Abstract: A method for transparently handling messages originating from local shared memory and from an external source. A device driver allows the local sender to identify and wake up a waiting receiver task thread, simulating a packet arrival hardware interrupt. Upon awakening, the receiver task thread examines both shared memory and hardware message queues. The method can use a software routine that simulates handling of an occurrence of a hardware interrupt. The method invokes a local notify system service module that passes a window number identifying a receiving task. The method invokes a wake thread module that passes awakens a thread associated with the window number, and examines the shared memory buffer for receipt of the local source message. The method then copies the local source message from the shared memory buffer to the receiving task.

Abstract: A sampling device for detecting airborne particles has two parallel substantially identical intake passages. Each intake passage, in close proximity to the other, and has an inlet, a sampling filter intersecting the passage, means for drawing ambient air through the inlet, and sampling filter. The sampling filter is mounted on a filter magazine that has a plurality of sampling filters. A motor is provided for sequentially moving successive sampling filters on the magazine into the air flow. The sampling device accordingly captures two substantially identical samples from the parallel intake passages.
Abstract: Polyphenylene sulphide-based compositions essentially containing 60 to 99.5% by weight of polyphenylene sulphide and 0.5 to 40% by weight of a combination (C) containing a compound (C1) chosen from olefinic elastomers containing epoxy groups and a compound (C2) chosen from crosslinking agents containing functional groups which are reactive towards the epoxy groups of the compound (C1) and are chosen from amino, hydroxyl, carboxyl and carboxylic acid anhydride groups. They are obtained by melt-blending polyphenylene sulphide with each of the compounds (C1) and (C2) of the combination (C) successively and in any order.
Abstract: A peptide compound having the sequence Lys-Pro-Ser-Ser-Pro-Pro-Glu-Glu [SEQ ID NO:2] or a substitution variant, addition variant or other chemical derivative thereof inhibits cell invasion, endothelial tube formation or angiogenesis in vitro. A number of substitution variants and addition variants of this peptide, preferably capped at the N- and C-termini, as well as peptidomimetic derivatives, are useful for treating diseases and conditions mediated by undesired and uncontrolled cell invasion and/or angiogenesis. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising the above peptides and derivatives are administered to subjects in need of such treatment in a dosage sufficient to inhibit invasion and/or angiogenesis . The disclosed compositions and methods are particularly useful for suppressing the growth and metastasis of tumors.
Abstract: Superantigens, including Staphylococcal enterotoxins streptococcal pyrogenic exotoxins (SpE's), biologically active fragments and homologues thereof and fission proteins of the native superantigens, homologues and fragments, are useful agents for killing tumor cells, enhancing antitumor immunity and for treating tumors in a tumor-bearing subject. In particular, a subject having a tumor is treated with a tumoricidally effective amount of a superantigen, such as a SE or SpE, or a biologically active homologue thereof, fusion protein thereof or a fusion protein of the homologue. These agents stimulate T cells, leading to increased antitumor immunity and killing of tumor cells.
Abstract: The compilation of a high-level software-based description of an algorithm into efficient digital hardware implementation(s) is addressed. This is done through the definition of new semantics for software constructs with respect to hardware implementations. This approach allows a designer to work at a high level of abstraction, while the semantic model can be used to infer the resulting hardware implementation. These semantics are interpreted through the use of a compilation tool that analyzes the software description to generate a control and data flow graph. This graph is then the intermediate format used for optimizations, transformations and annotations. The resulting graph is then translated to either a register transfer level or a netlist-level description of the hardware implementation.

Abstract: A pair of metal shears has two blades, two handles, a tag and a locking lever. The blades are pivotally connected to each other with a first pivot pin. The handles are pivotally connected to each other with a second pivot pin. Each handle is pivotally connected to one of the blade with a third pivot pin. The tag is attached to one of the handles to show information of the pair of metal shears. The locking lever is pivotally attached to one of the handles to engage with the other handle. With such an attached tag, the information or instructions about the metal shears can be clearly shown on the tag.
Abstract: The present invention describes (1) an immortal cell line derived from grouper and a method for establishing the cell line; (2) methods for mass producing and purifying aquatic viruses using the immortal cell line from grouper; (3) an anti-NNV antibody and a method for producing the anti-NNV antibody; and (4) a vaccine of NNV and a method for protecting fish against NNV infection. The present immortal cell line is derived from the grouper and is susceptible to the viral families of Birnaviridae such as Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis Virus (IPNV); Herpesviridae such as Eel Herpes Virus Formosa (EHVF); Reoviridae such as Hard Clam Reovirus (HCRV); and Nodaviridae such as Nervous Necrosis Virus (NNV).
Abstract: A lock assembly has an outer cap, an inner cap, three latch devices and a transmitting device. The latch devices are mounted between the outer cap and the inner cap, and each has a cylinder and a bolt. An actuating shaft is connected to the first cylinder, and an inner handle is connected to the actuating shaft at one end of the actuating shaft corresponding to the inner cap. The transmitting device is connected to the cylinders of the latch devices to actuate the cylinders to an unlocked condition simultaneously. Accordingly, when the inner handle is rotated, the cylinders of the latch devices will be simultaneously unlocked.

