Abstract: A hose (24) constitutes a part of a milking machine and has an end portion (30) which is radially expanded and applied on a tubular nipple (29), the outer diameter of which exceeds the inner diameter of the hose. The milking machine includes structure for providing a negative pressure in the hose. The hose is reinforced by including at least one elongated reinforcement member (25), (26) which consists of material substantially harder than the wall of the hose and which extends along the hose in a helical cavity in the wall of the hose. In addition, the reinforcement member completely fills up the cavity and is arranged therein, such that relative movement between the reinforcement member and the wall of the hose is allowed.
Abstract: In a method of milking an animal by using a milking machine having at least one teat cup (4) with a liner (5) and a pulsation chamber (6), the milking machine is operated to pressurize the pulsation chamber, such that during each pulsation the liner opens and/or closes at a slower rate during the beginning and/or ending periods (I, III, IV) of the milking operation than during the main milk extracting period (II) of the milking operation.

Abstract: When feeding cows with a fodder supply containing roughage and concentrate fodder, the cows are allowed to consume optional quantities of roughage, while the concentrate fodder is distributed to the cows in individual restricted quantities. According to the invention, the roughage consumption of each cow is measured during an initial predetermined part of the lactation period of the cow, the individual quantity of concentrate fodder to be administered the cow during the remaining part of the lactation period of the cow being determined on basis of at least the measured consumption of roughage of the cow during the initial predetermined part of the lactation period of the cow.
Abstract: A valve apparatus comprises at least one valve device having a chamber, an inlet and an outlet. A moveable member in the chamber is arranged to displace a membrane such that the membrane is rolled against the wall of the chamber between a closing position at which the membrane covers the opening of the outlet and an opening position at which the opening of the outlet is uncovered. A flow passage is formed for a fluid to flow from the inlet to the outlet. The moveable member is provided with an entrainment member arranged to extend into and be displaced in the flow passage during at least a substantial part of the displacement of the membrane between closing and opening positions.
Abstract: A method for prophylactic treatments of the colonization of a Staphylococcus aureus bacterial strain having the ability to bind to fibronectin in a mammal. The method comprises administering a prophylactic therapeutically active amount of a protein having fibronectin binding properties to a mammal in need of such treatment. The generation of infections, such as mastitis, caused by a Staphylococcus aureus bacterial strain are thereby prevented. The administration may be via vaccination to induce immunization.

Abstract: In order to produce a milk concentrate by membrane filtration of the milk produced at a milking plant the milk is during the milking continuously led to the concentrate space (2) of a member filter unit (1) possibly after heating to a temperature of 50.degree.-70.degree. C. The degree of concentration of the outgoing concentrate from the concentrate space is determined in that two positive pumps (13, 16) are arranged to work at a constant internal relation in capacity each arranged to control a flow chosen among arriving milk flow to the concentrate space (2), outgoing concentrate flow from the concentrate space (2) and outgoing permeate flow from the permeate space (3) of the membrane filter unit (1).
Abstract: A milking means comprising a number of teat cups, each having necessary connections for the milking function. According to the invention the milking means has such a design that when the milking means is in the position for application of the teat cups (11; 21; 31; 40; 50) onto the teats of the animal, each teat cup freely from the remaining teat cups is hanging down from a point (13; 25; 32; 45; 54) above the teat base (14; 26; 33; 46; 55) of the udder of the animal.
Abstract: An apparatus which functions as a combined outlet valve and a meter for a fluid. The apparatus comprises a space (2) in which a piston means (3) is reciprocatable and which is in connection with an inlet conduit and an outlet conduit on each side of the piston (3), each of said conduits being provided with a shut-off valve (5a, b; 6a, b). According to the invention the adjustment of the shut-off valves (5a, b, 6a, b) is effected by means (4, 8-14) acting by vacuum and/or atmospheric air.
