  • Patent number: 6782096
Abstract: A subscriber line driver (SLD) is provided for the continuous and automatic transformation of the characteristics of a communication system signal so that the signal conforms to a power spectral distribution (PSD) standard. The signal is transformed by the SLD which may increase (amplify) portions of the signal to a predefined specification, decrease (attenuate) portions of the signal to a predefined specification, and/or frequency modulate or filter the transmit signal frequencies to fit within the communication channel frequency bandwidth as defined by a predefined frequency band. After modification by the SLD, the transformed communication signal is injected (transmitted) into a communication transmission line. An SLD device can be employed in a variety of communication systems such as a public telephony system, a private branch exchange (PBX), a coaxial cable system, a fiber optic system, a microwave system, a radio communication system or the like.

  • Patent number: 6771740
Abstract: The eavesdropping prevention system and method of the present invention provides a controllable line selection unit which couples a receiver and a transmitter to a selected one of a plurality of subscriber loops according to the current channel of a time-multiplexed communication signal. The controllable line selection unit prevents meaningful detection and amplification of the leakage signal by physically isolating communication connections from each other. In the preferred embodiment, the controllable line selection unit actuates a plurality of switches coupled to a plurality of communication connections. Alternative embodiments of a controllable line selection unit are described.

  • Patent number: 6766178
Abstract: A multi-band RF architecture including a GSM quadrature modulator for modulating an intermediate frequency (IF) wherein the frequency of the modulated IF signal is changed such that each of the GSM, DCS 1800, and PCS 1900 bands have a respective IF. An intermediate frequency (IF) filter with a pass band that covers the GSM IF, the DCS 1800 IF, and the PCS 1900 IF is connected to the output of the modulator and outputs to a transmit phase lock loop, which translates the IF signal from the IF filter to either a GSM band radio frequency signal, a DCS 1800 band radio frequency signal, or a PCS 1900 band radio frequency signal, depending on the frequency of a local oscillator (LO). The receiver employs a down converter which provides a down converted output signal selected by high side injection for the GSM band an by low side injection for the DCS 1800 and PCS 1900 bands.

  • Patent number: 6760385
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for universal decoding of both feedforward codes and feedback codes, such as decoding of a 512-state feedforward code, a 32-state feedback code and 8-state feedback code. Utilizing parallel processing, the present invention determines, for each current state of a feedforward or a feedback code, its most likely previous states, resulting in a determination of a terminating state and a penultimate terminating state. From the penultimate terminating state and terminating state, associated subset bits are determined. In the preferred embodiment, the subset bits are determined by re-encoding the most significant bit of the penultimate terminating state in an encoder having a current state equal to the terminating state. Utilizing an equalized, received signal, a closest signaling point, with an associated index, is selected from a subset of a signaling constellation corresponding to the associated subset bits.

  • Patent number: 6745401
Abstract: A wader includes a wader leg and a leg insulator. The leg insulator is placed in contact with the wader leg and provides thermal insulation for a user's leg when the user is wearing the wader. However, the leg insulator can be easily and conveniently removed from the wader leg while the user's leg is positioned within the wader leg. Therefore, it is not necessary for the user to remove the wader in order to reduce the amount of thermal insulation provided to his or her leg.

  • Patent number: 6728649
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing glitches, interference or noise from a clock signal are provided by the present invention. In accordance with the invention, a glitch-ridden clock signal is monitored to determine when a transition in the glitch ridden clock signal occurs. When a transition occurs, a counter is initiated in accordance with a second high-speed clock signal. The value of this counter is compared to a compare value. The compare value is selected to approximately equal the expected period of the glitch-ridden clock signal. If the counter value equals the compare value, it is assumed that the transition was a valid transition and the transition is carried through and output as a glitch-free clock signal. However, if a transition occurs before the count value equals the counter compare value, it is assumed that the transition is invalid and no transition is carried to the glitch-free clock output.

  • Patent number: 6707030
Abstract: A method for dynamically calibrating automatic infrared sensing devices in commercial use having an IR detector. Randomly reflected emitted IR radiation is detected by the IR detector which sends as IR detector output to a control module. The control module measures whether the detector output is too high or too low compared to a standard range of output values stored in the control module. An IR emitter input value is then determined to maintain IR detector output within the standard output range of values. This IR emitter input value is stored in the control module as a calibration standard until the next calibration cycle.