Abstract: A solid state fermentation (SSF) method is provided which is effective for both small- and large-scale fungal cultivation. Also provided is SSF media for fungal cultivation. The media preferably contains a carbon source and nitrogen source to provide a carbon to nitrogen ratio of about 5:1 to about 25:1 by weight. The media may also contain a vitamin and an inorganic substance. A preferred SSF medium contains malt extract, yeast extract, peptone, glucose, water, solid base, and calcium carbonate or gypsum. Before propagating fungal mycelia in the SSF medium, the mycelia may be pre-cultivated in a solid culture medium and then in a liquid medium. Although the SSF method can be used in growing most fungi, preferred fungi include Cordyceps sinensis, Ganoderma lucidum, Antrodia camphorata, Trametes versicolor, and Agaricus blazei. The SSF method not only produces high yield of fungi, but also stimulates the production of fungal metabolites, particularly the kinds with pharmaceutical and medicinal activities.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of making pourable, plastic-bound explosive charges or rocket propellants, to which a metal powder having essentially spherically shaped grains is added.
To avoid an increase in the viscosity of the explosive charge or the rocket propellant through polar groups attached to the surface of the metal powder, it is suggested according to the invention that the polar groups of the metal powder be saturated with SiR3 groups (Si=silane; R=organic residue) before the metal powder is added to the explosive mixture. As a result, the polar groups can no longer react with the isocyanates of the explosive charge or the rocket propellant and the specific surface of the respective metal powder, as well as the viscosity of the charges, is reduced.

Abstract: A luminous pedal for a bicycle has a body with an I-like frame formed therein. An axle hole is longitudinally defined through the frame. An end cover is assembled at the front end and has a second hole in alignment with the axle hole. An axle has a head extending out from the second hole. A plurality of permanent magnets is circumferentially provided thereon and arranged N-pole by S-pole alternately. A coil seat with a coil is secured in the chamber. The permanent magnets are received in the coil seat. Two luminous plates is respectively secured at the side parts of the body and each have a plurality of luminous elements and electrically connected with the coil by a wire so that when the pedal is operated by a user, current is generated to light the luminous elements.
Abstract: The present invention provides stable galactose injection solutions, which contain 1 to 50% by weight of galactose, 0.01 to 1 M of a buffer solution, and 0.01 to 5% of an antioxidant. The preferred buffer solution is citrate buffer. The preferred anti-oxidant is sodium bisulfite. The galactose injection solution of the present invention has a pH between 4.0 and 9.0 and is stable at 80° C. for at least 2 weeks.
Abstract: A heat dissipating device has a conductor holder and a heat conductor. The conductor holder is securely attached to the CPU base and has a through hole. The heat conductor is securely connected to the through hole in the conductor holder and contacts with the CPU. The heat conductor comprises multiple heat conductive elements made of a material with good heat conductivity. One end of the heat conductive elements are twisted together to form a bound section on the first end of the heat conductor. The other end of each heat conductive element is far away from the other element so as to form an expansion section on a second end of the heat conductor. In such an arrangement, the heat generated by the CPU can be efficiently dissipated from the expansion section of the heat conductor.

A protection cap is securely attached to a bottom of the second steel plate and a distal edge of the protection cap is securely connected to an outer face of the body. Abstract: An engine starter for a reversible engine includes a drive device rotatably mounted on the reversible engine. The drive device includes a flywheel connected to a motor and a positioning seat selectively attaching the flywheel to the reversible engine. The positioning seat releases from the reversible engine when the reversible engine is started. An ignition device is adapted to be connected to the reversible engine. The ignition device includes a rotor rotated with the reversible engine. A sense member is mounted on an outer periphery of the rotor and a magnetic sensor is separately mounted in close proximity to the sense member and corresponding to the sense member. The sense member is adapted to make the magnetic sensor providing an ignition signal to a spark plug that is mounted on the reversible engine when the rotor rotates.
Abstract: An adjustable keyboard tray is composed of a sliding base (10), a connecting arm (20), a limit link (25), a drive assembly (30), a keyboard support (40) and a locking device (50). The connecting arm (20) is pivotally attached to the sliding base (10) and the keyboard support (40) at two ends respectively, wherein the limit link (25) and the drive assembly (30) are movably pivoted on one end of the connecting arm (20). The locking device (50) directly controls the drive assembly (30) to release/compress the limit link (25) and then to unlock/lock the connecting arm (20) by rotating an eccentric cam (53). When the connecting arm (20) is unlocked, the angle and height of the keyboard support (40) are simultaneously adjustable.
Abstract: A frame for an electric scooter has a front half-frame, a rear half-frame and at least one locking device. The rear half-frame is detachably connected to the front half-frame with at least one locking device. Each locking device has a locking plate, an arm and a pin. The locking plate is secured to one of the frame halves, and the arm and the pin are mounted on the other half-frame. The pin is retractably mounted the half-frame and has one end inserted into a bore defined in the locking plate. The arm is pivotally attached to the half-frame to pull the pin to disengage from the bore when the arm pivots relative to the half-frame. Accordingly, the front half-frame can be detached from the rear half-frame. To package, store or transport the electric scooter with the separable frame is more convenient.
