    Abstract: The present invention provides a child seat (1) comprising a seat back (3), a headrest (4) which is moveable relative to the seat back (3), and a removable harness which may be installed for use in securing an occupant to the seat (1), wherein the headrest (4) is coupled to the seat back (3) such that the headrest (4) may undergo a first extent of movement relative to the seat back (3) when the harness is installed and may only undergo a second further extent of movement relative to the seat back (3) when the harness is removed. In this regard, only when the harness is removed from an operative position, namely one where it is installed such that it can be used to restrain a child, can the headrest (4) undergo its second further extent of movement relative to the seat back (3). This ensures that the headrest (4) is not inappropriately positioned for the group of child being restrained thereby.

    Abstract: A deformable, polypropylene-moulding lining (11), is provided in a head rest. It has a crosspiece (12), clipped (14) to the head support (5) and right and left deformable wings (15, 16). These are longer than the support wings (5, 6) of the head part (4), extending past distal edges (17) of the support wings. The deformable wings are spaced inwards from the support wings, with voids (18) defined between them. The deformable wings are divided into two in their forwards extent by a living hinge (19) into a front portion (20) and a rear portion (21). The living hinge is positioned just inside the distal edges of the shell wings. The injection moulded lining has its own foam materiel lining (22), the whole being covered with upholstery (23). The result of the arrangement is that if an occupant's head H impacts the lining in side impact of the vehicle equipped with the seat, the relevant lining wing will be pressed against the shell wing.

    Abstract: A base (1) for a child safety seat to be used with an adult seat in a vehicle equipped with ISOFIX loops comprises an upper moulding (2) and a lower moulding (3) screwed and clipped together. The upper moulding comprises a pair of front humps (8) and a pair of rear humps (9) with a flat portion (10) between the pairs. The humps have moulded recesses (11) for the front and rear anchor bars (51, 52) of a conventional infant carrier (53). Below release button (61) the base has formation (71) for pivotal connection of foot prop (72) is clipped up under the base, anti-rebound flap (38) is folded against the prop and ISOFIX latches (34) are pivoted in towards the front of the base. For use, ISOFIX latches (34) are turned backwards, anti-rebound member (38) is swung around from below to above the base and foot prop (72) is extended down to abut the floor. To fit infant carrier (53), its anchor bars (51, 52) are engaged in recesses (11) and the infant carrier is pushed down to push hooks (45) away.

    Abstract: A tension indicator comprises a housing (1) mountable on a strap S which passes through mouths (5) and (6) of the housing. Within the housing, a barrel (11) is rotatably mounted upon a transverse axis (A). The barrel has a cross-passage (12) for strap (S). Towards its ends barrel (11) has discs (14), carrying slot (15) defining formations (16). The slots engage springs (21). The arrangement is such that in the relaxed state of the springs, barrel passage (12) is out of alignment with mouths (5) and (6), so that a strap (S) passing through the tension indictor is deflected to a lazy Z path. The housing has a window (23), through which barrel (11) can be seen. When springs (21) are relaxed, a “SLACK” portion (24) of barrel (11) can be seen through window (23). When strap (S) is tensioned it is straightened by abutting on ends (25) of passage (12). A different “TENSIONED” portion (26) of barrel (11) now becomes visible in window (23).

    Abstract: A child safety seat for use in a vehicle has a seat body and a harness including a pair of shoulder straps which extend through respective slots in the seat back to a mechanism for adjusting the length of the shoulder straps. The height at which the shoulder straps project from the seat back can be varied by threading them through different slots. A pad is slidably mounted on each shoulder strap and has a cover formed of high friction material on the side thereof facing the child occupant's body. A tether strap has one end attached to each pad and projects through the same slot in the seat back as the corresponding shoulder strap for limiting movement of the corresponding chest pad along the shoulder strap to a predetermined limit distance away from the seat back. Such limit distance increases as the height at which the shoulder straps project from the seat back is increased.
