  • Patent number: 8328250
Abstract: A door handle for a door of an automotive vehicle having a first gasket attached at a distal end of the door handle and a second gasket attached at a proximate end of the door handle. The first gasket and second gasket have an inner surface facing the outer surface of the door and an outer surface facing the respective ends of the door handle. The first gasket and the second gasket also include a lip formed of a resilient material, which protrudes outwardly relative to the outer surface of gaskets and extends longitudinally along the edge of the gaskets to sealingly engage the ends of the door handle. The lip is embossed so that it is recessed relative to the inner surface of the gasket to accommodate compression of the lip as the handle is displaced towards the door. A flattened portion extends from an end of the lip on the first gasket to dampen noise due to impact between the distal end of the door handle and an outer surface of the door.

  • Patent number: 7492508
Abstract: A fiber amplifier includes at least one coreless end used for the input or extraction of optical energy. The coreless end has a transverse cross section which differs from the transverse cross section of the core at fiber locations remote from the end, so that the diameter of the input or extracted optical beam at the coreless end can be larger than the diameter of the fiber core, to increase an optical damage threshold of the fiber amplifier.

  • Publication number: 20060252650
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus generating a magnetic field, coined a “superconducting permanent magnet apparatus,” that magnetize bulk superconductors into pseudo-permanent magnets, which offer a large, usable space having a strong magnetic field. The superconducting permanent magnet apparatus according to this invention includes: a magnetic pole assembly that holds in a thermally insulated condition, a composite bulk composed of a plurality of bulk superconductors which are arranged in parallel with each other within a vacuum vessel. A stand (i) holds at least a plurality of said magnetic pole assemblies each in a predetermined orientation, and (ii) is movable in a condition that said magnetic pole assemblies are mounted thereon. A cooling part of a freezer is mounted on said magnetic pole assembly. A vacuumizing apparatus being a vacuum pump is connected to said magnetic pole assembly via a vacuum pipe.

  • Publication number: 20040169503
Abstract: To provide an angle sensor which can equalize the magnetic flux distribution while using inexpensive magnets manufactured easily and which can reduce the detection error even if the relative position between the magnetoelectric conversion element and the magnet changes. The permanent magnets M1a, M1b, M2a, M2b each of which is rectangular solid are fixed to the yoke 13 of the rotational angle displacement sensor 11. The permanent magnets M1a, M1b are separated from each other with a clearance L. The permanent magnets M1a, M1b are magnetized in such a manner that the side fixed to the flat wall portion 15a of the yoke 13 is N pole and that the side opposing to the fixed surface side is S pole. Further, the permanent magnets M2a, M2b are separated from each other with a clearance L. The permanent magnets M2a, M2b are magnetized in such a manner that the side fixed to the flat wall portion 15b of the yoke 13 is S pole and that the side opposing to the fixed surface side is N pole.

  • Patent number: 6508102
Abstract: An improved estimator is provided for road/tire friction. The friction estimator provides near-real-time friction estimation, even while the car is accelerating, braking or turning. It is desirable to have an instantaneous and continuous estimate of the road/tire friction, but an estimate that occurs over several wheel rotations is more realistic. The estimate relies on easily measured signals such as yaw rate, lateral acceleration, wheel speed, etc. The estimate can be used to give the driver or a closed-loop controller an advanced warning when the tire force limit is being approached.
