    Abstract: A split sleeve for insulation of heat generating components, such as an exhaust gas recirculation device, comprises an outer layer of knitted woven or braided glass fiber yarn. A first metal wire skeleton or frame in the form of a continuous wire support for the outer layer is bent in a first step with a series of reverse bends to form a comb-like structure and in a second step to a C-shaped cross-sectional configuration in which the wire defines a cavity and the wire bends define an opening extending lengthwise of the cavity. A layer of heat insulating mineral paper is spaced from the cover layer by the metal wire skeleton. The heat insulating mineral paper is provided with a metal foil layer on the side away from the metal wire skeleton. A second metal wire layer configured like the first extends lengthwise of the sleeve and spaces the reflective surface of the foil from the heat generating component.

    Abstract: A woven fabric sleeve for protecting and covering elongated substrates is made up of circumferentially and longitudinally extending interlaced fill and warp members, the fill members forming circumferentially extending alternating bands of relative flexibility separating bands of inflexibility. The fill members may be comprised of monofilament or multifilament yarns of alternating large and small diameters and may include wire, especially resilient wire, heat settable materials, including polyester served wire and DREF yarns having resiliently settable cores. The fill members may be held in relation to one another utilizing Leno and mock Leno weaving.

    Abstract: Convoluted tubing for automotive wiring harnesses and other elongated substrates is provided with sound dampening qualities by filling the valleys between convolutions with a flexible, resilient foamed composition, such as silicone rubber, and foaming the composition to cause expansion of the foam so that ribs of foam project radially from the valleys. In a preferred embodiment, spaced apertures are formed in the valleys to allow the expanding foam to form radially inwardly projecting fingers which contact the wiring harness and act to dampen vibrations. The corrugated tubing may be axially slit and the slit allowed to be filled with the foamed composition which, when foamed, eliminates noises caused by movement of the edge surfaces of the slit when torsional forces are applied to opposite ends of the tube.

    Abstract: A wiring harness breakout clip for forming and supporting the trunk and branch portions of a wire bundle from a wiring harness is provided. The harness breakout clip mounts on a support surface and includes: a substantially rigid plate for supporting the trunk portion of the wire bundle; locating posts joined to and projecting from the plate, the locating posts being spaced apart to form a locating space for a branch portion of the wire bundle; and flexible straps joined to the plate in adjacent relation to the locating posts for fastening the wire bundle to the plate. In an alternative embodiment, the flexible straps have internesting intermediate and proximal sections and distal sections. The intermediate sections nest within recesses in the proximal sections and the distal sections nest within recesses in the internested sections.

    Abstract: A tubular insulating gasket includes a braided jacket having a non-stretchable warp bead laid in along one side wall and a mesh bulb made of resilient wire contained within the jacket and spaced from the warp bead. The gasket is made by braiding the jacket on a tubular mandrel having a diameter greater than the pull-down diameter of the braid, interlocking the warp bead into the braid to prevent its axial expansion, feeding the bulb through the mandrel into the jacket as the jacket is taken off the mandrel. Gaskets have less tendency to crimp or collapse as where the gasket is fit around corners of an open door are produced.

Warp beads formed by knitting or braiding are equidistantly spaced around the circumference of the braid and introduced to the braider to form an integral part of the structure. One or more heavy denier yarns are loaded on carriers so as to cross the warp beads under relatively high tension, forcing the beads selectively to the inside or outside of the sleeve surface so as to create longitudinally extending spacers which create air gaps between the sleeve and the surface of the substrate being covered.

    Abstract: Woven sleeving having integral tie cords for bundling and harnessing electrical cables and other elongated substrates is disclosed. The sleeving is woven by the method of displacing catch cords a fixed distance from the fabric selvages and raising the catch cords at predetermined intervals to effect a looping of the fill yarn at predetermined intervals. The fill yarn may extend directly from the selvage or from points spaced inwardly from the selvage so as to creat a tab area along the margin of the sleeve so that the sleeve margins overlap when the sleeve is fastened in place.
