Patent number: 4815295Abstract: A valve actuator system for use above or under water is disclosed wherein at least one gas generator (1, 2) is provided for controlling the system. The gas generator(s) can be actuated by remote control, by use of electric cables or hydro-acoustically without the use of cables. Locking mechanisms may be provided in order to lock the actuators in open and/or closed positions. The locking mechanisms may be actuated by the gas generator(s). Each gas generator is equipped with its own safety system, in that the charge itself is protected by a piston (26), thermal insulation (32) and a burst disc (31). The valve actuator is protected against excessive pressure by a safety shear disc (13, 14) connected with a dead volume (10). Two-way control of actuators is achieved by using a bisected piston system.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1987Date of Patent: March 28, 1989Assignee: A/S Raufoss AmmunisjonsfabrikkerInventor: Henning Narum

Patent number: 4789116Abstract: Landing deck for aircraft, in particular for helicopters, on seagoing vessels and offshore installations, such as platforms. When fuel is leaking from a helicopter after an accident, as for instance an unsuccessful landing, a fire often starts. In order to reduce the combustion intensity and the duration of such a fire continuous grooves or channels (8) are formed in beams of steel or metal, of which the deck is made, in the surface facing upwardly. Thereby fuel which has leaked out will be collected in the grooves or channels. The air supply to the grooves or channels is poorer than the air supply to fuel situated on decks without grooves or channels, and the combustion intensity, therefore, is reduced. Moreover, the combustion takes place on the surface of the liquid, and it is possible to drain a substantial part of the fuel without ignition thereof. Fuel may be collected from the grooves or channels by means of a collecting manifold or gutter.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1987Date of Patent: December 6, 1988Assignee: A/S Raufoss AmmunisjonsfabrikkerInventor: Bard Eftestol

Patent number: 4449456Abstract: A safety device for a projectile, adapted to make a barrier between an ignition charge in the forward end of the projectile and one or more incendiary and/or explosive charges situated behind the ignition charge. The device comprises two discs having concentric apertures therethrough, situated behind the ignition charge. A plug constituting the barrier is situated in the aperture in the foremost disc, and a split ring which is held together by a spring supports the plug, the split ring being supported by the rearmost disc. The plug comprises at least one portion adapted to seal the aperture in the foremost disc when being exposed to pressure developed by firing of the ignition charge prior to arming of the projectile. Arming takes place only when the projectile reaches a rotational velocity sufficient to open the split ring because of the centrifugal forces, whereby these forces exceed the resistance of the spring.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1982Date of Patent: May 22, 1984Assignee: A/S Raufoss AmmunisjonsfabrikkerInventors: Morten Foss, Kaare R. Patent number: 4444112Abstract: Improvements in a multi-capability projectile having a heavy primary penetration element surrounded by a splintering and fragmenting secondary penetration element which extends forwardly of the primary penetration element to form a cavity having a bursting charge therein, the projectile having a nose portion forwardly of that cavity with an ignition charge therein. The rear of the secondary penetration element is stepped inwardly to form a smaller recess which receives and holds the rear end of the primary penetration element. A shoulder adjacent this smaller rearward portion can be formed in accordance with an improved method with an annular groove, according to which the portion of that shoulder radially inwardly of the groove is urged against the side of the primary penetration element to form a rimmed part which secures the same. The annular space surrounding the forward end of the primary penetration element can be filled with an incendiary charge, the bursting charge being located forwardly thereof.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1981Date of Patent: April 24, 1984Assignee: A/S Raufoss AmmunisjonsfabrikkerInventors: Kaare R. Patent number: 4391197Abstract: A smoke cartridge for producing instantaneous smoke, particularly for screening a vehicle. A casing, preferably made of aluminum, has a first elongated compartment in which a plurality of annular smoke elements are stacked one above the other with a common central opening passing through all of them. A second compartment adjacent the first compartment has a discharge composition therein and a mechanism for igniting the same. Patent number: 4353302Abstract: A projectile has a primary penetration element arranged at the rear end, and surrounded by a substantially tube like secondary penetration element, so that in front of the primary penetration element is formed a cavity within the secondary penetration element. The cavity contains a bursting charge or bursting and incendiary charges, ignitable by means of an ignition charge arranged in the nose of the projectile upon impingement against a target. The construction is such that the primary penetration element is positively prevented from moving forwardly into the cavity before the projectile hits a target and the secondary element is substantially fragmented. The projectile gives considerable splinter and fragmentation in lighter to medium targets, while functioning generally as a purely armor piercing projectile against heavy targets.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1980Date of Patent: October 12, 1982Assignee: A/S Raufoss AmmunisjonsfabrikkerInventors: Kaare R. Patent number: 4353301Abstract: A smoke grenade for providing screening. A container has in the lower portion thereof a discharge composition ignited by a primer composition for igniting an ignition/bursting composition which in turn ignites a set of easily ignitable smoke charges, preferably disc shaped smoke charges surrounding the ignition/bursting composition. Ahead of the first charges in the direction of travel of the grenade is a further smoke charge which is compact and hence more slowly ignitable than the first set of charges. A delay booster and a further primer composition ignite this further smoke charge after a delay.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1980Date of Patent: October 12, 1982Assignee: A/S Raufoss AmmunisjonsfabrikkerInventor: Kjell O. Patent number: 4219938Abstract: A method and means for gauging of threads, by use of a gauge roller, for the purpose of detecting possible defects in the thread profile. The gauge roller, having different areas which have the correct profile of parts of the thread groove and depressions between said areas, is mounted on at least one lever for permitting approximately radial movement of the gauge roller. A reference for indicating and/or measuring said movement is established by mounting a reference element in the vicinity of the gauge roller, and movements of the gauge roller caused by defects in the thread are indicated and/or measured relatively to the reference. The reference may be established by use of a roller having the correct profile of the thread, whereby the relative radial and/or axial movement between the gauge roller and the reference roller is indicated and/or measured.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1978Date of Patent: September 2, 1980Assignee: A/S Raufoss AmmunisjonsfabrikkerInventors: Nils C.
