  • Patent number: 5799250
Abstract: To also offer the possibility of mobile communication to branch exchange. The task of the invention is to present an interface arrangement between a private branch exchange and one or more base stations, at low cost for large numbers of existing base stations. To that effect, a microprocessor-controlled interface that maintains the DECT-Standard is offered, which shifts the majority of the functions from the one or more base stations to the branch exchange. A particularly cost-effective solution is obtained by making multiple use of component groups and dynamic channel assignment.

  • Patent number: 5793506
Abstract: Optical transmission systems in which interactive services, such as video-on-demand, are to be provided must be low in cost if the services are to find acceptance. This requires, among other things, that as little change to the structure of existing optical transmission systems as possible should be necessary. In the optical transmission system according to the invention, a first frequency-division multiplex signal (S.sub.T) is formed from subscriber-assigned video and telecommunications signals at a center (1). Cable television signals (S.sub.TV) are transmitted with light of a first wavelength, and the first frequency-division multiplex signal (S.sub.T) with light of a second wavelength, to at least one optical network termination (3). In the latter, the cable television signals (S.sub.TV) and the video signals are combined into a third frequency-division multiplex signal.

  • Patent number: 5794195
Abstract: During speech recognition of words, a precise and strong detection of start/end points of the words must be ensured, even in very noisy surroundings. Use of a feature with noise-resistant properties is shown wherein for a feature vector, a function of the signal energy is formed as the first feature and a function of the quadratic difference of an LPC (Linear-Predictive-Coding) cepstrum coefficient as a second feature. A check quantity or a maximum function of a distribution function is calculated, which detects the start/end points by comparison with a threshold.

  • Patent number: 5790812
Abstract: In an open system (TN) in which the encoding and decoding of data is performed to transmit these data between system elements (VSTA, VSTX), it is proposed to enter definitions of different data types, which these data may have, into a definition dictionary. Generic functions are applied to abstract data types in a program for carrying out the encoding and decoding. When the program is running, the user-specific data are entered and their data type is determined. The definition of this data type is obtained from the definition dictionary and assigned to the abstract data types, so that the functions of the program are performed with the user-specific data. An implementation example of the method according to the invention is shown.

  • Patent number: 5787120
Abstract: To go from a coupled high level to a decoupled low level, a source unit (SU) of a transmitter (T) must be decoupled from a transmission line (TL) by a impedance unit (IU). As a result, oscillatory transition phenomena appear in the output signal and this signal possibly goes beyond a prescribed template. To avoid such overshoot problems the present transmitter (T) decreases the signal level during a decrease period before decoupling the source unit (SU) from the transmission line (TL). Therefore a source control circuit (SCC) is included in the control unit (CU) of the transmitter (T) for controlling the source level in such a way that the output signal level is decreasing.

  • Patent number: 5787078
Abstract: The problem of pulse frame synchronization occurs for example in a telecommunications system with cordless terminals operating according to the DECT standard. To establish a radio connection between base station and a cordless terminal, the base station scans its radio cell in sequence with the available ten high-frequency carriers in the DECT frame rhythm. In a multiple cell environment, the synchronization of all base stations belonging to a cordless telecommunications installation is necessary, to enable all base stations to scan the same frequency at the same time. This is achieved by blanking the DECT multi-frame synchronization pulses. The pulse gap is evaluated by error detection circuits which are present anyway, and used for the PSCN Primary receiver Scan Number-synchronization.

  • Patent number: 5784376
Abstract: An adaptive burst multiplexing system using dynamic deadline computation serializes data from source units. It comprises interface circuits for accumulating in a buffer memory a quantity of data from a corresponding source unit. An empty frame generator circulates a series of frames around a ring through the interface circuit. Each interface circuit computes a deadline beyond which its buffer memory may become saturated and places this deadline in a passing empty frame. When this frame returns to the frame generator it contains the identifier of the interface circuit that put in it the earliest deadline. The generator transmits an empty frame over the ring with the identifier of this interface circuit which then recognizes its authorization to transfer data accumulated in its memory.

  • Patent number: 5783368
Abstract: The invention concerns a method of forming a number of electric conductors at a very short distance from the end of depressions such as V-grooves on a substrate. In one configuration example, a film of PTFE or of a similar material is laminated over the entire surface of the substrate. Holes are etched in the film. The holes are metallized. Conductive paths are formed, which are electrically connected to the metallized holes. The film in the area of the grooves is removed by etching. In another configuration example, the grooves are temporarily filled with a photoresist and the conductive paths and contact surfaces are formed in accordance with a photolithographic method.

  • Patent number: 5784303
Abstract: A shaping method is proposed in which cells (U1-U7, 01-06) of a cell stream (CS1) are mutually delayed to obtain a shaped cell stream (CS2). For this method, a shaping delay is used which depends upon the type of the cells which are so delayed in order for consecutive user cells (U1-U2, U2-U3, . . . ) to be mutually delayed over the inverse (TU) of the peak cell rate negotiated for these user cells (U1-U7). The above method is obtained by making this shaping delay equal to the above inverse when adjacent cells are user cells (U1-U2), to a fraction (TU/3) of this inverse when the second one of these adjacent cells is an operation and maintenance or OAM cell (01-07), and to the difference between the above inverse and the number of consecutive OAM cells inbetween two user cells (U5-U6) times the above fraction, if the first one of said adjacent cells is an OAM cell (03) whilst the second one is a user cell (U6).

  • Patent number: 5777765
Abstract: The optical delay unit (ODL) introduces a programmable delay of an optical signal on an optical signal path. The delay of the optical signal is realised by converting the incoming optical signal (IN) into an electrical signal, then delaying the electrical signal, using electronic devices in an electrical delay unit (ELDL), and finally converting the electrical signal into an optical signal. The electrical delay is controlled by an operator sending control data (A) via a control interface (CI) to the electrical delay unit (ELDL). A first use relates to the testing of the normal operation and/or performance of an optical network for different optical line lengths. A second use relates to the inclusion of the delay unit in an optical line emulator (OLE), wherein this optical delay unit (ODL) is coupled to an optical attenuator (ATT) which is also controlled by an operator sending control data (B) via the control interface (CI) and a power control unit (PCU).
