Patent number: 4821089Abstract: Integrated circuits implemented in insulated gate (e.g., CMOS) technology have been protected from electrostatic discharge (ESD) by a metal gate field effect transistor. It has been recognized that a "parasitic" bipolar transistor exists in parallel with the metal gate device. Surprisingly, superior protection is obtained by omitting the metal gate, thereby relying only on the avalanche breakdown of the bipolar device for the opposite-polarity protection. It is postulated that the field effect of the metal gate device undesirably restricted the current flow in the prior art technique. The inventive technique may be advantageously implemented using a diode rather than a transistor as the protective element.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1987Date of Patent: April 11, 1989Assignee: American Telephone and Telegraph Company, AT&T LaboratoriesInventor: Mark S. Patent number: 4788718Abstract: An arrangement and method for compiling telecommunication traffic analysis data includes the steps of collecting call data for a plurality of calls to a single customer from a signaling circuit that commonly carries the signaling for calls to a plurality of customers. The call data is transmitted to and stored in a call data processor which processes the call data to compile a summary of traffic data for the plurality of calls to the customer. Further processing of the summary of traffic data results in a change of a parameter in the customer's call processing logic and a reduction of call blocking for subsequent calls.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1987Date of Patent: November 29, 1988Assignee: American Telephone and Telegraph Company, AT & T LaboratoriesInventors: Sandra D. McNabb, Richard S. Yien

Patent number: 4767812Abstract: An article for the sustained release of an insecticide into the ambient air comprises an elastomeric matrix, with the insecticide dissolved in the matrix. The matrix material has a modulus between about 10.sup.4 Pa and about 10.sup.8 Pa at 23.degree. C., and a glass transition temperature less than 0.degree. C. The matrix comprises polyurethane formed by reacting hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene or polyisoprene and 4,4' diphenylmethane diisocyanate, and the insecticide is 2,2' dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate. The insecticide-containing matrix is contained in a plastic bottle, and typically protected against inadvertent skin contact by means of a dermal barrier. The article also comprises means for activating the article such that, prior to activation, release of insecticide into the ambient air is prevented, whereas such release can take place after activation. Exemplary activation means comprise a metal foil seal of the plastic bottle. The article is effective in controlling insect infestation (e.g.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1986Date of Patent: August 30, 1988Assignee: American Telephone and Telegraph Company, AT&T LaboratoriesInventors: John T. Patent number: 4753859Abstract: A nonaqueous, lithium cell is described which exhibits excellent safety characteristics when exposed to abusive testing, as well as high energy density, good charge and discharge rates, and long recycle life. Particularly unique is the composition of the electrolyte which contains such substances as ethylene carbonate, propylene carbonate and one or more polyethylene glycol dialkyl ethers.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1987Date of Patent: June 28, 1988Assignee: American Telephone and Telegraph Company, AT&T LaboratoriesInventors: Laura E. Patent number: 4688214Abstract: Methods and arrangements for properly associating an alerting message from an ISDN user terminal with the control process associated with the message are disclosed. Each call, in a disclosed switching network, is associated with a call control process and data structure. When an external request for a call is received, a data structure including a predetermined broadcast Terminal Endpoint Identifier (TEI) and a call reference value selected by the network, is created. Further, a message including the broadcast TEI and the selected call reference value is sent to a user terminal. The user terminal responds with an alerting message including the selected call reference value and a TEI unique to that terminal (not the broadcast TEI). The switching network searches the data structures until a data structure is located which includes the call reference value of the received message and the broadcast TEI.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1986Date of Patent: August 18, 1987Assignee: American Telephone and Telegraph Company, AT&T LaboratoriesInventors: Gregory S. Patent number: 4666820Abstract: Photosensitive bodies that are sensitive to ultraviolet radiation and that exhibit excellent contrast are formed from base soluble polymers such as poly(methyl methacrylate-co-methacrylic acid) physically mixed with base insoluble materials such as o,o'-dinitrobenzyl esters. The base insoluble esters decompose upon irradiation to form base soluble entities in the irradiated regions. These irradiated portions are then soluble in basic solutions that are used to develop the desired image.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1985Date of Patent: May 19, 1987Assignee: American Telephone and Telegraph Company, AT&T LaboratoriesInventors: Edwin A.
