Patents Assigned to American Electric Power Service Corporation
  • Patent number: 6481360
Abstract: A system for collecting ultra fine fly ash from a dry fly ash removal system includes providing a bagfilter transport conduit for each bagfilter of the system. A vacuum shutoff valve is positioned in each bagfilter transport conduit The bagfilter transport conduit is selectively connected to an educator that is, in turn, selectively connected to a blower. The blower creates a vacuum flow in the transport conduit that draws the ultra fine fly ash from the bagfilter and deposits the ultra fine fly ash in a collection bin. This system allows a dry fly ash removal system to segregate fly ash by size and separately collect the ultra fine fly ash from the larger fly ash particles. The ultra fine fly ash has been found to be commercially valuable as a concrete admixture filler in various applications.

  • Patent number: 6011381
Abstract: Autotransformer design which is capable of modifying the active power flow in autotransformers connecting two different voltage systems in an electrical substation. The bus-tie autotransformers presented change the active power flow by modifying the phase-angle between the primary and secondary voltages of the autotransformer. In accordance with the two tap changers are employed allowing for independent changes in both the voltage ratio and the phase-angle values.

  • Patent number: 5293110
Abstract: A capacitor bank installation for generating reactive power in high or extra high voltage electrical power systems, for example 345kV, to maintain the voltage level during heavy loading conditions or system contingencies. A three phase capacitor bank is connected between the high voltage line and the low voltage line by a first switching device which is connected between the high voltage line and the capacitor bank and by a second switching device which is connected between the capacitor bank and the low voltage line. The first switching device is a current interrupting device in series with a motorized disconnect switch which has a lower recovery voltage withstand capability than would be required if switching a shunt capacitor bank connected to the high voltage system. The second switching device is a motorized disconnect switch without any current interrupting capability.

  • Patent number: 5106422
Abstract: The subject invention relates to a rapid-setting self-hardening backfill composition and method of installation. The composition comprising a minor amount of Class C fly ash as a primary constituent and other filler materials such as Class F fly ash in major amount. When such materials are combined with water in controlled amount, they produce a backfilling material which is flowable and self-leveling for easy installation in utility trenches and similar excavations in street and roadway surfaces to support relatively heavy compressive loads within relatively short periods of time without settling. The self-hardening initially flowable mixtures attain considerable strength for withstanding traffic loads without undue settling in time periods of about 4 hours.
