual desirably engages the security grip when in use with the guide assembly.

Abstract: A mirror hangs from a transparent enclosure which may surround a shower, a bathtub, or other bathing area. The mirror may be in a position that avoids condensation on the surface of the mirror from steam emitted from the transparent enclosure. Abstract: Method for overcladding an optical fiber preform with a given target diameter (D0) of the final preform includes providing a primary preform to be overcladded, and successively depositing first overcladding layers by projecting and vitrifying silica particles on the primary preform moving in relative translation with a plasma torch. Each first overcladding layer has a given uniform thickness (d) and is deposited at a given, constant silica particle flow rate and at a given, constant translation speed. The method also includes the detection of a preform diameter (D1) greater than a given threshold (S) and the deposition of a final overcladding layer having the remaining required thickness (D0?D1) at a constant silica particle flow rate and at a reduced translation speed. The inventive method enables a preform to be overcladded efficiently with improved yield and high quality.
