  • Patent number: 4244639
Abstract: An improved measuring rule for measuring the pupillary distance between a person's eyes is provided wherein a disc is both rotatably and slidably supported on an index rule, the disc being similarly indexed. By positioning the disc over the pupil of an eye while the person is wearing a pair of lens-receiving frames, the disc provides measurement of the required lens blank size necessary for those frames simultaneously with the measurement of the pupillary distance. The disc also facilitates the measurement for a bifocal lens and also indicates any required vertical height adjustment caused by an optical abnormality.

  • Patent number: 4238063
Abstract: An elongated transport container for skis and the like is provided wherein upper and lower matched halves are pivotally connected to form a box-like enclosure. The lower half of the enclosure supports a pair of clamping bars at either end and a pair of skis may be placed on these bars in edge-to-edge relation. The upper half of the container has a pair of matching clamping bars secured at either end, and the clamping bars are positioned so that the closing of the container will clamp the pairs of bars together so as to frictionally lock the skis therebetween. The clamping bars also support mounting brackets for ski poles and the like.

  • Patent number: 4206839
Abstract: Lift apparatus is adapted for raising and lowering portable grain elevators and the like and includes both a power lift mechanism and an alternative manual lift mechanism. It also includes an upper limit stop for limiting the height to which the power lift mechanism can raise the elevator and a tie-down limit stop for tying the raised end of the elevator to an anchoring object for safety in addition to prohibiting the power lift mechanism from operating when the elevator is so anchored. In the disclosed embodiment, an elevator lift apparatus which includes a cable for drawing a front frame member toward a rear frame member to effect raising the rear end of a grain elevator is provided on one end with a power driven winch for drawing the cable to effect lifting, and it is also provided on its opposite end with a manual winch for also drawing the cable to effect lifting.

  • Patent number: 4203308
Abstract: An arrow straightener for testing and straightening bent arrow shafts is provided with a pair of arrow supports, each of which has a bearing surface that is rotatable about an axis normal to a vertical plane through the longitudinal axis of an arrow positioned on the supports to maintain the bearing surface in flat contact relation to the arrow shaft, a press mechanism between the supports for applying a straightening pressure on the arrow shaft, and a deflection indicator with a feeler that extends through the press mechanism into contact with the shaft, the feeler being movable independent of the press but located at a point central to the pressure applying surface. The apparatus also includes a scale, indicator, weighted body, and spacer for testing the spine strength of wooden arrow shafts.

  • Patent number: 4201413
Abstract: An improvement in folding apparatus for expandable top camper bodies includes lifting and supporting apparatus for the top of the camper positioned at the front and rear of the camper body, each of which has a bi-fold panel comprised of two foldable panel sections hinged to each other and to the lateral wall of the camper and the top of the camper. The hinges are spring-loaded to self actuate and push the top upwardly to its expanded position and retain it in that position. The invention also includes resilient side stays having pre-formed crimps to induce folding for guiding the flexible fabric siding of the camper during folding to keep it away from the closure edge between the top and side panels of the camper and to keep it from wrinkling.

  • Patent number: 4201231
Abstract: A pipe holder and bowl cover for a smoker's pipe is comprised of a spherical mass of open-celled spongy plastic foam with a bowl receiving bore provided therein and dimensioned to frictionally secure the bowl cover to the bowl of the pipe. A retaining screen is mounted within the bore so as to contact the upper rim of the pipe bowl when the bowl cover is secured to the bowl thereby preventing the escape of a tobacco or like substance that is placed in the bowl.

  • Patent number: 4189795
Abstract: An improved ball valve for toilet flush tanks for regulating the quantity of water released from a tank in a flush includes a gauged or adjustable water inlet hole at the bottom of the ball valve and an air bleed hole at the top of the ball valve. The water inlet hole at the bottom of the ball valve is adjustable in size for selectively setting the flow rate of water entering the ball valve during a flush action, and thereby determining the time the ball valve remains open to allow flush water to drain from the tank.

  • Patent number: 4189243
Abstract: A mud shearing device for placement in the mud flow line in a well drilling operation includes a series of inner pressure chambers surrounded by concentric outer chambers with jet discharge ports connecting each inner chamber with a respective outer chamber and an inlet aperture connecting each succeeding inner chamber with a preceding outer chamber. The mud flow line is connected to the first inner chamber by a flanged nipple, and mud is pumped under pressure into the first inner chamber and then sheared by discharge in a high velocity jet stream through the discharge ports into the first outer chamber and impinged against the wall surface of the outer chamber. A similar shearing mud flow is repeated through the succeeding series of inner and outer chambers and respective discharge ports to the last outer chamber which is connected by an outlet nipple to a continuation of the mud flow line where the mud continues in a conventional flow circuit in the drilling operation.
