    Abstract: A method and apparatus provides conditioning of an air stream by cooling in a regenerative heat exchanger having two groups of channels separated from one another by walls through which heat exchange occurs. The air stream to be conditioned flows through one group of channels while an auxiliary air stream flows through a second group of channels the walls of which comprise wettable material maintained wet by means of water which is caused to evaporate by the auxiliary air stream to result in cooling. The wettable material provides a substantially stationary liquid layer maintained in the channels of auxiliary air flow so that evaporation takes place directly from the walls separating the two groups of channels to obtain high heat exchange efficiency.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for preventing formation of mist by the discharge of moistened air from an evaporative cooler, primarily a cooling tower of the multi-layer type, comprising a contact body composed of a plurality of layers forming between themselves gaps passed by water to be cooled and atmospheric air which is moistened and heated by contact with the water in counter-current or cross-current flow. Under certain conditions as when the temperature of the atmospheric air is so low, when the moistened and heated air is discharged to the atmosphere and cooled to the low temperature of the latter, the moisture contained in the discharged air will be condensed and precipitated in the form of mist to the extent it exceeds the saturation point of the air. Such precipitation can be avoided by mixing the moistened air prior to its escape into the atmosphere with preheated dry air.

    Abstract: A room air conditioning apparatus for exchanging heat and/or moisture between fresh atmospheric air entering the room from the outside and consumed air being discharged from the room combines high capacity with relatively small dimensions, low air velocities and small pressure drops so as to minimize generation of disturbing noise. Within a casing, a motor-driven regenerative-type rotor passes through two air stream zones in the first of which is a motor-driven fan for discharge of consumed room air into the outer atmosphere and in the second of which is a motor-driven fan for supply of fresh air to the room from the outer atmosphere. In the rotor, the two air streams exchange heat and/or moisture content so that the supply of fresh air is given a desired, predetermined temperature and a desired moisture content.

    Abstract: Method for continuously forming a corrugated web of thermoplastic material in which the corrugations extend diagonally across the web. The web is first softened by heat and then passed to a molding belt which moves in an endless path while supporting and advancing the web in a longitudinal direction. The molding belt is provided with grooves corresponding to the corrugations in the web. The corrugations are formed initially by poking the softened web progressively into the grooves without stretching the web to any substantial degree. The thus initially formed corrugations are thereafter drawn into the grooves and retained therein by applying suction to the bottom side of the molding belt.

A main field of use is the purification of hot exhaust gases from internal combustion engines. To render the porous purifier unit insensitive to the high temperature of the engine exhaust gases and the great variations of temperature, particularly in winter time when starting a motor vehicle, and at the same time resistant to high mechanical stress and shock arising mainly from jolts and vibrations of a motor vehicle in motion, the porous body is comprised of a plurality of thin, at least partly corrugated, layers forming between themselves fine passageways extending from end to end for the medium to be purified and coated with the catalyst.

    Abstract: A gas and liquid contact apparatus includes at least one pair of generally vertically aligned contact bodies having pairs of opposed generally vertically and horizontally extending edge portions. The contact bodies have passageways formed therein which penetrate between the two opposed vertical edges of the body, with the horizontal edges thereof being open to admit liquid into the passageways. A liquid impervious distribution strip is located between the adjacent spaced horizontal edges of the contact bodies and extends across one of the vertical edges thereof, to deflect liquid migrating to the one vertical edge toward the other vertical edge of the contact body therebelow.
