  • Patent number: 8868100
Abstract: A system for preventing noise transmission at the end of a telephone call includes a telephone having a handset and a base unit. The telephone has a proximity sensor configured to detect when the handset is in close proximity to the base unit prior to the handset contacting the base unit. A control element communicates with the proximity sensor and prevents transmission of sound received from the handset when the proximity sensor indicates that the handset is in close proximity to the base unit thereby preventing transmission of noise caused by the handset contacting the base unit.

  • Patent number: 8854942
Abstract: A communication system comprises a plurality of line cards having transceivers coupled to a plurality of subscriber lines. Each line card has at least one active transceiver within the same vectoring group, and each line card also has vector logic capable of cancelling crosstalk induced by an active transceiver that is a member of the vectoring group. Further, the line cards are coupled to one another via a ring connection across which vectoring information is passed from one line card to the next. In the event of a failure of one of the line cards, the failed card is bypassed by the vectoring stream so that the operational line cards can continue crosstalk vectoring operations despite such failure.

  • Patent number: 8855177
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure generally pertain to systems and methods for reducing RF interference in communication systems. A communication system in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure comprises an element management system (EMS) communicating through a network with a plurality of network access devices. The EMS is configured to manage at least one network access device such that the device refrains from communicating data or reduces a data rate within a frequency range of a nearby interferer during time periods when interfering activity of the interferer is increased. Accordingly, the effects of RF interference for signals communicated by the device is reduced and degradation of service is prevented to an extent.

  • Patent number: 8842822
Abstract: A system and method in accordance with a non-limiting aspect minimizes echo return loss in a communications system. The dial tone is broken on an analog telephone line connected to a hybrid circuit having selectable impedance configurations and that interfaces a digital communications circuit and the analog telephone line. A white noise signal as a test call is inserted through the hybrid circuit onto the analog telephone line corresponding to a selected impedance configuration. The returned white noise signal is used for measuring the echo return loss. The test call is dropped. This process is repeated at different impedance configurations to obtain echo return loss measurements at each of the impedance configurations. The optimum impedance setting configuration is determined based on the results and applied to the hybrid circuit and typically set during a running telephone configuration.

  • Patent number: 8837508
Abstract: The present disclosure generally pertains to systems and methods for allocating bonding engines among bonding groups. In one exemplary embodiment, a provision module is configured to allocate bonding engines. When selecting a bonding engine for a new bonding group, the provision module only considers bonding engines residing on access modules that terminate at least one of the communication links of the bonding group. Out of the bonding engines residing on access modules terminating at least one communication link of the bonding group, the provision module selects a bonding engine servicing the least number of external links and assigns the selected bonding engine to the bonding group. The provision module also provisions the access modules terminating the communication links of the bonding group such that the selected bonding engine bonds such communication links during operation.

  • Patent number: 8824467
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure generally pertain to systems and methods for controlling multicast bandwidth. A communication system in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure comprises a network access device (NAD) having bandwidth (BW) expansion logic. The BW expansion logic is configured to automatically calculate the expansion ratio for a multicast stream based on various network parameters, such as layer 1 and 2 information, network packet size, and network transmission rate. Based on the expansion ratio, the BW expansion logic determines the actual transmission rate for transmitting the multicast stream across a subscriber link. The NAD then accepts or rejects join requests based on whether the sum of the current allocated link rate and the actual transmission rate exceed a rate threshold for the link.

  • Patent number: 8823531
Abstract: A system for sensing and indicating orientation of electrical equipment has an orientation sensor and control logic. The control logic is configured to compare predefined data with a sensed orientation of the electrical equipment in order to determine whether the sensed orientation of the equipment is within an acceptable range such that sufficient cooling by a cooling system is likely to occur. If the sensed orientation of the equipment is not within the acceptable range, the control logic transmits a notification signal so that corrective action can occur. As an example, the notification signal may be used to notify a user of the improper orientation. In another example, the notification signal automatically triggers an action that compensates for the improper orientation.

  • Patent number: 8818199
Abstract: A correlation system, such as a correlation optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) system, transmits a correlation sequence, such as an M-sequence, and measures the returns of the correlation sequence over time. The system correlates the transmitted sequence with the returns to provide correlation measurement values that respectively correspond to different distances from the point of transmission. A correlation error compensation element estimates a correlation error floor based on at least one correlation measurement value corresponding to a point along the fiber beyond a finite impulse response (FIR) length from the transmitter. The correlation error compensation element adjusts each correlation measurement value estimate in order to cancel the contribution of the correlation error floor from the measurements to provide compensated measurement values that are substantially free of the effects of the correlation error floor.

  • Patent number: 8774003
Abstract: The present disclosure generally pertains to systems and methods for providing service admission control in telecommunication networks. In one exemplary embodiment, a system comprises a network access control (SAC) element that is coupled to at least one node of a network segment. The SAC element communicates with each network node within the network segment to discover its configuration and capacity. The SAC element also stores information indicative of performance requirements, such as terms of SLAs pertaining to traffic that passes through the network segment. When a new service is to be added, the SAC element receives information indicative of the new service and its requirements, such as the SLA terms for the new service. The SAC element then automatically determines whether the network segment has sufficient capacity to add the new service without violating the SLAs of any of the services using the network segment.

  • Patent number: 8767542
Abstract: Egress of data packets from a packet switch is controlled in a manner that involves adjusting the shaper accumulators only when a packet egress event or accumulator credit threshold event occurs. A timeline having a number of timeslots is maintained in a memory to mark the times at which events are predicted to occur. If an egress event occurs, in which one or more data packets have been sent from a queue, or if the current timeslot contains a marker, then a count stored in an accumulator is adjusted. If an egress event has occurred or a threshold event in which a count stored in an accumulator has crossed a threshold has occurred, then a marker is stored in a future timeslot.
