Patents Assigned to Bernel Chemical Co.
  • Patent number: 5993861
Abstract: The present invention relates to a synthetic, branched chain, oil soluble, fatty acid esters which, when preferably partially neutralized in situ, is revealed as a new water-in-oil emulsifier. Formulations are presented which demonstrate a method for using the disclosed emulsifier to prepare stable water-in-oil emulsions of varying polarity and viscosity for use in a variety of dermatological applications, and/or wherever emulsions according to the present invention may be used.

  • Patent number: 5840285
Abstract: This invention introduces a series of esters to be used as emollients in cosmetic formulations. These are C.sub.12 -C.sub.15 blended alcohol esters, C.sub.16, C.sub.18, C.sub.20 and C.sub.20 alcohol esters of fumaric and maleic acids. When used "neat" or in formulations they are unusually safe by standard cosmetic tests. A unique and ideal physical property of the C.sub.12 -C.sub.15 blend alcohol ester of fumaric acid is that it is a solid melting at body temperature. These esters, with their safety and physical properties, introduce the cosmetic chemist to new ideal cosmetic emollients for use in any cosmetic formulation.

  • Patent number: 5620682
Abstract: Novel Sunscreen compositions are demonstrated which are either water dispersible or waterproof without the inclusion of PABA, PABA derivatives, oxybenzone (Benzophenone 3), and any auxilliary UV-B or UV-A screen be they water or oil soluble. This is done by the use of p-methoxy-2-ethyl-hexyl cinnamate (Parsol MCX) and 1-(4-methoxylphenyl)-3-(4 tert-butyl-phenyl) propan 1-3 dione (Parsol 1789) as the only absorbers present. The only common element in all the sunscreen composition demonstrated is the presence of the neopentanoate ester having the strutural formula ##STR1## which is used for emolliency; moisturization and increasing the SPF factors. The unusually high SPF factors are a result of these unique compositions.

  • Patent number: 5516506
Abstract: Two specific diesters of neopentyl glycol used in varying combinations are introduced as replacements for mineral oil in cosmetic formulations which increases SPF of the formulations, are unusually safe even when used neat, have zero comedogenicity and mimic mineral oil in all of its good physical and chemical properties.

  • Patent number: 5476643
Abstract: A novel use of two specific neopentyl glycol diesters as wetting, dispersing, spreading and deterging agents for micronized TiO.sub.2, ZnO and other pigments is introduced. These esters, neopentyl glycol di-2-ethyl hexanoate and neopentyl glycol di-isostearate, are used in varying combinations and may also be used with an emulsifying agent for a water dispersible pigmented make-up cleaner composition.

  • Patent number: 5116604
Abstract: This invention is concerned with the use of neopentanoate esters as novel cosmetic emollients for sunscreen products. The use of isoarachidyl neopentanoate in sunscreen formulations offer new and unexpected results over the use of similar esters previously disclosed. The isoarachidyl neopentanoate has a minimal odor, good stability, water white color, higher sun protection factor values, good emolliency, good crystal solibilization, very low freeze point. It forms the emollient basis for a new way to make very high sun protection factor products.

  • Patent number: 4537762
Abstract: This invention is concerned with various physical mixtures of quaternary ammonium compounds and tertiary amine salts of long-chain acids. These self-emulsifiable and self-dispersing mixtures exhibit synergistically enhanced properties including: surfactant and emollient properties, anti-static properties, anti-tangle properties, lubricant properties, and film forming properties. These unique properties and characteristics are utilized in various hair and skin conditioner formulations.
