    Abstract: Apparatus for driving a medical appliance has a single compressor for generating both the positive and the negative pressures. Positive and negative pressure valves for controlling communication with the atmosphere are connected to the outlet and inlet terminals of the compressor and the outlet and inlet terminals of the compressor are also connected to a positive pressure accumulator and a negative pressure accumulator, respectively. The apparatus has pressure sensors to sense when the pressures in the accumulators reach a set pressure. The apparatus further has a one-way valve in the positive pressure line between the compressor and the valve or in the negative pressure line between the compressor and the valve. The apparatus prohibits the positive and negative pressure valves from being open at the same time.

    Abstract: A raindrop sensor attached to a plate such as a windshield of a car. A first piezoelectric element as an ultrasonic generator is fitted to the plate via a first coupler. The coupler fixes the first element in an inclined state by a predetermined angle relative to the plate. Thereby, elastic waves or ultrasonic waves from the first element are transmitted while being repeatedly reflected in the plate. A second piezoelectric element as an electro-acoustic transducer is fitted to the plate via a second coupler. The second element detects amplitude of the ultrasonic waves transmitted in the plate.

    Abstract: A hydraulic braking system for an automotive vehicle having a master cylinder communicated with a wheel brake cylinder through a primary passage, and an anti-skid apparatus including a fluid pump which is disposed in a recirculation passage connected to the primary passage. An orifice is disposed in the recirculation passage on a discharge side of said fluid pump. In parallel with the orifice, a relief valve is disposed. The relief valve permits a flow of a brake fluid from the fluid pump to the primary passage when a differential pressure between the pressures on the upstream side and downstream side of the orifice exceeds a predetermined value. Consequently, a discharge pulsation of the fluid pump is effectively reduced.

In a first and a second embodiment, air of an elevated pressure which is discharged by an air compressor is fed through a positive pressure accumulator and a positive pressure open/close valve to the drive chamber, and a negative pressure from an air decompressor is fed through a negative pressure accumulator and the negative pressure open/close valve to the drive chamber. Alternating open periods are assigned to the positive and the negative pressure open/close valve. During the open period, each valve is opened and closed in a manner corresponding to the prevailing pressure in the drive chamber so as to maintain the pressure at a constant value.

    Abstract: An anti-lock brake system is arranged such that the recirculation line from the overflow reservoir feeds into one of the brake lines downstream of the lines dividing point. A constriction, which may take the form of a simple nozzle is positioned between the recirculation line junction and the brake line dividing point for reducing the coupling of pressure fluctuations between the brake lines when the anti-lock system is actuated. With this arrangement, even upon the occurrence of sharp pressure fluctuations in one of the brake lines due to actuation of the anti-lock function, the pressure of the other brake line is not affected thereby allowing proper controlled braking in each wheel.
