  • Patent number: 4856951
Abstract: A fastening assembly for use in attaching articles to soft materials such as gypsum based and light weight concrete roofing. The assembly includes an anchoring element which has a high thread and an axial bore in one end. The thread has an included angle of less than 45.degree. and terminates in a sharp edge at the free end of the anchoring element. A headed screw is driven into the bore and becomes fixed to the anchoring element. A flange is integrally molded and frangibly connected to the bored end of the anchoring element, and becomes a washer upon breaking away therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4848209
Abstract: The apparatus, provided for undersea work, includes a barrel holder, a barrel for guiding a fastener intended to be driven by the gases of a propulsive charge and a percussion system for setting off the charge. The percussion system includes a striker, a bolt for cocking the striker, a tumbler for releasing the bolt, a trigger for actuating the tumbler and a chamber having a liquid intake orifice and a suction orifice. The tumbler is movable in the chamber and the trigger, when operated, closes the intake orifice, pushes back the liquid and moves the tumbler thus allowing percussion of the charge. Upon return of the trigger into the rest and rearming position, the suction orifice makes possible to compensate the leaks in the chamber and to use the apparatus again.

  • Patent number: 4844258
Abstract: An improved carrier tape is disclosed comprising a cover strip and a base strip formed of a plastic material and designed to mechanically interlock with each other. The cover strip includes a top surface from which opposed sidewalls extend downwardly. The cover strip is further provided with a pair of longitudinally extending humps which project upwardly from the top face. The humps are generally semi-circular in cross-section and are positioned adjacent the edges of the cover strip, spaced inwardly of the sidewalls. The humps define living hinges for the adjacent surfaces of the cover strip top face and the sidewalls so that when the humps are depressed the sidewalls move laterally outwardly.

  • Patent number: 4836372
Abstract: A strip of collated nails for use with a rapidly acting, nail-driven tool. The shank of each nail has a cylindrical portion adjoining the head and a ringed portion and having an axial array of annular rings of an outer diameter greater than the diameter of the cylindrical portion. The nails are collated by a pair of tapes, each tape extending across and being adhered to a respective one of diametrically opposed areas on the cylindrical portion of the shank of each nail by an adhesive layer. Each tape and the adhesive layer adhering such tape have a combined thickness covering, on one side of the nail shanks, less than one-half of the difference between outer diameter of the rings and the diameter of the cylindrical portion or cylindrical portions, whereby a nail driven from the strip into a workpiece tends to carry into the workpiece, along with the driven nail, such portions of the tapes and the adhesive layes as are torn from the strip with the driven nail.

  • Patent number: 4830556
Abstract: A two piece rivet having a deflectable drive pin for retaining the drive pin in a partially inserted position between the expandable prongs of the rivet is disclosed. The deflectable drive pin includes a hole forming two parallel resiliently deflectable segments each having a radial nib resiliently urged against the head of the rivet in a central drive pin hole. Retention of the drive pin in the fully inserted position between the prongs is effected by a pair of spaced apart circumferential interrupted grooves on the pin receiving projections on inner surfaces of the rivet prongs.

  • Patent number: 4824003
Abstract: An indirect firing fastener driving tool is provided including a barrel (51), a piston (6) sliding in the barrel for driving a fastener (3) housed in a fastener guide (7). Between the barrel (51) and the fastener guide (7) are disposed a rigid ring (22) and a resilient ring (24). Inside the resilient ring (24) is disposed a rigid ring (27) for limiting the stroke of the ring (22) intended to be received in a recess (25) provided at the rear part of the fastener guide (7). The head (14) of the piston is of a truncated cone shape and may cooperate with a bore (23) of corresponding shape in the rigid ring (22). The rings serve as absorber for the piston (6) whose stroke is thus controlled.

  • Patent number: 4819303
Abstract: An article injection molded from a thermoplastic material, e.g., a polypropylene or acetal polymer, for use as a belt loop stay. A first strip is provided at each end with a flange. When unstressed, the first strip is straight, except for the flanges. A second strip, which is thinner so as to be more flexible, is joined integrally to the flanges, so as to form a closed loop. When unstressed, the second strip is bowed toward the first strip, between the flanges. The first strip has a stiffening rib, which stiffens the first strip against flexing on lateral axes. The second strip has several stiffening ribs, which stiffen the second strip against flexing on longitudinal axes but permit the second strip to flex on lateral axes. Beveled edges on the first strip facilitate insertion of a belt from either side of the first strip.

  • Patent number: 4810144
Abstract: A tube connector comprising a first member and a second member, each member being made from a sheet metal stamping. Each member includes an annular portion, a tubular barrel, and plural legs. The tubular barrel extends from an inner periphery of the annular portion. The legs extend outwardly from the annular portion and are adapted to flex axially so as to facilitate insertion of such member into the tube through one end of the tube. The legs have sharp edges tending to dig aggressively into an inner wall of the tube so as to resist withdrawal and rotation of such member. The tubular barrel of the first member fits within and extends through the tubular barrel of the second member and is crimped at one end so as to secure the tubular barrel of the second member bears at one end agains the annular portion of the first member. The tubular barrel of the first member is internally threaded and consequently deformed so as to fit tightly within the tubular barrel of the second member.
