Patent number: 6748872Abstract: A technique is provided for controlling fluid flow characteristics in a nozzle assembly. An outwardly opening poppet is movably disposed in an axial conduit to control fluid flow through a forward portion of the axial conduit. A fluid conduit is coupled to the forward portion at an angle configured to provide a desired degree of fluid swirl through the forward portion. The outwardly opening nozzle assembly produces a spray having geometrical characteristics correlated to the desired degree of fluid swirl.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2001Date of Patent: June 15, 2004Assignee: Bombardier Motor Corporation of AmericaInventor: Scott E. Patent number: 6715464Abstract: A fuel injection device operating on the solid-state energy storage principle and configured as a reciprocating plunger pump having a delivery plunger element, the delivery plunger element being moved from its starting position in the direction of a pressure chamber, the delivery plunger element storing kinetic energy during a near zero-resistance acceleration phase, this kinetic energy being abruptly transmitted by a impulse movement to the fuel present in the pressure chamber so that a pressure impulse is generated for ejaculating fuel through an injector means, a second pressure chamber being arranged on the side of the delivery plunger element opposite the first pressure chamber such that kinetic energy absorbed on return movement of the delivery plunger element to its starting position is transmitted to fuel present in the second pressure chamber.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1998Date of Patent: April 6, 2004Assignee: Bombardier Motor Corporation of AmericaInventor: Wolfgang Heimberg

Patent number: 6702629Abstract: A watercraft, equipped with a jet drive power source, with improved stability is disclosed. The jet drive power source is configured to produce power along a predetermined direction and form a drive line based upon the predetermined direction. The drive line bisects a plane of the keel at a predetermined angle that is less than about 4 degrees. The drive shaft and the output shaft are not substantially parallel.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2002Date of Patent: March 9, 2004Assignee: Bombardier Motor Corporation of AmericaInventor: Rick Adamczyk

Patent number: 6695659Abstract: An oil system for a two-stroke outboard marine engine is disclosed. The oil system includes an oil system housing having an inlet, an outlet, and an oil return. The housing includes an oil filter base to receive a replaceable oil filter thereon. The oil is routed in a closed loop that includes an oil reservoir, the inlet to the oil system housing, through the replaceable oil filter, and is then returned to the oil reservoir. Periodically, a solenoid opens the closed loop system to divert oil to the two-stroke engine, at which time a remote vent valve is activated to allow air to enter the oil reservoir to displace the dispensed oil.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2002Date of Patent: February 24, 2004Assignee: Bombardier Motor Corporation of AmericaInventors: Richard P. Kolb, David J. Hartke

Publication number: 20040031430Abstract: Combined herein are the benefits of a flat deck pontoon boat and the speed and versatility of a jet propelled watercraft. The watercraft is equipped with a propulsion source sufficient to move the watercraft at a substantial speed through the water. The seating layout on the deck provides the amenities of an extremely comfortable watercraft capable of seating multiple passengers while providing sufficient storage space for all necessary items for such a voyage. The watercraft is equipped with a substantially flat deck area with an upper bow deck and a lowered recess area which, when filled with water, provides cooling and amusement for the passengers. The watercraft is equipped with a privacy compartment or toilet, a kitchen area, and a double driver seat, which can be rotated from a relaxing position to a driving position. A rear sundeck can be converted into upright seats. Under the kitchen area an ice chest or some other item can be stowed.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 14, 2003Publication date: February 19, 2004Applicant: Bombardier Motor Corporation of AmericaInventors: Martin Aube, David Kalhok, Alain Rheault, Rick Adamczyk

Patent number: 6682380Abstract: The present invention, in one aspect, is a cooling system for a marine engine and includes cylinder cooling jackets, cylinder head cooling jackets, and thermostatic and pressure controls which facilitate safely operating the engine with low water flow rates. In one specific embodiment, the cooling system is employed in a marine engine including a V-type cylinder block with two cylinder banks and a valley between the banks. Each cylinder bank includes a plurality of cylinder bores (e.g., each cylinder bank includes three cylinder bores in a six cylinder engine), and respective exhaust ducts extend from and are in flow communication with each cylinder bore. Respective coolant flow paths extend from the valley to a section of each cylinder bore water jacket adjacent each cylinder exhaust duct. Specifically, water is provided from the valley to adjacent each exhaust duct in the cylinder banks. Each cylinder bore water jacket includes an outlet at an upper portion of each said cylinder bank.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2000Date of Patent: January 27, 2004Assignee: Bombardier Motor Corporation of AmericaInventors: Gregory D.
