    Abstract: An apparatus for the purification of salt brine having magnesium and calcium hardness includes means for treating a saturated salt brine containing magnesium and calcium ions with an alkali metal carbonate and an alkali metal hydroxide in a preselected sequence and in amounts in excess of stoichiometric proportions to form firm, readily settleable, filterable floc precipitate particles of insoluble compounds of magnesium and calcium, suspended in the treated brine and passing the resultant suspension to a filtering unit to separate and remove the floc precipitate and to provide a purified salt brine.

    Abstract: Filament yarns composed of multicomponent fibers of the matrix/segment type are produced and processed into textile fabrics by false-twist texturing the multicomponent fibres made up of segments of varying deniers to cause softening the matrix to bond the filaments together over short, medium or longer sections of the yarn. After conversion of the yarns into fabrics, the fabrics are subjected to a shrinking treatment. The fabrics so treated have a reduced tendency to crease or wrinkle, better crease recovery and better dyeing properties. The denier of the lower denier segments should be finer than 0.6 dtex and the denier of the high denier segments should be at least 1 dtex; the weight ratio of low to high denier segments in the yarn ranges from about 25:75 to about 75:25.     Abstract: A method for the manufacture of urethane-modified polyisocyanurate foams in which an isocyanate is blended with a "B" side comprising a polyol blend, a surfactant, a blowing agent, and a catalyst. The polyol blend comprises at least 5% (wt.) of a mixture of a polyalkoxylated amine and a polyalkoxylated quaternary ammonium borate ester, at least 40% (wt.) of a resin polyol, with any remainder being a polyether or polyester polyol. All components of the "B" side will remain a homogeneous liquid without phase separation and without the need for agitation for at least 7 days after blending. The resin polyols are preferably moderate viscosity, aromatic polyester polyols derived from polycarbomethoxyl-substituted diphenyls, polyphenyls, and benzyl esters of the toluate family.

    Abstract: A solution containing cellulose dissolved in a tertiary amine N-oxide solvent containing a nonsolvent for cellulose such as water is shaped by extrusion or other shaping process to form a shaped cellulose fiber, rod, plate, tubing or film. The extruded shaped article is stretched in air while still a solution to impart improved physical properties thereto and the cellulose is precipitated from the shaped solution to set the properties without additional drawing. The solution may be prepared by dissolving cellulose in the tertiary amine N-oxide solvent in the barrel of an extrusion apparatus, extending the solution, orienting by stretching the resulting product in air while still a solution and then precipitating the cellulose from the shaped article before significant degradation of the cellulose. The cellulose and tertiary amine N-oxide may be ground to substantially the same particle size before charging the extruder barrel.

    Abstract: A tool for terminating an electrical cable by applying to the cable a connector assembly which includes a housing and an insert received in snap-in assembly within the housing. The insert maintains bare end portions of individually insulated conductors which comprise the cable in electrically contacting engagement with spring contacts within the housing and retains the cable in assembled relation to the connector assembly. The tool has an elongated body with wire insulation strippers at opposite ends thereof for preparing an end portion of a cable. A recess in the body intermediate the wire strippers receives a partially assembled connector assembly and facilitates movement of the insert thereof into snap-in engagement with the connector assembly using a screw driver or the like in conjunction with the tool to apply prying force to the partially assembled connector assembly.

    Abstract: A low density matting structure of improved transverse strength obtained by vertically laying continuous melt-spun thermoplastic macrofilaments (diameter=0.1-1.5 mm) onto a horizontally moving profiled support in overlapping rows of irregularly looped filaments to form a peak and valley three-dimensional structure undulating in its longitudinal and/or transverse directions.
