  • Patent number: 4914351
Abstract: Photomultiplier dynodes (D.sub.1, D.sub.2 . . . ) each comprise two spaced planes (D.sub.11 and D.sub.12) made up elementary laminations having a cross-section in the form of an isosceles triangle which is symmetrically disposed relative to the inlet window of the photomultiplier tube. The laminations in the two consecutive planes of a single dynode stage are offset relative to each other to constitute a baffle, and are disposed in such a manner that electrons leaving the first plane pass through the second plane without striking the laminations thereof. The distance Z.sub.1 between two dynode stages is large relative to the distance Z.sub.O between the two planes of a single dynode, and is chosen as a function of the electric field in such a manner that the secondary electrons from the upstream stage strike a limited number of the laminations in the downstream stage with a concentrated distribution.

  • Patent number: 4773133
Abstract: The method for relaxing knitted fabrics according to the invention uses humidity, heat and agitation of the fabric. Said agitation is caused by projecting the fast-advancing fabric against a rigid support on which the then nontensioned fabric piles up.The projection of the knitted fabric is obtained by driving said fabric by friction and without slipping, by means of a movable element of projection into the outlet zone from which the fabric is projected against a receiving zone of the support, which receiving zone is situated close to the outlet zone of the projecting element and substantially transversely to the direction of projection. The movable element of projection is a movable belt turning over two cylinders of which one at least is a driving cylinder, whose driving speed can reach 600 meters/minute.

  • Patent number: 4525705
Abstract: The system according to the invention comprises a sensor composed of a movable unit formed by an electrical circuit in which are placed two supple blade switches closed by a rocking member in response to the presence of a yarn. Said circuit comprises a conductor wound on a magnetic core. The data transmitting device comprises a fixed looped conductor of which one part is parallel to the path followed by the sensor and traverses the core. Means are provided for generating oscillations in the looped conductor, as well as means for detecting a variation in the oscillating conditions induced by a change of state of the electrical circuit due to the closure of one switch and indicating that the sensor has met up with a yarn. Due to the detection of the variations in the oscillating conditions, it is possible to find out the number of breakages occurring in the textile machine.

  • Patent number: 4492464
Abstract: The apparatus and method include adjusting two single frequency lasers to separate longitudinal modes of an interferometer, the plates of which are separated by a distance to be measured. A rough estimate of the distance is made using a tape measure or the like. The rough estimate, together with the frequency distance (.DELTA.F) of the lasers adjusted to the longitudinal modes of the interferometer is used to solve the equation: ##EQU1## where c is the speed of light and L.sub.1 is the rough estimate. The parameter k then calculated by rounding k.sub.

  • Patent number: 4473736
Abstract: A plasma generator comprises a metallic tube of small diameter inside which can circulate a gas such as argon at a small flow rate, which is discharged at the front end of the tube. The tube is coupled with an energizing structure which can comprise a frequency generator supplying electromagnetic microwaves, via a coaxial connection, a coupling structure allowing the transfer of the energy of the generator to the front portion of the metallic tube. In the absence of a gas current in the tube, the front portion radiates the energy transmitted to it in the manner of an antenna. When a gas is discharged at the end of the tube, said energy allows maintaining a plasma in front of the latter. This plasma generator device is usable in many applications, such as a blowtorch a light source or torch usable in spectrography, a plasma motor or an ion source.
