    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determination of a quality property of a piece of meat. A light reflection measurement probe is inserted into a muscle of the piece of meat, while the muscle is undergoing the conversion process from living tissue in a newly slaughtered animal to cooled edible meat. The light reflectivity of the muscle is measured by means of a probe in several, different wavelengths or wavelength bands. The probe remains in the muscle for a period of time after this measurement series, while the conversion process in the muscle is proceeding. The light reflectivity of the muscle is measured again in the same wavelengths. The measurement data, possibly after processing, are inserted in an algorithm which expresses the quality property on the basis of changes between the data of the measurement series, and the quality property is automatically calculated in a calculation unit. The probe is removed from the muscle.

    Abstract: A delivery system for dispensing controlled amounts of liquid or powder has two slidingly engaged parts which are held together as a single unit. The system is particularly useful for delivering powdered solidifying agents to closed medical waste containment systems. Because medical waste container lids include different sized ports, including relatively large diameter pour spouts and relatively small diameter ortho ports, the delivery system is provided with means for selectively coupling to either pour spouts or ortho ports, vastly increasing the adaptability of the delivery system to given container lids loosed by pushing one of the two parts toward the other until a valve plug in the upper part of the system is received within an aperture of a valve seal membrane in the lower part of the system. The system is opened by pulling one part of the system away from the other using the sliding engagement means so that the valve plug exits the aperture in the valve seal membrane.

The faceplate includes a wafer of an adhesive skin barrier material and a flexible plastic coupling ring (for detachably coupling the faceplate to an ostomy pouch having a mating ring), and is distinguished by the mounting flange of the coupling ring being embedded within the faceplate. The faceplate is made by a convergence of in-line processes taking place simultaneously with an injection/compression molding operation for the skin barrier wafer as disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 5,716,475, thereby eliminating or greatly reducing the assembly labor for the various process steps plus the handling, storing and transferring steps commonly associated with the manufacture of ostomy faceplate assemblies.
