  • Patent number: 7919681
Abstract: The invention provides polynucleotides, preferably synthetic polynucleotides, which encode processing enzymes that are optimized for expression in plants. The polynucleotides encode mesophilic, thermophilic, or hyperthermophilic processing enzymes, which are activated under suitable activating conditions to act upon the desired substrate. Also provided are “self-processing” transgenic plants, and plant parts, e.g., grain, which express one or more of these enzymes and have an altered composition that facilitates plant and grain processing. Methods for making and using these plants, e.g., to produce food products having improved taste and to produce fermentable substrates for the production of ethanol and fermented beverages are also provided.

  • Patent number: 7914993
Abstract: The presently disclosed subject matter provides improved processes for processing starch from plant sources, including processes for starch liquefaction, for simultaneous liquefaction and saccharification, and for the preparation of ethanol. These processes can be performed without a pH adjustment and at relatively low temperatures. The processes can involve the use of starch-containing plant material derived from plants that express starch-digesting enzymes. The presently disclosed subject matter further relates to improved processes for the preparation of other starch-derived products, including dried distiller grain (dried distiller grain) and dried distiller grain and solubles (dried distiller grain and solubles), and to the starch-derived products, themselves.

  • Patent number: 7169595
Abstract: The invention provides a synthetic phytase polynucleotide which is optimized for expression in plants and which encodes at thermotolerant phytase, as well as isolated thermotolerant phytase enzyme. Also provided are feed or food products comprising a thermotolerant phytase, and transgenic plants which express the thermotolerant phytase. Further provided are methods for making and using thermotolerant phytases, e.g., a method of using a thermotolerant phytase in feed and food processing.

  • Patent number: 6784618
Abstract: The invention concerns faceplate, more particularly for plasma display, comprising a substrate on which is provided at least one electrode, made of conductive material consisting of a metal alloy based on aluminium and/or zinc having a melting point higher than 700° C.; the electrode is designed to be coated with a dielectric layer. Thus, the harmful effects derived from reactions of the electrode materials with those of the dielectric layer are limited, in particular when said layer is being cured.

  • Patent number: 6706952
Abstract: The Arabidopsis NI16 gene was isolated in a yeast 2-hybrid screen via its interaction with the NIM1 protein. The NI16 gene encodes a protein involved in the regulation of SAR gene expression in plants. NI16 is strongly induced in NIM1-overexpressing plants treated with benzo(1,2,3)thiadiazole-7-carbothioic acid S-methyl ester (BTH). The NIMI interactor can be expressed in transgenic plants, either alone or in combination with the NIMI protein, to increase expression of SAR genes such as PR-1.
