    Abstract: This invention relates to improved crosslinking systems for polymeric dispersions and solutions having suitability for coatings, adhesives and use in many other applications. These systems are based upon crosslinkable polymers having a plurality of activated keto methylene groups, e.g., a beta diketone such as an acetoacetate or a keto cyano methylene functional groups and a crosslinkable component comprising an aldimine. A sufficient amount of the aldimine curing agent is used to effect reaction with the polymer containing the activated keto methylene groups and cure thereof. The improvement in the crosslinking system resides in the utilization of a monoaldimine having only one aldimine group and no other methylene reactive group as a crosslinking agent. Another improvement variation to that previously suggested comprises a redispersible polymer(s) containing activated methylene functionality and combined with the monoaldimine and the use of heterocyclic aldimine.

    Abstract: Nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide are removed from the exhaust of an internal combustion engine which operates on a methane-containing fuel by reacting the carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and oxygen in the exhaust gas with methane in the presence of a catalyst comprising a crystalline zeolite having a silicon to aluminum ratio of equal to or greater than about 2.5 which is exchanged with a cation selected from the group consisting of cobalt, nickel, iron, chromium, rhodium, gallium, and manganese.     Abstract: This invention relates to an improved process for storing and transporting toluenediamine, particularly for long term storage or storage in large containers, e.g., shipboard containers. The improvement in the process resides in substantially reducing the melting or freezing point of anhydrous toluenediamine obtained by the fractional distillation of a reaction product generated by the hydrogenation of dinitrotoluene. Such melting point reduction is accomplished by adding water in an amount of from 5 to 15% by weight of the toluenediamine and mixing therein for storage and transport. Preferably the level of water introduced to the anhydrous toluenediamine is from about 7 to 10% by weight.

    Abstract: This invention pertains to an improved process for the hydrogenation of acetylenic compounds prepared by the condensation of ketones or aldehydes with acetylene wherein the acetylenic compounds are contacted with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst under conditions for effecting hydrogenation. The improvement in the process resides in utilizing a novel cocatalyst system for hydrogenating the acetylenic compounds to paraffins. The cocatalyst converts the inhibiting impurity in the feed to a noninhibiting species and comprises palladium and platinum, typically in a ratio of from 1 to 40 weight parts palladium per weight part platinum.

    Abstract: Carbon steel substrates are protected from corrosive environments by a coating of nonconductive poly(aniline) which has been chemically prepared and cast onto the substrate from solution. The coating can also include other polymers which are miscible with the poly(aniline) but do not protonate it so as to make it conductive. Such polymers can include polyimides, epoxies, and urethane linked diisocyanates, among others. In these blends, a weight composition of at least 5% poly(aniline) to the other polymer is preferred. Overall, the nonconductive form of polyaniline has been found to be more effective in this service than the conductive form. Air oxidation of the poly(aniline) coating before exposure to a corrosive environment enhances the benefits.

    Abstract: This invention relates to an improved process for the preparation of 3-aminopropanol and a primary amine by reacting a cyanoethyl ketoxime with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst to generate the primary amine and aminopropanol. The sequence of reactions to form the aminopropanol and primary amine involves the reaction of hydroxylamine with a ketone to generate a ketoxime followed by reaction of acrylonitrile with the ketoxime to generate a cyanoethyl ketoxime followed by complete hydrogenation of the cyanoethyl ketoxime in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst to generate the primary amine and aminopropanol. The significant advantage associated with this process is the high degree of selectivity to 3-aminopropanol and the primary amine.

    Abstract: An integrated cryogenic air separation unit power cycle system is disclosed wherein the air separation unit (ASU) is operated at elevated pressure to produce moderate pressure nitrogen. The integrated cycle combines a gasification section wherein a carbon source, e.g., coal is converted to fuel and combusted in a combustion zone. The combustion gases are supplemented with nitrogen from the air separation unit and expanded in a turbine. Air to the cryogenic air separation unit is supplied via a compressor independent of the compressor used to supply air to the combustion zone used for combusting the fuel gas generated in the gasifier system.
