  • Patent number: 4890558
Abstract: An anchor spreader having a frame which mounts a head assembly for vertical movement between a raised travel position and a lowered operative position and with the head assembly having spreader members which can be positioned immediately above a tie and inwardly of portions of rail-mounted anchors extending above the tie. The spreader members can be moved apart to shift the rail-mounted anchors along the rail away from the tie to achieve the anchor spreading. Positive clamp structure securely holds the head assembly in position longitudinally of the rail whereby the head assembly can remain in fixed position regardless of the reaction to forces exerted in spreading one or more rail mounted anchors.

  • Patent number: 4889242
Abstract: In a device for testing and sorting electronic components, and more particularly integrated circuit chips, the untested components are arranged in parallel magazine channels, which are arranged on a gradient, of an input magazine. The tested components are collected in an output magazine set up in the same way. The magazines are to be suitable, more particularly, for taking up CC (chip carrier) components. These components have a free rear surface upon which they can slip in the magazine channels arranged on a gradient. The magazines consist of a flat base plate (15), upon which guide rails, which are T-shaped in cross section, are mounted in such a way that they limit the magazine channels at the side and at the top, the guide rails being connected with each other to form a block which, as a whole, is capable of being exchanged. The components are tested in a channel, their connecting contacts being connected up with corresponding test contacts.

  • Patent number: 4888493
Abstract: A speed trimming integrated drive generator 18 includes a differential 24 having inputs coupled to a prime mover 20 and to a wild frequency generator 48, the output thereof being coupled to a main generator 14. In order to control main generator speed, and thus the frequency of the power generated by the main generator 14, resistive load management for the wild frequency generator 48 is utilized. Particularly, a generator control unit 58, responsive to the main generator frequency, selectively couples resistive loads 56 to an output 52 of the wild frequency generator 48 to provide trimming power. Fine tuning of the trimming power is provided by controlling the output voltage from the wild frequency generator 48 responsive to sensed frequency.

  • Patent number: 4884527
Abstract: A self-contained disposable animal commode is disclosed having a container with an access opening formed therein. The container includes a base portion defining a box-like receptacle having an open top and a cover portion cooperating with the base portion to define a substantially entirely enclosed space. The base portion of the container is adapted to support an animal for defecation and urination into a loose material and the cover portion of the container is movable from a collapsed position substantially conforming to the base portion to an expanded position. The container thus defines a substantially entirely enclosed space which can be collapsed for shipping and expanded for use. Additionally, the expanded position causes the cover portion to be positioned to comfortably receive the animal with the access opening positioned for ingress and egress of the animal therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4884806
Abstract: A method of playing a bowling game in which players are allowed at least one ball to deliver during a turn of play. A given trajectory is selected for a ball to follow down a lane. A player is required to deliver at least one ball down the lane in an attempt to duplicate the given trajectory. The degree to which the player's delivered ball duplicates the given trajectory is determined. A score is awarded to the player which is a function of the degree to which the player's ball duplicated the given trajectory.

  • Patent number: 4883474
Abstract: A thoracic catheter is provided with a distal end and a proximal end. The catheter is formed by a tube of flexible material having at least one radial opening at the distal end for draining a body cavity. The proximal end of the tube has a stiffened and sharpened portion whereby pressure applied to the stiffened proximal end from inside the body cavity leads the catheter outwardly through body tissue whereupon the sharpened stiffened proximal end can be severed and the catheter left in situ. The stiffened end is a rigid rod that extends outward of the proximal end of the tube and terminates in the tube short of a cut-off point whereby the tube is severed and the rod and severed proximal end portion is disposed of. The rigid rod may extend a substantial distance inside the tube and be shapable into a grippable shape to assist the user in maneuvering the rod and tube into and through a desired path in the surgical site.

  • Patent number: 4882513
Abstract: The effects of operational loading on a permanent magnet generator of the type having first and second permanent magnet assemblies 28, 30 mounted on a shaft 26, and movable relative to each other is eliminated by rotatably mounting each of the assemblies 28, 30 for rotation relative to the shaft 26, as well as to each other, and connecting them to the shaft by equal, but oppositely pitched helical spline connections 50, 52, 58, 60. Axial movement of the shaft 26 will then cause equal, but opposite relative movement of the permanent magnet assemblies 28, 30, so that the forces resisting movement of one such assembly act to encourage movement of the other, thereby balancing out said forces.

  • Patent number: RE33119
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for determining the temperature to which a thermistor is exposed. A capacitor is charged through a reference resistor and the length of time required to charge the capacitor to a predetermined level is measured to obtain a reference charge time. The capacitor is discharged, and then charged through the thermistor and the length of time required to charge the capacitor to the predetermined level through the thermistor is measured to obtain a temperature charge time. The temperature to which the thermistor is exposed is determined by computing the difference between the reference charge time and the temperature charge time divided by the sum of the times.
