  • Patent number: 7054488
Abstract: A method for determining transparency in image extraction creates a first mask bitmap by combining a first image and a second image, wherein the first image and the second image have the same size and are the same except for transparent areas. A second mask bitmap is created which displaces pixels of first RGB values in the first image to second RGB values. The first mask bitmap is applied to the second mask bitmap by performing an ‘OR’ operation on the first and second mask bitmaps. Pixels in the resulting bitmap of the ‘OR’ operation which have the first RGB values are transparent. Pixels in the resulting bitmap of the ‘OR’ operation, corresponding to the pixels in the first image that had the first RGB values, have the second RGB values. Pixels are identified in the resulting bitmap of said ‘OR’ operation which have said first RGB values as transparent.

  • Patent number: 7051116
Abstract: Enabling a host system to communicate with and to identify at least one client device that communicates with the host system through a network address translator device includes enabling communications from a first client device through the network address translator device. A data packet is received that includes a payload portion and an attribute portion, where the attribute portion includes a destination address that indicates a destination for the data packet and a nearest source address. A portion of the received data packet other than the nearest source address is examined for a host-assigned identifier that identifies a client device that communicated the received data packet. The received data packet typically is processed in accordance with predetermined host system controls accessible to the host system for the first client device identified, such as host-enabled parental controls.

  • Patent number: 7047229
Abstract: Performing a search to identify web sites that relate to a search term based on text within the web sites includes receiving at least one search term that then is compared with electronic information within at least one electronic information store to determine whether matches exist. The electronic information within the at least one information store may include text and/or full text displayed by different web pages from different web sites. Results based on the matches that are determined to exist are displayed. The results include at least one website identifier. The search may be performed by a web host having members and may further include automatically scanning and storing the text of a website when the website is accessed by a member of the web host. The stored text may be compared against received search terms.

  • Patent number: 7043606
Abstract: An automatic browser Web cache resizing system allows a browser to adjust its Web cache size to its environment automatically. When the browser starts up, the browser examines the host computer's hard drive for the amount of the available free space and allocates the maximum reasonable amount of the free space on the hard drive for the Web cache that it needs to run efficiently. During the browser's shutdown sequence, it optionally reexamines the free space on the hard drive and gives up as much of its allocated Web cache space as it can. Every time the browser writes to or reads from the Web cache, the browser checks to see if its Web cache allocation is needed for free space. If the browser sees that the amount of free space is low, it will give up some of its Web cache space that it allocated. Another preferred embodiment of the invention integrates the invention with the operating system of the host computer. The browser requests memory from the operating system.

  • Patent number: 7043264
Abstract: A robust data delivery system between a server and a mobile client uses the Short Message Service (SMS) and General Packet Radio System (GPRS) services. A user and/or messaging provider set preferences on the mobile client for service coverage estimation that balances SMS and GPRS service coverage estimations for the mobile client, and/or service selection preferences that are expressed using a balance of cost of service and reliability of service. The mobile client receives a message from the server, sent using either the SMS or GPRS services. The mobile client checks the status of its SMS and GPRS signals. The mobile client weighs preference settings and the SMS and GPRS signal statuses to decide whether to answer the server using SMS or GPRS. If GPRS is selected, then the mobile client answers using GPRS; if SMS is selected, then the mobile answers using SMS.

  • Patent number: 7039683
Abstract: Electronic information is made more readily available to one or more access requestors based on an anticipated demand for the electronic information using a process, system or computer software. For instance, electronic information stored on a first storage medium is identified for transport (e.g., in response to a request of at least one of the access requestors), and the electronic information is transported accordingly. Afterwards, a determination is made to store the electronic information on a second storage medium that is more accessible to the access requestors than the first storage medium. The determination is based on a size of the electronic information and an anticipated demand of the access requestors for the electronic information. The anticipated demand is determined based at least on information that is not particular to any single access requestor.

  • Patent number: 7039193
Abstract: Whether a microphone is connected to a real-time audio communication system of a computer may be detected by recording an audio sample through the real-time audio communication system, filtering a DC component is filtered out of the audio data, recognizing a pattern in the auto-correlation coefficients of the filtered audio sample, and determining whether a microphone is properly connected to the real-time audio communication system based on the values of the auto-correlation function coefficients and the predetermined values.

  • Patent number: 7039596
Abstract: Implementing an electronic calendar can include accessing a first electronic calendar owned by a first party, accessing a second electronic calendar owned by a second party, and presenting a view that combines at least one existing entry from within each of the first and second electronic calendars. Source information for each of the first and second electronic calendars may be electronically maintained. The combined view may be updated electronically to reflect a change to at least one of the existing entries from within at least one of the first and second electronic calendars. Electronic calendars may be accessed and overlaid without importing events, thus enabling simple updating. Event information may be imported and source or other attributes may be associated with imported information to enable updating and other sorting functions.

  • Patent number: 7007008
Abstract: Performing a category search to identify categories of web sites that relate to a search term includes receiving at least one search term that then is compared with a hierarchy of category identifiers, and with terms related to one or more categories, to determine whether matches exist. A category identifier is selected based on the matches that are determined to exist within the hierarchy and the terms, and at least the category identifier is displayed. Performing a search to identify web sites and categories of web sites that relate to a search term also may include receiving at least one search term that then is compared with a list of recommended web sites, previously performed searches, a hierarchy of category identifiers, and terms related to one or more categories to determine whether matches exist. • Patent number: 6999577
Abstract: Alerting an intended recipient of a phone call includes identifying an account based on a phone call received from a caller and accessing configuration data related to the account. Several identities associated with the account are identified based on the configuration data accessed. A first identity is determined from among the several identities based on the configuration data accessed. The availability of the first identity to receive a first electronic communication associated with the phone call is determined. The first electronic communication associated with the phone call is sent to the first identity conditioned on whether the first identity is determined to be available to receive the first electronic communication.
