  • Patent number: 8336609
Abstract: A passenger aircraft includes a cabin subdivided into a plurality of cabin zones supplied with feed air from respective supply lines, a plurality of temperature sensors, and an electronic control unit coupled to the plurality of temperature sensors. The plurality of temperature sensors measures a plurality of individual ambient temperature values associated with different locations in at least one of the plurality of cabin zones. The electronic control unit derives a derived ambient temperature value for the at least one cabin zone from the plurality of individual ambient temperature values. The electronic control unit then controls a temperature of the feed air supplied to the at least one cabin zone based on the difference between the derived ambient temperature value and a room temperature target value for the at least one cabin zone.

  • Patent number: 8341565
Abstract: A task-based multi-process design synthesis methodology is reproducible, and relies on a plurality of child processes to assist a parent process in performing optimizations on an integrated circuit design. Objects from an integrated circuit design are grouped into subsets and assigned to child processes, with each child process performing a transform on each of the objects in the subset assigned to that child process and determining which of the objects in the subset are candidate objects for which performance of the transform has been successful. Each child process also undoes the transform performed for each object such that the same initial state of the integrated circuit design is used to perform each transform. In addition, the parent process tracks the results of performing the transform by each child process, and applies successful transforms in a controlled sequence.

  • Patent number: 8338086
Abstract: A method and system for patterning a substrate using a radiation-sensitive material is described. The method and system include forming a layer of radiation-sensitive material on a substrate, exposing the layer of radiation-sensitive material to a pattern of radiation, and then performing a post-exposure bake following the exposing. The imaged layer of radiation-sensitive material is then positive-tone developed to remove a region having high radiation exposure to form radiation-sensitive material lines. An exposure gradient within the radiation-sensitive material lines is then removed, followed by slimming the radiation-sensitive material lines.

  • Patent number: 8333078
Abstract: In a method for controlling an aircraft air conditioning system, a correlation is established between a plurality of values of a process air mass flow supplied to an air conditioning unit of the aircraft air conditioning system and the fuel consumption of the aircraft. A correlation is also established between a plurality of values of an ambient air mass flow which is used to cool the process air mass flow supplied to the air conditioning unit of the aircraft air conditioning system and the fuel consumption of the aircraft. The process air mass flow and the ambient air mass flow are controlled in dependence on a predetermined cooling capacity of the aircraft air conditioning system such that the fuel consumption of the aircraft is minimized.

  • Patent number: 8333166
Abstract: Plasma treatment systems and methods for distributing RF energy to electrodes in a plasma treatment system. The plasma treatment system includes power and ground busses, positive and negative phase primary electrode busses, and positive and negative phase secondary electrode busses. The power and ground busses are coupled to the secondary electrode busses by isolation transformers so that the negative phase secondary electrode buss is provided with an RF signal that is 180 degrees out of phase with the RF signal supplied to the positive phase secondary electrode buss. The secondary electrode busses are coupled to respective positive and negative phase primary electrode busses by capacitors. The primary electrode busses are each coupled to electrodes in the vacuum chamber. Load coils coupling the primary electrode busses to an RF ground may cooperative with the capacitors to adjust the input impedance at the power buss.

  • Patent number: RE43881
Abstract: A laser treatment device and process with controlled cooling. The device contains a cooling element with high heat conduction properties, which is transparent to the laser beam. A surface of the cooling element is held in contact with the tissue being treated while at least one other surface of the cooling element is cooled by the evaporation of a cryogenic fluid. The cooling is coordinated with the application of the laser beam so as to control the temperatures of all affected layers of tissues. In a preferred embodiment useful for removal of wrinkles and spider veins, the cooling element is a sapphire plate. A cryogenic spray cools the top surface of the plate and the bottom surface of the plate is in contact with the skin. In preferred embodiments the wavelength of the laser beam is chosen so that absorption in targeted tissue is low enough so that substantial absorption occurs throughout the targeted tissue. In a preferred embodiment for treating large spider veins with diameters in the range of 1.
