Patent number: 9358326Abstract: Substrates, optionally coated with an undercoating, having grafted thereto one or more non-fouling materials are described herein. The non-fouling, polymeric material can be grafted to a variety of functionalized substrate materials, particularly polymeric substrates and/or polymeric undercoatings immobilized on a substrate. The compositions described herein are highly resistant protein absorption, particularly in complex media and retain a high degree of non-fouling activity over long periods of time. The compositions described herein may also demonstrate antimicrobial and/or anti-thrombogenic activity. The non-fouling material can be grafted to a functionalized substrate, or optionally from an undercoating on the substrate, preferably without significantly affecting the mechanical and/or physical properties of the substrate material.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2012Date of Patent: June 7, 2016Assignee: ARROW INTERNATIONAL, INC.Inventors: Zheng Zhang, Chad Huval, William Shannan O'Shaughnessey, Michael Hencke, Trevor Squier, Jun Li, Michael Bouchard, Christopher R. Patent number: 8611993Abstract: A stimulating needle and catheter system, including components, is provided such that the position of the stimulating needle or the stimulating catheter may be identified after insertion into the body of a patient by electrically stimulating and thus locating a specific nerve. Use of the needle and catheter system is eased by providing the system to the medical practitioner in a unitary structure. That is, the needle and catheter are connected by a catheter lock. The catheter lock is attached to the hub of the needle and can be actuated to either firmly grip the catheter or allow the catheter to move axially with respect to the lock and needle assembly. Thus, supplying the catheter to the practitioner already locked into the catheter lock allows the practitioner to insert the needle into the patient and, when ready, release the catheter for disposal through the needle into the patient. This and other disclosed features allow the medical practitioner to focus attention on the medical procedure.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2005Date of Patent: December 17, 2013Assignee: Arrow International, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey M. Vitullo, Fred Hafer, Mark J. Spinka, Richard L. Harding

Patent number: 8177753Abstract: A catheter insertion assembly for inserting a catheter into a body lumen of a patient is disclosed as well as a method of using the assembly. The assembly comprises a hub, a catheter stiffener and a valve. The valve is disposed in the lumen of the hub and prevents substantially all fluid flow through the lumen in at least one direction below a pressure threshold. The proximal end of the stiffener is attached to the hub and the stiffener extends distally of the distal end of the hub. The stiffener lumen is in fluid communication with the hub lumen. The stiffener occupies a lumen of the catheter and provides additional stiffness to the catheter such that a catheter introducer is not necessary for insertion of the catheter.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2007Date of Patent: May 15, 2012Assignee: Arrow International, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey M. Vitullo, Newswanger K. Raymond, Eric Lopez

Patent number: 8162736Abstract: A method for playing a game of chance includes distributing game cards from a set of game cards to a plurality of players, each of the game cards in the set displaying at least one game face which includes a set of indicia selected from a pool of indicia. A game of chance is played in which the players match indicia randomly called from the pool of indicia with the indicia in the respective game face. A game face is identified in which a set of the called indicia form a first configuration on a game card from the plurality of distributed game cards. A jackpot level is determined from a plurality of possible jackpot levels based at least in part on a comparison of at least one of the indicia displayed on the identified game face with at least one jackpot number.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2008Date of Patent: April 24, 2012Assignee: Arrow International, Inc.Inventor: James William Brennan

Patent number: 7997581Abstract: A set of game cards, such as bingo cards (10) which each display an arrangement of game indicia, such as bingo numbers (27) are configured for use in combination with jackpot tickets (12) in a game of chance, such as bingo or keno, in which numbers are drawn at random from a pool. The jackpot tickets provide chances for a winner of a bingo game played with the bingo cards to be eligible for a jackpot award. The jackpot tickets (12) each include a set of jackpot numbers (28) selected from the same pool as the bingo numbers (27). These are compared with the bingo numbers on the winning bingo card to determine whether the winning card is eligible for a jackpot award.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2008Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: Arrow International, Inc.Inventor: James William Brennan

Patent number: 7950662Abstract: A system for playing a game of chance includes a plurality of playing cards, each of the playing cards displaying game symbols thereon. At least some of the plurality of playing cards display an eligible game symbol for participation in bonus levels of play. A master game card is provided for use in conjunction with the playing cards. The master game card includes a plurality of playing areas, each playing area representing a playing level. In each playing area, one or more of the eligible game symbols are included as a bonus level game symbol for the respective level of play. In each successive level of play, more of the eligible game symbols are identified as bonus level game symbols. Cover members conceal the bonus level game symbols prior to play. By opening one of the cover members at each level in turn, a winning one of the eligible game symbols is revealed.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2008Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Assignee: Arrow International, Inc.Inventor: Dana Robinson

Patent number: 7833214Abstract: A method of inserting a multi-lumen catheter assembly. First, an incision is made near the area to be catheterized. The proximal portion of the multi-lumen catheter tube is then inserted into the area to be catheterized. A subcutaneous tunnel is created, and the first end of the tunnel is near the incision. The catheter tube is then routed through the subcutaneous tunnel and pulled tube through a second end of the subcutaneous tunnel. The hub body is then securely attached to the catheter tube by connecting the connection cover to the hub body by threaded engagement. In a preferred embodiment the hub body is attached to the catheter tube by backfitting the connection cover over the catheter tube. A compression sleeve is also backfit over the catheter tube. The cannulae of the hub body are inserted into the lumens of the catheter tube to create fluid communication therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2007Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Assignee: Arrow International, IncInventors: Jon S.
