Patents Assigned to Bankers Trust Co.
  • Patent number: 4729488
Abstract: Liquified and compressed gases are sold in cylinders having threaded necks which attach to lanterns, stoves, torches, etc., which use the gas as fuel. A tearable plastic cap fits over the neck and has an internal bead which snaps under a shoulder on the neck. Above the shoulder is a circumferential first score line and a second score line extends to the bottom of the cap. In proximity to the second score line is a pull tab. Before the tab is pulled, the cap prevents surreptitious dispensing of the gas, protects the threads and prevents contamination of the neck and of the valve inside the neck. To remove the cap, the tab is pulled, tearing the cap along the second and then the first score line, thereby removing the lower portion of the cap, including the bead. The upper portion of the cap may be used for reclosure.

  • Patent number: 4722448
Abstract: Plastic bottle caps of the snap-on type having tamper indicating means such as a tear band. The top wall of the top overhangs its side wall and the overhanging lip is filleted at an angle of about 30.degree. to increase the difficulty of removing the cap by hand without visibly affecting the tamper indicating means. Also, the cap has interior interrupted beads for snapping over the shoulder of the bottle neck and has ribs in the interruptions for adjusting the magnitude of the snap-on and snap-off forces. The cap is molded on a core having grooves for forming the beads and ribs. The cap may have a non-resilient gasket and a dished top so that it can exert pressure on the gasket. A foil seal having adhesive on one surface may underlie the gasket. After the cap has been applied to the bottle neck, the foil seal may be caused to adhere to the bottle neck.

  • Patent number: 4699287
Abstract: A container having a neck formed with external shoulders and grooves below the shoulders is closed by a plastic cap having a depending skirt formed with interrupted internal beads which lock under the neck shoulders and are received in the neck grooves. A circumferential scoreline is formed in the skirt above the lower bead and is connected to a second scoreline which extends down to the lower edge of the skirt. Adjoining the terminus of the second scoreline is a tab which may be gripped and pulled to tear the skirt upward along the second scoreline and then circumferentially around the first scoreline to remove the lower part of the skirt and make it possible to remove the remaining portion of the cap.The improvement consists in making the bead sections in various truncated conical shapes distributed in various patterns. These shapes facilitate application of the cap to the neck without splitting the former or crushing the latter.

  • Patent number: 4678094
Abstract: A cap for a container neck has a skirt formed with beads on its inner surface which cooperate with matching grooves in the neck to retain the cap in place when the skirt is intact. A circumferential groove is formed in the skirt intermediate the beads joined with a second groove extending to the bottom edge of the skirt. A tab projecting beyond the skirt is gripped and pulled, causing the skirt to tear upward and then circumferentially, thereby removing the lower bead and permitting the top of the cap to be removed and re-closed. A flange is formed on the exterior of the skirt immediately above the level of the first groove. The flange prevents the skirt from tearing upward above the first groove. It also facilitates prying the cap off the neck when the lower part of the skirt has been torn off. Various flange shapes are disclosed, several of which are shaped to defeat attempts to pry off the cap before the skirt is torn.
