  • Patent number: 5366308
Abstract: The present invention provides a machine for automating the transferral and application of hot asphalt material to roof surfaces. The machine includes a number of reels attached to an outer shell contained on a cart. Each reel contains roughly five-hundred feet of hose and attaches to one of two types of hand-held applicator devices. An electric generator, a storage tank assembly, and a pump assembly are contained within the outer shell. The combination of heating elements disposed within the storage tank and heating wires wrapped around the inner tube members of the hoses keeps the asphalt material in a liquified form during operation of the device. Compared to other conventional methods and apparatus, the present device greatly enhances the safety and efficiency associated with hot asphalt roofing.

  • Patent number: 5340362
Abstract: An intramedullary bone prosthesis to be rigidly cemented into position in the femur, and also applicable to total knee and shoulder replacement operations, is provided as an improved surgical technique. The prosthesis is composed of a femoral head base, a femoral head post, a long femoral stem, a cement canal along its longitudinal axis, a spacer, a collar, and a distal restrictor. The prosthesis is placed into the prepared medullary canal. With collar in position, a bone cement injector is readily threaded on to the proximal portion of the cement canal. Cement is injected and subsequently travels down through the canal, through the spacer, and eventually exits openings at the bottom of the spacer. The distal restrictor plug halts downward cement travel, thus initiating an upward, retrograde filling of the void in between the prosthesis and the cancellous bone wall. The cement reaches the collar or cement restrictor, thus proximally dislodging all air bubbles, blood, and blood products.

  • Patent number: 5335578
Abstract: The present invention provides a retrofitting shell feeding attachment for shotgun shell reloading machines. The invention includes a declined tray held by a forked tray support, a funnel tube member leading from a discharge port located in the tray, and a feed tube leading from the funnel tube member and into a plunger block device. The plunger block device uses a linkage mechanism joined to a shell sliding member to automatically translate the vertical reciprocating motion of a plate member on the machine into sequential horizontal motions for sliding the shells discharging from the feed tube into proper loading position underneath the plate member.

  • Patent number: 5320138
Abstract: The invention herein described relates to devices used to test the integrity of fire sprinkler systems. The present device incorporates a control panel which allows a single operator to electrically activate a test valve within a specific sprinkler network. The interval between the initiation of water flow and the resulting alarm signal is timed by the operator using the control panel. The operator can test any of the building's sprinkler networks simply by adjusting a rotary switch located on the control panel. In this manner, the time and expense associated with sprinkler testing may be greatly reduced by having a single operator perform dependable tests of the entire automatic sprinkler system from one location.

  • Patent number: 5314189
Abstract: A chess set is provided which has a plurality of playable pieces and a dimensional chess board. These pieces consist of, chess men and the pawns each having a structure comprising of channel like lines at the base and a geometric band inscribed on the front of each piece. The geometric bands identify the pieces into groups with matching bands. The channel like lines that extend around all sides of the playable pieces indicate the point value of each chess piece and pawn. The structure of the chess pieces also includes a cavity at the base with an opening that a particular pawn fits exactly inside of identifying a visual relationship between them with the chess piece becoming the parent piece of the pawn. A pawn that reaches the eighth rank becomes a replication of its parent piece with the exception of the king's pawn which can become any piece except another king. The chess pieces have geometrically shaped tops that indicate the movement potential of each piece when it is engaged in play.

  • Patent number: 5297121
Abstract: An eccentrically designed watch is provided wherein the center of rotation of a watch is not located at the center of the watch face and is shifted vertically upwardly. The eccentricity is not observed by the user. A watch is provided in which the eccentricity factor is achieved in such a way to minimize working hours (only visual) eight (8) to four (4) hours and maximize four (4) to eight (8) non-working hours. Increments and actual numbers on the face of the watch increases in size from twelve (12) to six (6) hours and decreases from six (6) to twelve (12) hours to aid this effect.

  • Patent number: 5295587
Abstract: Herein described is a device for organizing earrings and brooches. The device differs from conventional jewelry boxes in that it provides a greater surface area over which to spread the stored jewelry items. The device comprises a strip of fabric folded to form a front layer and a rear layer, at least one strip of eyelet lace joined to the fabric, and means for suspending the organizing device onto another object. The stems of earrings pierce either the front layer or rear layer of fabric, and the backs are attached in between the layers. In the event that the backs of the earrings fall, a closed bottom fold between the layers of fabric catches the backs and thereby prevents them from being lost. Earrings with clips or wire hoops are readily attached to the strip or strips of eyelet lace. In the preferred embodiment, a vinyl hanger serves as the means for suspending the device onto another object.
