  • Patent number: 4192635
Abstract: The present apparatus cools and granulates thermoplastic strands. For this purpose two cooling chutes are arranged in mirror symmetric, back to back fashion between the strand ejecting nozzles and the input gap between two feeding rollers which supply the strands to a cutting roller. The upper ends of the chutes receive the strands from two sets of nozzles such as extruder nozzles. The nozzles in one set are arranged in a row staggered relative to the nozzles in the other set so that the strands emerging from one set of nozzles fit into the spaces between the strands emerging from the other set of nozzles when the strands enter into the cutter.

  • Patent number: 4063959
Abstract: A continuously operating centrifuge for producing a high purity sugar or sugar syrup, has an acceleration bell or cone which acts as a preliminary separator, and a centrifugal basket, the lower portion of which acts as a washing stage. A damming ring is spaced from the upper edge of the basket to form with said upper edge a sugar exit gap. A discharge ring is arranged to cooperate with the damming ring. The discharge ring rotates with the basket, but about an axis extending at an angle relative to the rotational axis of the basket, whereby the actual sugar exit is confined to a predetermined zone along said sugar exit gap. A flow channel cooperates with said zone to receive the sugar without damage to the sugar crystals.

  • Patent number: 4053839
Abstract: A frequency multiplying system and method in which a time varying analog input signal is sampled and stored in a memory matrix at a predetermined rate. The signal thus stored is read out from the memory matrix at a different rate and reconstructed into a time varying analog signal. The storage rates and readout rates are controlled by a command signal generator including a master run-up generator run up at a first run-up rate and reset by the fundamental input frequency, the highest level at the output of the run-up generator being continually stored in a memory circuit. Slave run-up generators which cycle at frequencies corresponding to the storage and reading-out of the sampled information are reset upon coincidence of their levels with the level in the memory connected to the master run-up generator. The command signal generator may be in either digital or analog form employing either counters or integrators as run-up generators. The analog input signal may be processed by either digital or analog means.

  • Patent number: 4019378
Abstract: This hydraulic chucking head, especially for testing machines wherein the test sample must be held without play in the direction of load application, includes at least two test sample holding pistons movable along a common axis toward each other and toward a central axis through the chucking head. These pistons are hollow inside and movable in respective cylinders in the housing with a certain initial play. The piston walls or jackets are elastically yielding when the pressure inside the piston is increased, whereby the test sample is held and simultaneously said play is removed since the piston walls are pressed against the respective cylinder bores. Preferably a non-metallic coating is provided between the piston walls and the cylinder bores which coating acts as a sealing and reduces friction.

  • Patent number: 3959083
Abstract: In the present method the bulk material, especially coke, is maintained at a substantially constant level on a substantially horizontal support surface. The quenching liquid is permitted to flow uniformly through the bulk material for about 45 to 90 seconds until the vapor temperature is cooled down to at least 400.degree.C. The quantity of the quenching liquid which is uniformly distributed over the bulk material is selected so that it evaporates substantially completely, except for a small moisture content in the quenched material. The present bulk material quenching apparatus has a fireproof container resting on a supporting box, the top of which is a grid structure which simultaneously forms a permeable bottom for the quenching container which is provided with a tightly closing cover. A pipe conduit is connected to the cover which has a plurality of conduit outlet openings directed into the container. The box on which the container rests has at least one hinged side wall.

  • Patent number: 3959506
Abstract: The present apparatus for skinning or peeling of produce comprises a rotatably mounted pressure vessel having a cover operable from within the vessel for sealing the vessel. The cover is pressure operated and permitted to fall open under the force of gravity upon pressure release. A pivoted latching pawl is provided in the pressure vessel for engaging the cover to hold it open. The pawl is also gravity operated to latch the cover in an open position. In the process for skinning or peeling produce, the pressure vessel is loaded with the produce, sealed and steam is introduced therein to rapidly increase the pressure and temperature within the vessel sufficiently so that a layer under the skin of the produce will come to a boil in response to pressure release. The pressure is maintained for a given period until the layer of the produce under its skin is sufficiently heated.

  • Patent number: 3955489
Abstract: A roasted cocoa mass or blend is produced in a continuous process by crushing raw cocoa beans after dehulling to form a more or less liquid mass which is moved as a thin layer over and in contact with a smooth roasting surface heated to between 110.degree.C and 150.degree.C under atmospheric or reduced pressure. The thin layer liquid cocoa mass is moved over said roasting surface for not more than 12 minutes and preferably for a shorter time, whereupon it is rapidly cooled, preferably also in a thin layer form, to 80.degree.C or less. The smooth surface is preferably the inner surface of a hollow cylinder, especially of a so called thin layer vaporizer. Prior and preferably also during the roasting the cocoa mass is subjected to a degassification in a flow of air or water vapor, preferably a counter-current flow. The first degassing takes place at a temperature of 95.degree.C at the most and at a reduced pressure of 0.5 kg/cm.sup.2 at the most. A homogenizing step may precede the roasting step.

  • Patent number: 3945088
Abstract: The present spacer strips are used to form, for example, electrically heated mats, whereby the strips hold the elongated heating elements in a fixed position relative to each other. For this purpose the strips are provided with grooves into which the elements are inserted with a press-fit and preferably with an elastically yielding press-fit.
